Halp!
My 6 month old EBF son seems to be having difficulty nursing for more than 7-8 minutes when he used to go 10-15 each side. He is grunting and groaning and getting frustrated, pulling off the boob. He strains a lot too. We introduced solids consistently about 6 weeks ago, fruits, veggies, oats, and he has seemingly done great with everything. Poop is normal (more solid I would say) and no sign of reflux- he has never spit up. He's not a fan of the bottle but will take it sometimes.
Is it teething? Is it normal to only nurse this briefly? I do not feel close to empty. Is he weaning himself?

My LO is a really distracted nurser these days- like if big sister is in the room she will nurse for like 5 minutes before wanting to move on. If I go into my room alone with her she will nurse longer. I've been trying to either go into the quiet room when I can, or just offering more often. She was also dealing with some pretty bad constipation for a week so I know that was part of it but doesn't sound like that's an issue for your LO. Does it matter where you are when you nurse? I'd just keep offering maybe.

@Foodnerd81: That's a great point, he is SO distracted these days. And super handsy. Maybe I will try to nurse in his glider in his quiet nursery. Though it's so hot in there these days!

We just went through this recently with my 8 month old. He was eating every 2 hours but after this, he was happier eating closer to every 2.5-3 hours. I think either the addition of table food, they are just fuller for longer. We also have to nurse in a quiet room. DH and I can't talk while he's nursing bc he just can't stay focused haha. Also with the food, how much are you offering? Do you offer before or after nursing? Nursing should still be the primary source of nutrition and we found that if we offered food before nursing, he would never nurse as much.

@peaches1038: Good point. I nurse about every 3, and offer food an hour after that. It definitely does seem like he's not that hungry but he's so used to nursing maybe that he feels like he should eat, isn't hungry, then just gets grumpy about it! We also can't be loud when feeding him either...

Update: I really think he just wasn't hungry. I also turned him away from me a little, to get pressure off his belly and for some reason that helped! All good here for now!!
