I had mastitis in my left breast a week ago. Then I found a painless lump in that breast that won't go away, so I have an OB appointment on Monday to get it looked at. (Super freaked out about it). NOW, I have a very painful area on my right breast. SUPER painful. I'm guessing it's a clogged duct (no fever), but I can't feel a lump! It's just a super sore area on the top of my right breast. Hurts to even kind of touch it. I've been using a heating pad, nursing, dangle feeding, pumping, massaging.... no luck. I just don't get it. Why am I having so many problems with pain/mastitis/clogged ducts? Ugh.

Oh man. So sorry! Do you think you need bigger flanges on your pump? I was getting a lot of clogged ducts when DS was a newborn. I was pumping a lot to let DH help and as soon as I bought bigger flanges they stopped. Still get them occasionally but not as much. Hugs! Clog ducts suck!

I get those ocassionally too
they hurt so much. I usually just use hot compresses and take ibuprofen for the pain. Good luck and hope you feel better soon!!

Are you taking lecithin? If not, I would look into it.

Ugh so sorry mama! I had a lot of issues til 8 weeks then it clicked somehow. I have lots of clogged ducts and lecithin has worked wonders for me!

Yes, just like @MamaJ: said, I would look into the flanges...improper flange size can certainly cause all the things you are describing and hopefully it is as simple as that, with an easy fix!
I'm assuming you have a PISA? I would call Medela and talk to them about the flanges. When I needed smaller ones they sent me a set free that arrived on my doorstep the very next day! They can also help you trouble shoot a little. BTW, I initially had to go up a size in flanges, then to the normal size that comes with the pump and eventually down to the smaller size (which you can't really find in stores) as our breastfeeding journey progressed.

@Pepper: my dh grabbed it at whole foods. There's a powder version you could sprinkle on food or in a drink but I do the pills - they're large but like a gel cap (versus a harder pill) so it doesn't bother me.

I have issues when I wear bras that are too tight and sometimes if I sleep on m stomach.

My clogged duct was from a too tight/underwire bra. No fun at all.
