@winniebee: @MrsF: if he starts fussing in the crib, should i let him cry it out?
honeydew / 7283 posts
@whenoceansrise: I think it totally depends on what feels right to you! I would say that the most important thing is to be consistent - make a plan beforehand (and make sure you and your DH are on the same page) and try to stick to it.

@whenoceansrise: It depends. We did a pretty drastic transition (unsaddled and put in crib at same time) so the first night I nursed or rocked him at every wake up. But after that he got better and I made a "no feeding before midnight" rule as well as a rule that I would let him fuss/ cry at bed time -- basically use the 5, 10, 15 method. If he is just fussing or talking I leave him. If he is crying I go to him after 5 mins and shhhh him, give him his lovey and paci and say "time for bed" or "time to nap". Do the same thing after another 10/ 15. He's never cried more than 5/10 mins overall.
I started putting him down for naps totally awake as well. Do a little nap routine and follow the same 5, 10, 15 rule. He took 15 mins to fall asleep this morning but didn't really cry but I did one check. Slept an hour and 20 mins. He took 10 mins to fall asleep for his nap this afternoon and I did 2 checks because he was angry. He woke crying after 30 mins and I left him for a few minutes. He fell back asleep and has been sleeping another 1.5 hours. Not every day is this good - sometimes he only sleeps 45 mins. But it sure beats nursing him down / rocking him / jiggling him for 15-30 mins to only get a 30 minute nap.
ETA: I've also really stretched out his awake times. I put him down 1:45 after his first wake (thinking he would be asleep within 2 hours of his wake up). But this afternoon He was up 2:40 mins before his nap. I just couldn't handle 4-5 naps a day anymore and after reading through some old HB threads remembered I started stretching my first son out around 5.5 months and saw much better results. Depending on when he wakes from his nap today he probably will just have 2 naps (or, he is welcome to take a cat nap in the car home from errands).

@whenoceansrise: Agreed with the other ladies. Make a plan of what you are comfortable with. For LO1, we did timed checks (with crying) and light soothing (replace pacifier, pat her back or rub her tummy). For LO2, we have to let her cry. She's not attached to her pacifier and just gets more mad if we show up. She's not comforted by us picking her up or rocking her when she's mad.

@winniebee: I'm really thinking of trying to stretch G out too
Fighting for naps that last 30-40mins is just blahhhh

@MrsF: @winniebee: @MamaG: @FaithFertility: thanks ladies! I've been researching it all afternoon and I believe we'll take the plunge this weekend and start the process of sleep training.

@whenoceansrise: Good luck!! Agree with others that do what you think is best! I was so close to sleep training but in the end decided it's not really for us, not now anyway. But if he isn't comfortable sleeping with you anymore then I def think everyone can benefit from a change!

@whenoceansrise: good luck!
i think K has officially dropped her one remaining nap. she's 3, so it's not like i didn't see it coming...and, honestly, their schedules hadn't been syncing up much lately anyways, so it's not like i was getting kid-free time in the afternoon! but still....sadface. i'm still going to try to trick her into playing quietly in her room for an hour! maybe i'll just move it around to whenever E is napping, too. #mommytricks

@KayKay: my condolences. I highly recommend quiet time. My son is a maniac and won't do it but I hear it works well
@whenoceansrise: good luck! He might surprise you. I thought Ryan would be a big crier since he seems pretty sensitive but nope! I regret not doing it a month ago.

Up since 3:30 and she just wont go to sleep???????
Geeeshhh.....

@whenoceansrise: Good luck! I hope that better sleep is in the cards for all of you
@KayKay: I think I'll cry when M drops her nap She's 2.5 and she'll have two days where she doesn't nap at all (goes down but never falls asleep) and then the next two days or so she'll nap for 3 hours straight. So unpredictable. I fully plan on making quiet time a part of her day and would definitely move it around so that both kids are quiet at the same time #mommyneedsherbravotv.

@FaithFertility: oh man! J was up from his nap at 3 and was totally melting down by bedtime (7p). Sleep G!

@KayKay: B skipped his nap and passed out by 7 pm. It was my fault though.

@mrsf: yeah, she hasn't napped every day in awhile. on preschool days (MWF), she almost never naps during their "rest time" from 2-3, but she was still napping at least 3/4 of the other days when she was home until recently. it's actually not SO terrible because we have been putting her down for bed between 7/730 now, whereas she had been doing like 8-830. since i go to bed by 930 most nights, it IS nice having the extra hour or so in the evening!

@banddmommy: i loved D's outfit on IG today. K had the same little romper when she was little, but the 3mos size wasn't going to cut it for E this time around!
pear / 1961 posts
@banddmommy: ah I keep forgetting how tiny she is since she looks so mighty in all of the pics, what with her sitting and standing! what were her 6mo stats?!

