@T.H.O.U.: I asked my doctor if I should get like a doctor's note to fly and he told me I won't need one. My husband will make sure I get on my flight anyway lol.

Like a copy of all my medical records?

  2. T.H.O.U.

    wonderful clementine / 24134 posts

@pui: Not all of your medical records but my OB printed out a 4-5 page sheet of my pregnancy history. That way if I have to go to a hospital or something they have record of what has happened so far. It can help them so that if you have swelling, they can see what your historical blood pressure was for example.

@swurlygurl: Oh no! I feel your pain. My ring is also getting a little tight lately. I literally had little to no swelling with my daughter, so this is new to me! I wore my ring the whole time without an issue, but I'm betting it helped that I was due in January. Looks like I may be having a pinky ring soon as well!

@pui: How fun! Hope you have a good trip!

@swurlygurl: oh no! Your poor fingers.

I had my glucose test this morning. My doc decided to do away completely with the one hour test since so many people were failing it I guess. So everyone does a 2 hour test with 8 hours of fasting before. So not fun!

I earned a free breakfast sandwich at Panera bread so my plan was to go there afterwards to eat breakfast. I got there at 10:35 and they stop serving breakfast at 10:30! I actually cried a little! OMG! I'm blaming pregnancy hormones on that one. I ended up going somewhere else for breakfast. The girl that worked there felt so bad for me. Luckily she didn't see me cry and I held it together until I got to my car. I feel so silly now about it all.

@pui: So jealous, have a fantastic time!

@mrskc: Ack, I had no idea that so many people fail the 1hr, I hope I don't! And I totally understand the breakfast breakdown, it happens to all of us at one point or another. It was definitely the hormones!

  6. chibee

@mrskc: Yep, I'd cry. I wouldn't even blame that on my pregnancy hormone, that would just make me cry anyway.

    - Hire a doula (meeting next week with one I think I like)
    - Sign up for Infant CPR & Hospital tour
    - Buy the necessities after my shower (June 29th)

@Mrs.Someone: re finding a pediatrician. We asked our friends who they used and also looked at how close they were to our house (we didn't want to drive across town every time we needed to go to the doc). There was one practice that seemed to be really popular among our friends so I called them up and scheduled a meeting with them. I met with one of the pediatricians and she asked us questions and answered questions for us. And that was that! It was a lot simpler than I thought it would me. I stressed about it and put it off to the last minute.

@msmug: The process probably differs between insurance plans but here is what I had to do: I had to get a prescription from my Dr. Then find an in network medical supply company and contact them. I gave them my insurance information and they gave me a list of pumps that will be covered. I haven't picked which pump I want yet, but when I do I just let the med supply company know and they will process my order. They actually won't process the order until much closer to my due date so I am taking my time deciding.

    Hope that helps

@msmug: I got a pump through insurance! My doctor didn't need to do anything, I just called insurance and asked how it worked. They gave me a list of places to go, so I walked into one and they gave me the options. It took 2 weeks to get, then they bill insurance (and send me a bill for the remainder, if anything). Every insurance company is different though.

    pomelo / 5228 posts

@mrskc: Thanks for the info! Only one of our friends has a doctor nearby (which they love), but I'm hesitant to go to them because it sounds like their doctor really freaked them out about visitors having vaccines and making sure people who were near their baby are healthy (which they should be, but this couple was really nervous about it). Did the pediatrician charge you for the initial meeting?

We just bought a new house and are doing renos in it before moving in so we are waiting to buy most of our baby stuff so we don't have to store/pack and move a bunch of extra stuff. So my to do list includes renos, packing/moving to a new house/unpacking, and then shopping for all the baby stuff we need. I also have a huge work project I have been working on for the last 2 months that is happening on monday.

And when I say we need to buy baby stuff I mean pretty much everything! All we have actually bought so far is our cloth diapers, about 10-15 new outfits in NB and 3m sizes, and a used change table. We've got a brand new car seat coming from his aunt that she bought and didn't need, and some hand me down baby clothes from a friend. We are not ready for this baby to come yet lol.

@msmug: Totally depends on your insurance. Mine you just buy the pump and send in your receipt. Definitely call them and figure out what the procedure is.

If this pregnancy is your first, are you celebrating this mother's day? I had a few people tell me happy first mother's day but I don't really feel entitled yet. I don't think we will do anything differently than we did last year.

    cherry / 240 posts

@mrs. 64: We're not doing anything this year. We lost our baby last year on May 15th at 21 weeks and I had a few people wish me happy mother's day just days before. Next year when she's in my arms we will celebrate!

@kodybear: once BiL is out we can start working on nursery. Got some paint samples up. But before all that M's big girl bed needs to be finished first so we can move her. I'm super excited!!!!

I want to get dd2 a new coming home outfit but besides that nothing pressing.
    Pre register online for hospital
    get my breast pump

@msmug: call your insurance and they will let you know.
For mine I have a prescription from my OB. I can get free rental of hospital grade, purchase of any electric pump or a manual. At approved medical suppliers.

@mrskc: I'm so so sad we no longer can afford a family session when dd2 arrives. .

Hi everyone! I read everything but its difficult to reply on my phone...so I apologise that I'm not responding to all. I have a feeling this will be long....

@mrs. 64: regarding placenta placement-I just find out at my last appointment 3 weeks ago that I have an anterior placenta so it's possible they haven't said anything since I assume there's no danger to having it...??? Since that appointment I've started to feel more movement but DH has only felt movement twice.

i only found out bc I had an ultrasound bc I had had some brown spotting that went away after a few days. Everything looked fine but I found out about the placenta and that he was/maybe still is breech.

