After picking DS up from daycare, I noticed he was wearing the same pull-up I had put him in that morning (he uses a different brand at daycare.) I thought it was disconcerting because it was really really heavy with pee which must have been uncomfortable and that's 8 hours in the same pull up. We've never had an issue like this before. Would you say something or just let it go unless it happens again?

Definitely say something. I would approach it as a question, rather than critically - "hey, I noticed kiddo was wearing the same pullup from the morning and it was really full. Is there a reason why he wasn't changed." Good luck!

This - to me - would be a major breakdown in routine, and I'd actually say something to the teacher and escalate it to the director. Maybe this is because my kids have sensitive skin and get diaper rashes easily.

@erinbaderin: I love this wording, but I had brought a pack with me (a brand we've never used before) that day.
I might say "I noticed that DS was wearing the same pull up from the morning, was there an issue with his new pull ups?"

I would say, "I wanted to bring to your attention that it appeared his pull-up wasn't changed yesterday." Then leave it out there for them to respond. A good daycare will apologize and tell you the plan to make sure it doesn't happen again, then follow up later in the week.
I know that can feel uncomfortable, but I think it's the best way. For me, less is better to get the conversation going.

@crazydoglady: I think all the comments above are on the right track. Just to throw something else out there since you LO is in pull-ups, not diapers, could they have been dry most of the day and then peed a lot? Unlikely, but just another scenario.
I’m actually concerned that preschool will change my almost potty trained son’s clean pull up every two hours throughout the day due to diaper change policies. I hope not since we’re trying to break the pull up habit but I haven’t asked.

@shabang: My dd would hold her pee for like six + hours when she was potty trained... meaning if this were her, it's entirely possible that it all came out at once and not that long before pick up. I know this isn't the case with all kids but that's why, given that it's not a common occurrence, I wouldn't escalate it right away. Just my two cents.

So, I just talked to daycare and she seemed apologetic and said that it must have just been an accidental oversight. I explained that I wasn't upset and he didn't have diaper rash, but he seemed really uncomfortable and it's just not ideal. She said she would look into things to make sure it didn't happen again. It was awkward, but I am glad I said something.

@2littlepumpkins: Yep, you know your kid. If this were mine, and she'd been in a wet diaper for hours, she'd already have a rash. But if she'd been dry all day and then peed a ton, no rash. So, I'd proceed accordingly.
We talk to our director almost daily, so maybe escalating sounded like too much, but this would just be something I would tell her when she asks how potty training is going (as she frequently does).

Definitely say something. We do cloth diapers so I notice each day if she's short a dirty diaper and I know they missed a change. DD has sensitive skin and will get a rash if not changed enough. I don't beat around the bush and speak up immediately.

@crazydoglady: Yeah we potty trained at 2.5+ so this was like day 1.
Glad you talked to them and it sounds like you found a resolution! Sorry he was uncomfortable. I don't know how old your lo is but another thing we have had to do in various circumstances is encourage our dd to speak up when she needs something like to use the bathroom. She never wants to interrupt/ask for things. I don't know, that may be beyond where he is age-wise but something to keep in mind. 
@shabang: Sounds like your director is also very involved so I don't know that I'd call that really escalating anyway tbh. We started center care a few months post-potty training (which we did in a few days really.) So for us it was a matter of getting lo to speak up when she needed to go, that sort of thing.

I'm a wimp non-confrontationalist so I'd say, "Oh here's an extra pull-up if you need it! I noticed he was in the same one for a while yesterday."

Yeah, this would upset me. My state (Massachusetts) has a regulation that says each child’s diaper must be changed on a regular basis throughout the day and when wet or soiled, so our center sends home a sheet with when they changed diapers (or tried to pee on the potty), as well as if it was pee or a bowel movement.

Definitely say something. Even if it was an oversight and completely unintentional it’s stull not acceptable. LO gets changed every 2-3 hours even if his diaper is dry.

@raspberries: Yeah, same here. Ours have to be changed every 2 hours, so we can a form every day with his changes, whether he was wet, dry, or pooped, etc. They'll even put a note that if he was sleeping through the 2-hour time limit so we know when he wasn't changed!
@2littlepumpkins: This was totally my youngest. When we started potty training, he'd try to hold it ALL DAY at daycare and then have a huge accident or pee a gallon into a pull-up or diaper, so I could totally see this happening!

@2littlepumpkins: DS will be 3 in a month, but he is extremely speech delayed, so that's not an option. I can still talk to him about patting his diaper and saying "pee pee" and "poo poo."