@MrsF: She is a mess with sleep lately.... but it is bringing
Good nights finally down at 8:30 up to eat at 2 and slept till 6:30
hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts
@BandDmommy: so cute!!
@KayKay: the great part of no nap is Tyler will go to sleep as early as 7! Since Ryan goes to sleep by 7/730 it's nice to have that option
I'm not sure if Ryan is coming down with something but he took only two naps yesterday - one was 1.5 hrs and the other 3 hrs!!!!! He was up from his second nap at 330 and was deliriously tired by 630. Sort of a strange night. Up at 1, 340, 420 (I just gave him paci) and at 530 acted like he was up for the day but we ignored him and he slept til 7.
@FaithFertility: 5 hrs awake is a long time even in my world lol! Glad your night was ok!
eggplant / 11861 posts
@winniebee: RIGHT?????? She was so tired come 7 but just would not go down... happy but tired... lol
It is like she thinks she is going to miss this big party or something!

@BandDmommy: Aww, so cute! Love the outfit. She is such a little thing, I'd love to see her next to E, we're in 9 month already.
@FaithFertility: That was a good night, glad the no naps had a good outcome for nighttime sleep.
Back to 1-1/2 bottles yesterday plus cereal and a banana at daycare. I'm starting to think he just wants to go straight to solids! The sucky part is that it screws up my nights because I automatically feed him each time he wakes up 'just in case' he's hungry. Ate at 12:15, 3, and 4:45 last night so it's not horrible but I'd like to lose the 3:00 feed.

K woke up this morning laughing and playing in her crib. I have to admit even though she was happy, I was a bit worried that something was wrong. Ha!

@BandDmommy: So precious!
and yes, there's something amazingly luxurious about watching something as ridiculous as most of the Bravo shows.
@FaithFertility: Sorry that naps are tough it's so hard to struggle with them all day long. Sounds like a good night though!
@KayKay: @winniebee: Glad to hear that there's an upside to no naps. I remember being SO depressed about the switch from 2 naps to 1 and now I'm already looking forward to Jack being on 1 nap - it makes life so much easier! I guess there are pros and cons to every stage
I hope that R is feeling ok! M seemed to wake up with a cough...
honeydew / 7283 posts
@josina: Ugh - that's tough. It seems like his body has gotten used to getting most of his calories at nighttime. I can't really think how you would change that though!
@Miss Ariel: That's too funny. I love how as parents we find something to worry about no matter what!
@KayKay: Mighty is the perfect word for @BandDmommy: 's D
nectarine / 2210 posts
@josina: k has supposedly been fighting bottles at daycare lately, so maybe it's a thing. They are still able to get her to drink all 4 bottles, I guess it's just becoming harder than normal. I do think she's becoming more interested in food, so maybe that's part of it? I know last night during dinner she was silent and starred at us the whole time we were eating.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@BandDmommy: Oh my gosh, she's so sweet!!
@winniebee: He's probably sick. I think Ryan and Logan like to get sick around the same time with the same things and Logan is sick, so Ryan must be too. Sorry!
pomegranate / 3973 posts
@Miss Ariel: Glad that at least she is taking them yet. E is a stubborn fella.
I wonder too if there is to much going on with all the kiddos if he just 'doesn't have time' and wants to watch.
At dinner last night E had watermelon in his mesh feeder and I think wanted what we were eating still. He yelled till dad gave him a couple chunks of bread. He wants to grow up to fast I think!
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@FaithFertility: Yep K was awake for an hour or so MOTN too... Hasn't happened in a while too. Sometimes she takes 4 short naps, sometimes 3 nice naps.. It's so all over the place!
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@Miss Ariel: Haha when they're upset we're worried, when they're happy we still worry!
hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts
@Adira: oh no, again?!? he seems fine today.....only time will tell i guess!
@MrsF: the switch from 2 to 1 was harder than 1 to 0. Mostly because I don't have to preserve any sort of schedule and really don't care if he falls asleep in the car (which he does a few times a week). When we were on 1 nap if he fell asleep for even 5 minutes.....that was it for the day! we are still regulating sleep but I think part of it has to do with potty training and other developmental stuff.
eggplant / 11861 posts
@snowjewelz: yeah we are usually 4 naps...because they are so stinking short
Offf up MOTN for an hr is hard!!!
eggplant / 11861 posts
@Miss Ariel: ahhh sweet girl! G used to do that and I would think How long have you been up? Now I'm like play away kiddo as long as your nor crying I'm staying in bed...lol
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
Ugh, shouldn't have been joking about Logan's cold. I had tp pick him up early because he's been inconsolable all afternoon.