My shower is early in June so I'll be 30 weeks.

@msmug: re: breast pumps...like everyone else has said, it probably depends on your insurance but mine gave me the number to a medical supply company that participates. They got a prescription directly from my doctor and told me the three models/brands I could get. I chose and got it in the mail like a few days later..super easy!

@Mrs.Someone: no idea how one goes about finding a pediatrician....we have to find one too. I was going to ask my OB for suggestions!

    Our to do list:
    Finish nursery
Buy anything we need that we don't get at the shower
Attend baby class and labor class
I'm sure there's more I'm not thinking about!

So... how are everyone's names coming along? We had a list of about 5-10 and had narrowed it down to about 3 but had a pretty strong front runner a couple weeks ago. (We aren't telling the name) BUT, we found out that some close friends, who are due around the same time we are, are using our front runner name!!!!! Gaaaah!! I admit I cried I'm better now and we've decided to go with another name on our list that I am starting to like more but I admit I was pretty bummed for a few days.

Hope everyone has a great rest of their weekend/Mother's Day!

My to do list is stressing me out since the number one thing is find a house to buy. Lol, I know that babies don't need that much space, but I will feel so much better if we can find a bigger house and buy it before LO arrives. We rent a house now but it only has 1 bedroom, I would really love to be able to decorate a nursery

Is anyone else still struggling with names? We are totally stuck. My husband has actually asked if we can stop talking about names for a few weeks because we just can't agree. People keep saying we will know when we have found the right name, I really hope that is true!

    Happy Mother's Day ladies!

We are having a quiet day even though I've got plenty to do. I feel like my to-do list is getting more detailed. Things like strip diapers, find bottles, set up the crib and wash sheets and blankets stuff like that.

@beckysue: We honestly haven't had serious name discussions yet. I've got a list in my phone of names I've heard/seen that I wanted to remember so they could be considered. We don't plan to share our name till birth either so I'm liking that when people ask if we have a name yet I can honestly say no. Don't yet have to say yes but we're not telling anybody.

On my to do list is to make a to do list. I have so many that i honestly don't even want to tackle listing them out! So far I've only ordered a crib for the nursery. I have a dresser already that I'll use as a changing table. I need to get the tub fixed in the guest bathroom, I just need so many things that right now I'm totally putting off doing everything, it's terrible!!!

The past weekend my sciatica has been so bad it left me bedridden, I think I'll call my doctor today to see if there is ANYTHING she can do for me for relief. I read that only actually 1% of pregnant women get sciatica and I am positive I am the 1%. I hurt my back a while back while working out and it's the same spot, except now it extends down into my butt and legs. Anyone else suffering from back pain?? I actually can't believe I made it to work today!

Anyone swelling yet? I had bad, bad swelling Friday after working and then going to a cocktail event where I had to stand. Minimal swelling over the weekend and bad swelling again today. I'm going to blame it on our lovely southern weather. I figured it would happen, but I'm only 24w and it's going to be a looong summer. Ugh.

Nothing seemed to make them go down...will they ever!?! I was naive to think it wouldn't happen to me let me know if you find anything that helps!

@Apples4Teacher: Yikes, how does your classroom not have AC? What part of the country are you in? I've been trying to sit more at school to be off my feet a little bit. This morning I had trouble finding shoes to wear to school. I ended up wearing some that are not dress code appropriate, but I have to wear something. I went to the midwife yesterday and she said to stay really hydrated. It is hard to drink more water when you are already making a trip to the restroom practically every hour. She also said that laying down for a bit helps more than sitting with your feet up, but I doubt I will do that unless things get really bad. I really wish I had a pool right now because I bet that would feel sooo good!

    pear / 1974 posts

@Apples4Teacher: growing up, i don't remember having AC in my classes either all the way up to when i went to college! In my high school we only had air conditioning in the library, the offices and that was basically it. I'm sorry - where do you live? is it super hot where you live already?

@Apples4Teacher: Oh my! I'm on a leave of absence now, but would have died if my classroom didn't have air conditioning when I was pregnant with my daughter. I live in the southwest so it would be unbearable.

@mrs. 64: I bought a pair of Cole Haan's (that have Nike Air technology) to wear at work during my first pregnancy. I taught 1st grade and pretty much could never sit down unless it was reading intervention time. They were way more than I usually pay for shoes, but they saved me and followed the dress code. Before I bought them I would wear sandals (not on the dress code) just in the classroom and change them anytime we left the room...such a pain! The kids used to ask if I needed my "shoes that didn't hurt my feet" all the time lol. I just bought a pair of black ballet style Croc's to wear around the house and they are amazing. I think you could totally get away with wearing them at work and they were only $30. I've heard you can find them cheaper at Kohl's too!

@mrs. 64: , @chibee: ,@Mrs. M: I live in the Midwest so each day can be drastically different when it comes to the weather. It was 80s and humid on Monday and rainy and 50s today...crazy! I was at a different school in the district last year that is air conditioned and when I heard I was being moved to my current one that is not I almost cried- I honestly had no idea they still had schools with no air! The beginning of the year was the worst (thank goodness I wasn't pregnant then!) we had multiple days of over 100 degree weather...it was miserable! I'm just hoping the last few weeks of school stay mild! I'll look into those shoes...luckily my school is pretty lax and I can get away with flip flops!
