@snowjewelz: I was thinking the same. I want to take a more "stress free" approach. haha

@whenoceansrise: we are! we mostly do real foods, and when i do mix in some purees, i try to let E control what/when/how much she eats of it (and hold the spoon!).
@josina: i think the only true no-gos for babies are raw honey (botulism risk) and choking hazards (nuts, etc). just about everything else can be given, although you should watch things more closely if they are more likely to cause reactions (e.g., strawberries, peanuts, etc) and/or you have family history of reaction & allergies.

@MrsF: So glad to hear it went well yesterday!!! I mean if M is comfortable enough to use the potty she is a keeper
@winniebee: Wow, that is great!!!! So happy for you and R!!!!! Keep it up kiddo!!!!

@josina: awww silly boy! Have you tried a sippy cup? Maybe of the stroke continues which I hope it doesn't he will take that during feedings?
G is starting to understand it, and I think soon will be taking it!

@whenoceansrise: We are definitely going on the stress free approach, I am letting her take the lead as in how much to eat, she seems to get very upset if we eat and she isn't so I feed her cereal morning and night.....I am going to introduce some veggies next, I am on the BLW train but DH is not, but I think once he sees how into food she is he will understand it!
He is a by the book kind of Dad, which is sweet, but.....lol

@FaithFertility: my DH just goes with whatever I say bc I'm the one that actually researches lol. He would prob give her like steak for her first food if he is on his own haha!!

@snowjewelz: hahaha when I told him I wanted to start solids thought I meant those puff things....lol
Again men....lol
pomelo / 5660 posts
@winniebee: that's awesome!
I'm very lax following "the rules" for solids. We have no allergies so I don't really worry about the 4 day rule.
We are in size 2 with no plans on moving up.

I had been planning on doing BLW (we did with M and she is such a great eater that I don't want to change anything!). I wouldn't want to start before he can sit unsupported though, and he doesn't seem anywhere near that. For now we will wait, but he's getting increasingly angry watching us eat!
@josina: I would check with your pedi on any no-go foods. It seems that new research supports that waiting to give common allergens actually increases your risk of developing an allergy. Our first pediatrician was still going by the old school rules, but the AAP recommends giving all foods while monitoring carefully and only waiting to give honey (1 year) and whole cows milk (1 year) - and neither of those are related to allergy issues. Obviously you have to be careful about foods that are choking hazards too.

@FaithFertility: @snowjewelz: My DH is the same! I do the research so he just goes with whatever I say haha!

@FaithFertility: We have a sippy cup but he's nowhere near figuring out how to use it yet. Doesn't hold his bottle yet either, do any of these babies?
@MrsF: Annoying that E's 6 month appt. isn't for another month even though he's 6 months this weekend. I'll have to get out the book the hospital gave me again in the meantime. No family allergies so guess I shouldn't worry so much.
@KayKay: Thanks for the link, reading now. There is just so much info. on the web it's hard to know what to follow and what not to.
pomelo / 5298 posts
@josina: K can hold her bottle but mostly I don't force her too. She'll often put one hand on it or hold my arm.
Is anyone else in a hitting/patting phase? K hits all the time, sort of like how we pat her back to burp or pat her bottom to calm her. She will do it to us and her highchair tray and her jumper. It's cute, but can be annoying in the MOTN when I just want to get through a bottle with minimal interaction so we can go back to sleep.
pear / 1961 posts
@josina: very true! your ped is definitely the best place to start for info.
@mrsf: isn't it funny how older peds still follow things that aren't necessarily true? i'd totally switch docs if i didn't live in such a rural area, since i think it's important to actually listen to your doc and not ignore what he says mine told me we had to start with rice cereal, then yellow/orange veggies, then green veggies, then fruit or else she would never eat her veggies. ha.
honeydew / 7283 posts
@KayKay: Yeah - I definitely defer to them on the truly medical stuff, but on sleep and food I'm sort of in the "take their opinion and make our own decision" camp.

@MamaG: Yea..... she pats my face when I nurse her or my back if I am holding her
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@MamaG: haha, yes! Logan's always swiping at my face while I'm nursing him! I'm like "Stop hitting me, fool!"
pomegranate / 3973 posts
@MamaG: E likes to kick now.. he'll usually kick the chair arms when I'm nursing, or last night we were sitting next to DH and he kept kicking him.
pomelo / 5298 posts
@josina: Oh yes, how quickly I forget, she kicks too. If I'm sitting criss cross legged, and sort of have her bottom in my lap, she'll kick my leg. The really fun part is that she kicks C too. C is nearly 4 and will whine every time, "Mom, K kicked me!" To which my response every time is, did it hurt? half the time she says yes. C'mon!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@MamaG: OMG, Xander will whine and make a fuss if Logan just TOUCHES him! He'll be all "Ow, no baby!" and push Logan's hands away or arch himself away. I'm always rolling my eyes at him and saying "I don't think he really hurt you..."

