@Mamaof2: They could just learn to sign their name?

Also, I print my signature, just quickly. And I even learned cursive.

No, I actually don't know how to write cursive. I can write my name, my parents name ( ) and all lowercase letters. As far as uppercase? Nope. I only know a handful.

My teacher in that grade was one that seemed to stick with those who weren't learning as fast, so if you understood all of the lowercase but someone in the class was having trouble with it, we kept going over and over the same thing to help them learn, which kept the rest of us from moving forward.

And guess what? I've never had to write a paper in cursive and see no need to learn it now! The only thing I will say is that I do struggle with reading cursive if someone happens to send me something handwritten in it.

I remember taking the GMAT, I think, at one of those computerized testing centers and I had to copy an entire paragraph in cursive that they would use later as a way to make sure I was who I said I was if it was ever called into question. I was taught cursive in school but didn't use it much. It took everything I had to remember how to write certain letters in cursive. I was almost embarrassed but the testing person said it happened all the time.

If they take away teaching cursive, I don't think it would bother me too much but for the love of all things holy, let's keep teaching spelling!!!! I can't believe how illiterate people sound/look sometimes based on how they write.
