Yes and we are also getting bolt locks installed. That way when we give people like relatives or cleaning service keys, they still can't get in if we are home and throw the bolt. That's also what we did in our apartment since every tom dick and harry seemed to have a key!

We never did it when we were renting. I was thinking about doing it now that we just closed on our apartment. we don't have anything yet but I'm seriously considering it.

Just rekeyed the locks...more cost effective option than replacing

@Sapphiresun: Yes and no.
Our house was being used as a rental before we bought it. The owner was in the process of changing the locks as we were buying it so we kept the same locks. (we live in a rural area where the doors aren't even locked half the time).
We fully indeed on changing them again when we get our new door, but we won't be doing that until this summer.

heckk yes we changed the locks! Our house settlement was 12pm.... the old owner was still here moving her crap out at 6pm (it ended in a mega yelling match - she had a 3 month settlement!!) I changed the locks while she was here moving her stuff out, and then she had the gall to ask the locksmith to come to her new house to change the locks there. good thing I did, as she randomly came past my house in the weeks after settlement to pick up any mail as she was too lazy to get it forwarded.

We didn't, though I was just thinking about whether we should the other day. I want to get a new front door, so I might just wait until we get around to that.

I wouldn't have thought about it on my own, but it was one of the first things my husband did.

No. The guy who owned the house before us died like a week after we moved in. And didn't have family.

@MrsYellowJacket: considering they have master keys that are sometimes copied for sub contracted tradesmen to use this is a MUST! I have several builder's master keys in my drawer at work.
