I personally think it's ok to hold him or put him in a carrier for that last nap. Around 5-7 months they usually consolidate naps anyway, so you may find that he drops it soon anyway! You also may find that as his naps in the crib lengthen, he doesn't need that last nap.

We have this problem too. LO really needs 4 naps because she usually wakes up between 4 and 5pm from her 3rd nap and bedtime is 830. She has a hard time staying up more than 1.5 hrs and is always rubbing her eyes and so sleepy. Usually we try to get her down around 6 or 630 for a quick catnap until 7 or 730, but even though she is ALWAYS tired/rubbing her eyes before we try (like for all naps) this is the one she fights the hardest. I don't know why. For us, we rock her to sleep then put her in her bed for all sleep, but this nap I will sometimes just hold her the whole time if she is restless. And if she just refuses we'll stick her in the swing sometimes. She rarely falls asleep in there but she'll sort of chill for 30 min or so and I feel like its restful even if it isn't sleep bc she isn't AS cranky by bedtime as she is when we don't do the swing.
