How will your child care situation change, if at all, with more than 1?
Currently M is in daycare 5 days a week. We thought with 2, possibly my husband watches them 1 day a week, maybe ILs 1 day a week. That way we'll only be paying for 3 days a week. And possibly if I could get away with working from home 1 day taking it down to 2 days a week of day care?

It will be the same for us. Baby 2 will start daycare around 12-14 weeks and will go 5 days a week.

If we decide to have another, there's no way I'll be going back to work. I seriously don't know how anyone has more than one kid, at this point, and still works.

Different: DD was at a daycare center 5 days/week. After DS we are using a private sitter for both. We transitioned DD one month before DS started so 1) if there were problems with the transition I would be available since I was on maternity leave and 2) she could get some 1 on 1 time with the sitter before DS started.

I don't think I'll go back to work after 2...at least not initially.

I will most likely be a SAHM anyway, in which case, no childcare won't change. But if we went the daycare route, with just one it was be almost my salary. With 2 it would not make financial sense at all.

Both will be in daycare 5 days a week but I will try and work less hours from the office during the week.

I'm not sure how we'll swing this. We originally discussed me staying home when #2 comes along, but DH didn't get the raise we expected with his promotion and I'm not sure we could afford for me to stay home... or afford a 2nd in daycare... so any family additions are on hold.

Unless I get a really awesome job where I'm making more than I currently make, more than likely I'll be staying at home once we have 2. Daycare for 2 would be equal to my salary and it just wouldn't make any sense. I marvel at how people are able to do it with both people working full-time also.

My husband loves the structure and curriculm of daycare, so there is no way he wouldn't have them in daycare.

@bree72: are you talking financially? I did the math and I will still be making significantly more even after 2 in day care FT. I was hoping it will be the other way so I can push to SAH.

@regberadaisy: Do you get a discount at your daycare for more than 1 child? Ours provides a discount, I can't remember but I think it's 15% off the lower tuition.

I think hiring a nanny for both would be cheaper than sending both to daycare full time, but Wagon Jr. won't be eligible for (free) public preschool until NEXT fall, and I would not want him to be home all day every day after being in a structured preschool environment for the past 1.5 years. He would be so bored!! And I want LMW to also experience the preschool environment. It's expensive, but me working almost full time and sending both to daycare is still a better financial decision for us (my pay covers their daycare plus several hundred a month). Plus I prefer being a WOHM.

We'll get a nanny when we have #2. It's only a few hundred more than infant care for one.

@regberadaisy: I'm talking in general. I feel like I never get anything done at home with one. It's like, get home at 5, and don't stop moving until 9pm when I pass out. Then up, back to work, and repeat. Running errands takes forever now with one, so I can't imagine trying to run a household, two kids, and have a job at the same time. At least for the first few years. After they got a bit older and were in preschool, I can see working with more than one.
@oliviaoblivia: I think this would be the only other option than having 2 in daycare. Having someone who can care for my kids, and do a bit of light cleaning, grocery shopping, etc.

@mrs. wagon: I think a nanny would be a cheaper for us if I was to keep working but I feel the same way that you do. My son is such a social butterfly and loves daycare so much that I don't think he would like being at home without any other kids to play with. I don't have any friends or family with small kids that live nearby so he wouldn't have any kind of socialization.

@mrs. wagon: This is us as well. I want to work and my income would still be more than the cost of daycare FT for two. We might have to look at a cheaper center though.
