Just curious as to whether 2.5-3 years was a really tough time for anyone else? Ever since LO turned 2.5 it's like a switch flipped and he is extremely sensitive, emotional, tantrums over the slightest thing, has difficulty listening...not all the time, but a lot of the time. He's had two big transitions (paci weaning and potty training), but both of those things were at the end of April, so it's been a while. Just looking for commiseration 
Also, curious as to whether if this was the case, if things got better after they turned 3??

I would say 2.5 to 3.5 is hard. With 3 being the most difficult. That has been the case in my two at least, my 19 month old has been giving me a run for my money recently though....

DS1 has been super emotional and whiny the past couple of months. It's exhausting. I don't want to wake up, I don't want to go to sleep, I don't want to go to school, I don't want to go home,etc.

I thought 2.5 was fun and just when I was thinking we dodged a bullet, she turned into a threenager just as she turned 3.
I honestly think this stage is a form of birth control

We're a little early. 26 months and in the last week or two, there's a monster who's replaced my sweet loving baby! We're really struggling to find compassion right now.

The month before LO turned 3 was kinda rough with tantrums, moodiness and whining but it got better about 2 months into 3!

@MamaBehr: yup yup. Twos ain't got nothing on 3s. Tantrums are fierce. It's a constant negotiation battle zone over here! But the fun sweet moments are also super awesome

I'm bracing myself for 3, everyone says it's worse! Ds and his "no"s and overall stubbornness are def wearing my patience thin on the daily esp while trying to nurse a nb every 2-3 hours!

@DillonLion: for us, 1.5-2 was tough, but 2-2.5 was great. So I was hoping that this awful stage is really the threenager stage (aka the time right before he turns 3), but seems like that might not be the case!

2.5-3.2 was really hard. But we also had a new baby right at age 2.5 It started getting better at 3.2.....for now....

@hilsy85: Right after 3 is when my son really started playing independently for long periods of time and able to reason with him about many things. He gave up his nap a few months before turning 3 and that was really, really rough. It's gotten better though!

They say terrible 2's but then they say 3 is bad which I agree because we are there and they get smarter and savy-er and push boundaries more. We are almost at the end of 3 but my SIL told me 4 is worse! Blah!

Yeah. It's a tough age. But it comes and goes, we get a few weeks of absolute awfulness and then a few weeks of DS being totally amazing... maybe it's like wonder weeks, I don't know.

You all are scaring me! DD is 2.5 and her tantrums are awful! And she's become so much more defiant. She just became a big sister so that could be a part of it but man, she's can drive me nutty! I was really really hoping 3 would be better!

N has been terrible! As I type this I have N in a Tula passed out because he has been a terror all day and I don't want him to wake up his brother. The last few months have been brutal! I thought it was just us moving but maybe not. I am over here with my fingers crossed that three gets so much better. I love this kid but woah! I can't handle the crazy all the time. (at least we are visiting grandma and grandpa so they can diffuse some of the crazy).

It's been sort of tough - there's definitely tantrums and plenty of defiance. But my son was way worse than my daughter. He is still a very emotional person at 6 years old and I'm realizing it's just who he is.

I'm terrified as DD will turn 2.5 just as baby #2 arrives! Our mommy discipline class instructor says the 1/2 year points are generally points of "disequilibrium" and makes you want to tear your hair out. 18 months started a very rough period, so I'm so scared of what's to come at 2.5!

@hilsy85: we had the same experience of 1.5-2 being tough, 2-2.5 being easier, and 2.5-almost 3 getting more difficult. Hoping lo just hit the threenager stage a little early and wondering how it'll be when lo2 is here!

So far, 2.5 was the peak rough time with my oldest DD. 3 has been easier.

OMG, I was just coming here to post the same thing. 2.5 just flipped a switch. Nearly every interaction with D consists of whining. And God forbid we dare say no to something - big fat crying screaming fit. And I've also heard the Threenager years are so much worse. Not excited at all about that.

Seriously, guys....I am at my wits' end. I locked myself in my room to cry this morning because I am so burned out on LO's tantrums and whining and defiance and general unpleasantness. It seems like everything is a 3 ring circus of negotiation and crying--literally, getting dressed takes like a half hour, with crying and tantruming and running away from me. Almost every day (every day this week). I am LOSING IT.
//end vent. Sorry for the livejournal-esqu post!! It is good to hear that I am at least not alone...

Ugh. we are right around the corner from this and I'm already seeing little signs. He's already got a huge mommy preference and I'm worried it will get worse. He flips out about the weirdest, smallest stuff!
Also, you are definitely not alone. Although I'm not there yet, one of my best friends has gone through it twice now and she would text me from her bathroom saying the exact same things you are.

i find 1.5-3 the hardest.... my oldest just turned 3 at the end of may and like a switch everything changed and it's SO GREAT. so, so great. hoping for the best for you, too!

Yes! My son turns 3 in October, and he's been very challenging since he turned 2.5. LO#2 is due in November, so I've been hoping we might get lucky and get the worst of it out of the way now!

@hilsy85: HUGS. I think it's safe to say that is pretty normal. It instantly made me think of the scene for SATC Movie where Charlotte locks herself in the pantry. I tell DH there's a reason why so many toddlers have to start Preschool at this age/phase. Mommy needs a break!

We are definitely in a challenging stage. But it's more her doing things like running away from me and playing up because she thinks it's hilariously funny. When T was born, DH and A hung out in the hospital both days afterwards and I had to send them off on a walk so I could have a cry because I really couldn't handle her high energy behaviour. Then leaving the hospital was the same, A having a meltdown, both of us crying, me because I just could not handle my own kid and felt terrible about it. I find TV, being cooped up in the house, skipping naps and less attention from me all make it worse. All things that go hand in hand with a new baby!
I'm sorry that you're having such a hard time. It's SO hard. It feels like you're just giving absolutely everything of yourself and these little terrorists are just demanding even more.
