I only have my mom, and she is not available all the time and can be unreliable. I need to find a babysitter. How do you go about finding a stranger that you can trust with your baby?

Our parents. I vastly prefer my mom and step-dad, but they spend 1/2 the year in Florida, so it defaults to my ILs for most of that time. My dad is also local, but he's not always comfortable watching the 2 kids alone.

1. My parents (both together or just my mom. My dad can do one kiddo, but not both).
2. My cousin, who is studying to be a teacher
3. A rotating door of current and former employees. I run a business that employs mostly high school and college students.
In reality, my parents cover 95% of childcare, so babysitting by others is rare.

daytime- my parents
nighttime- i have 4 nursing students from the local college who i rotate calling. if they are all busy and it's something i can't reschedule (work event vs. date night) then i will ask my parents, but i feel bad making them sit when DS will just be asleep.

Our awesome babysitter who we found over 2 years ago when LO was 4 months old. She's a nurse and super sweet. She's hard to book though cause of her crazy schedule. We have a backup sitter too, who we like as well. Our parents live far away, so they do watch him but usually for a weekend so we can get away.

A college student we met when she was instructing the older kids' class when DS took swim lessons over a year ago. She is wonderful with him, and I love that she is up-to-date with her first aid. It's hard to book her in the summer though, because she goes to her family cabin a lot on the weekends, and is highly in demand as a lifeguard during the week.
ETA: our family isn't local, but my parents will babysit when we or they visit.
