We bought a house, and changing the locks is on the standard to do list. I've never thought much about it when I was in a rental and just got handed keys that who knows who else has... but I'm curious if this is a thing people think is a must do.

We did, we actually changed all the exterior doors to keyless entry.

Yup! The old locks were ancient and all used different keys, so we were able to change to all be the same.

....nope! Oops! Also the next door neighbors gave us the key they had about 6 months after we moved in... weird. We do have a security system though

Hahaha we did not...and I didn't even think about it. So much so that when I read this question I thought it meant "did you change your hair when you bought your house?" Lol!

Lol, nope! Seems stupid now but it didn't even cross my mind at the time.

This is on our to-do list but we're waiting til summer when we'll have more time for projects. We have an alarm system now and we'll be getting all new doors.

YES!!!! But we suspected the previous owners of some foul play so it was a MUST. It was a short sale and during the process the hot water heater disappeared.. AND there were no appliances but they "swore" they left them there... yeah right. They all must have sprung legs and walked out on their own?

I never did when I was single in apartments. Our house was rented out for years, so yeah I wanted to rekey it. It sucked cause that meant a whole new door. Since the door was from the 50's, new locks wouldn't fit. It turned into an almost $1K project.

No, we didn't know it was a thing. And then someone told us it was a thing, and we still didn't do it.

Nope, not until about 6 months later when we got around to it. Actually it was kind of a sore spot. Our Realtor said that she rekeys all of her homes as a congratulations gift. Yea, that never happened. We closed and never heard from her again.

No. Never even thought of it. We didn't even change the garage code. We probably should do at least that.

Not right away. We did it about six months later after a friend of mine came into our house while we were away to check on our cats. She was not the friend that we asked to check on the cats, so we changed the locks immediately and did not give her a spare key.

Yes right after we had some contractors in, before we moved in. I also learned if you save the receipt you can deduct that cost with your moving expenses on your taxes.

Every time I read this post I think it is asking if I cut my hair Haha... yeah tired.

@woodentulip: Lol! That is exactly what I thought when I saw this post earlier, which is why I didn't open it then. I thought it was a weird correlation to cut your hair when buying a house but thought maybe it's a thing to start everything anew!
To answer the question, nope, didn't bother changing the locks. Not super fussed either. The day after we moved in, the teenage daughter of the previous owner brought over her brother's key that they'd forgotten to leave the day before - and that's now the key I use. Not worried about it...

We rekeyed immediately- before we moved anything in. We scheduled a locksmith to come out the day we closed.

Nope. Never really thought of it. The prior owners/tenants handed over their keys and neither live locally so I guess I'm not all that concerned?