Micah doesn't hit but he pulls my hair like whoa. I try to keep it up when I'm around him but he still manages to get a hand full!
eggplant / 11861 posts
@whenoceansrise: The hair pulling is insane!!! Necklaces too!!!! I dont wear one anymore.....or try not to!

@MamaG: In regards to the nizatidine, can you ask for it to be flavored? I know Walgreen's does it. Might help it taste less yucky (I know some things can't be flavored due to the original flavoring).
M's a little chunky monkey, so he's been in size 3's for about 2 months here & overnight diapers for about a month. He was leaking through regular diapers way too often, but now he barely does.
pomegranate / 3045 posts
H has been in size 4 diapers for a while, and overnight diapers for nighttime. He's actually had a fair number of overnight leaks this past week (ugh!annoying motn changes!!). Should I be moving up a size for the overnight?? I was wondering if maybe he's been scooching and rolling around so much that it's pulling the diaper down, but maybe I just need to size up? Why is he in such big diapers?! I feel like he isnt a massive baby or anything??
I'm planning on doing a mix of purées and blw, so I'm waiting until he can sit up unsupported. Any suggestions for blw books?

Ugh, we're getting into some bad habits here. Always nursing and/or rocking to sleep....
hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts
@MamaG: you know, than doesn't mind the taste! But he's been on it since 6w so maybe doesn't know any better!
hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts
@Adira: bad habits unite! My focus was getting Ryan into his crib and unswaddling. Then stop nursing down for naps......it's hardly worth it his naps are so awful anyhow.
eggplant / 11861 posts
@theotherstark: G is in size 3 and I could see her going to a 4 her legs are long and chunky!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@winniebee: haha, well if I were you, I'd be doing whatever it took to get some sleep! Logan at least gives me good stretches once he's asleep, so I probably should work on getting him to actually fall asleep on his own now. Oh well. I'm not going to lie - I enjoy the snuggles, especially if it means I have an excuse to avoid the tantruming toddler in the next room!
eggplant / 11861 posts
@Adira: habits are sooo hard! I suck at breaking them I always think she is just a baby dosent know any better!! But ohh they do!
pomegranate / 3045 posts
@FaithFertility: yep, h is tall too! Sigh. These babes are growing so quickly!
honeydew / 7283 posts
@Adira: Just thinking about habits - how does Logan go down for naps at daycare?
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@MrsF: I have no idea. I think he usually falls asleep in a swing. So maybe that's when he wants to be rocked at home.
hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts
My mom is watching Ryan Tuesday so without the boob we will see how she does at getting him to nap. He will probably sleep all day for her. My kids know how to suck up to grandma!
Today was one for the books though. Ryan really didn't sleep all day. Part of it was my fault in making toddler friendly plans in the morning....but he's accountable too!!!
honeydew / 7283 posts
@Adira: Makes sense. It's interesting how they can have different routines for different people though. Little stinkers!
@winniebee: He's certainly accountable! Big brother needs to have some fun too!
hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts
@MrsF: I know you mentioned recently that you pushed Js naps around for activities - does he nap on the go? My problem ends up being Ryan takes a quick car nap or stroller nap and then he's done and if throws everything off! Can't stay home all day though!
honeydew / 7283 posts
@winniebee: It's not so much that I push them around - we have him napping at 8:30 or 9 and again at 1:30 (same time as M naps). He sometimes takes a mini catnap in the PM if the second nap isn't long enough. I feel guilty because I basically put him on a schedule so that our activities work rather than letting him nap whenever he's tired. He often wants to fall asleep while we're on our way home from some activity but I do everything that I can to keep him awake until nap time.
I know he's probably not getting as much sleep as he needs, but if he napped whenever he wanted and then M naps in the afternoon I just feel like we'd be home (and tiptoeing around) every minute of the day. He doesn't nap well in the stroller and - just like you're saying - a quick car nap doesn't work well either.
hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts
@MrsF: it's great it's working for you! I'm considering starting him on a schedule as well. But probably 8 or 830, 12, and 4. Perhaps that's a battle for next week
