DH and I only need (very) part time child care, which is rare to find around here. We got some great references from friends on a woman who lives nearby, has a couple of kids of her own, and only keeps one or two other children, which would include our LO. We met her, liked her a lot, and were really comfortable with her answers to all our questions. However... She friended us on Facebook and we have noticed she is ALWAYS on there. I mean like, all day long she posts things on her wall, in groups, everywhere. Instagram, games, questions on groups, you name it. I can't help but wonder... who is watching the kids? Would this bother you? It bothers me enough that I'm starting to look at other child care providers.

I'm not sure how much time babies take up during the day yet so no idea how much free time she might have to do this... but I would definitely question her professionalism. I would have never updated my facebook, twitter, anything public during work time which indicates to my boss/colleagues that I'm not working when I should be.

My SIL is a SAHM with 5 kids (two that arent' in school yet - one is still a baby) and she is ALWAYS on facebook. She is constantly updating her status, commenting, uploading pictures, you name it. When I spent the weekend with her last summer at the shore I don't think she looked at her kids for more than about 10 seconds at a time because she was staring at her phone all day and night!

It would concern me, yes. I'm a SAHM and the only times I really get to be online are when LO is taking a nap. I would definitely wonder how much she is neglecting looking after the children to be able to do that.

It also scares me now that I'm looking for someone else - if she hadn't added us as friends, we never would've known! Its a whole new element that I never thought of when we were first looking.

Almost every SAHM I know from HS posts on Facebook many, many times a day. I don't have Instagram or Twitter, so have no idea what their activity might be like there....
I think it might be somewhat normal, since you can post from a smartphone within seconds.

When DH watches LO he's on his phone sometimes. like Anagram said it takes seconds to post something. I'm not sure what I would do in your situation though.

If I was paying someone to watch my kid, I would not want them playing on their phone all the time. The other thing I would see, is, does she let them watch tv? Part of the reason I love daycare, besides the structure and curriculum is that there are no TVs.

I'm about to email or call her and tell her we won't be needing her any longer. I peeked over at Facebook and she's been on non-stop since 6:00 a.m. I just can't feel comfortable our LO will be getting enough attention from her if she's focused on leveling up on Candy Crush for 4 hours straight. Should I tell her exactly why or just be vague and tell her circumstances changed? I hate hurting people's feelings.

If it was just her and her kids it wouldn't seem that weird... but how is she taking care of 4-5 kids and being THAT active on FB? It's the games that get me... I mean it takes 3 seconds to post a photo or a status update from a phone, but how does she have time to play games!?
If you do decide not to go with her and she asked why, make sure you tell her. She probably doesn't realize this is hurting her credibility.

I don't know if I'd tell her why. If you do, she might not friend any future mom's, preventing others from finding out what you did!

I also think its a red flag just in the sense that you are paying her to have her priority be your child ( and the other children), and also I would be concerned of her sharing photos of your kid or things about them on social media.
