I would probably never spend more than 50$ on a toy - I just don't think that it would be worth it. My daughter has a bunch of less expensive building blocks that she uses frequently, so it just wouldn't make sense for us. We really like the big cardboard blocks from melissa and doug - those get heavily used.

DS plays with magna tiles daily multiple times a day. We were gifted some for his 2nd bday and Dh just used an Amazon gc to buy him another 100 piece set because DS loves them so much and Dh likes building things w him too! Def worth it.

I am going to go with not worth the price. The set we have cost $75 for 30 pieces and it is very limiting as to what you can actually build. We do lots of cubes and pyramids.

@Raindrop: Yeah, we've been very happy with them. Our science museum also has the same set so I figure they must be pretty durable! We have the main set (100 pieces or so?) and then a couple of expansion packs they got as gifts - doors and windows, and trains or something. Both are from different manufacturers. I think once my second starts getting into them, we will need to buy another full set since we already run out of pieces as it is.

To those who have them, what age would you recommend them for? I'm consider asking my dad to chip in for some for LO's 2nd birthday in the fall, is that too young?

*bumping* We did it... we bought picasso tiles last night! It's not manga tiles but hubs said if LO really likes them we will shell out for manga tiles later... since picasso tiles claim to work with them... So it would be like having two sets if LO ends up liking them and we can give a good comparison later on if someone ask.
