Did you like your name when you were younger?
My first name was fine but I really resented my parents for my middle name. I didn't share it with anyone until I was in high school! I wanted to drop my middle when I got married but my mom gave me a huge guilt trip about it.

I love my name! It's pretty unusual, not just in the US but even in our language, and it has special meaning for me. No middle name.

No. I was always Lindsey M. I hated being one of 3 or 4 Lindsey's.

Nope. And I still don't like it. I don't have a middle name so I have no other name choice (except my Starbucks name )

Yes, for the most part. I liked that my name was special- spelled differently than most and I always had to spell it. I was the only one I knew IRL with that name for a long time. There were four pairs of girls in my class that had the same name! So yep, I was cool being the only one with my name. Lol.
However, once I realized just how popular and juvenile it sounded I didn't like it.
Sometimes I would have my parents call me by middle name, which I truly do love, just because it sounded more princess-y.

@NavyRN2012: I was a Lindsay M. too, but actually didn't know a ton of Lindsays. I've always liked my name, but my parents and brothers do call me by a nickname.

I like this thread! Interestingly, when I was younger, I went by a different nickname and hated the more traditional nickname for my name. Then briefly went by my full name. And now go by my current nickname which is essentially my name at this point. I would like it if people called me by my real name but it's hard for me to even introduce myself. Literally no one uses it.

Not at all. It was uncommon with no good nicknames. Once I got older I appreciated there were not a ton of girls my name around.

And I just want to add that this is the reason I made sure my DD's first and middle names have MANY nick name options so she hopefully has at leave one name she likes.

At one point I hated it...this is after I found out who I was named after. And there was usually one or two other girls with my name in school. I went by my middle name for a little bit. It seems like there are 500 ways to spell it 
I still don't love it but it is what it is.
At Starbucks before I was a regular at the location near my job they always used to write Victoria. I could have lives with that name.

It's not my favorite. Unless I move to Russia, everyone I meet mispronounces my name. I disliked it when I was young because all my friends had easy to pronounce names!

I love my name and always have. It wasn't very popular in my generation so I was always the only one. It has been used in some poplar shows since then and is more popular now. It's so odd for me to be somewhere and hear a mother call "my" name but not be talking to me, they'll be talking to their 5-6 yr old. Hard to get used to!

I didn't like my name at all - people would misspell it, not know how to pronounce it, think I was guy, etc. I went to legally change it when I was in college though and couldn't go through with it - at that point I decided it was too much a part of me.

Not at all when I was younger. I have a really unique first and middle name. I would get teased so much. Also no one could ever pronounce it.
Now I love it and wouldn't change it!

I don't like my name. My three older sisters ended up with more American sounding names, but my younger sister and I ended up with Chinese names. I got made fun of a lot when I was younger. DH also has a very Asian name. We gave our kids normal names.

I never liked my name (Ashley). I felt like my sisters got beautiful and exotic names (they are not actually exotic at all, but that's how I felt), whereas I got the most popular name in the year I was born.

Nope. They gave me an old lady name (Ruth). I had day-dreams about going by my middle name instead (Erin), but every time the chance presented itself (college, new city, etc) I chickened out. I would have felt bad doing that to my parents, I guess.

I was born in 1981 and I longed to have a cool 80's girl name like Tiffany, Stephanie, Melissa, etc. I thought my name was so boring and not girly enough, but I really appreciate and like it as an adult.

No. It sounds like a nickname, it's always misspelled and/or makes people think that I am a man, and it doesn't sound good with my (DH's) last name. Plus nobody uses the name for girls now so it feels dated.

@meredithNYC: That's funny, my name is the M name you listed but I always thought it was so boring! I've always gone by a fairly common five letter nickname for my name and still use it today in my later 30s. It feels a bit ridiculous using that nickname still but absolutely everyone calls me it and even though I've tried to go back to my full name a number of times, it always fails as people just can't get used to calling me my full name.

@NavyRN2012: Funny! I have the same name, but I was the only one in my grade. There was one girl with the same name in the grade above and one in the grade below. I haven't ever felt like my name is super common.

I don't like mine! I cringe every time I introduce myself, because I know they're thinking "what kind of a name is that?!" It's hard to make any kind of good impression after that. I tried a couple of nicknames in my teens, but it felt silly that I'm going by one name, but all my school paperwork is by another. Should have just gone through the bother of changing it legally!

I have a pretty popular 80s name. I didn't like it growing up. I always wanted something really sassy like Roxy or elegant like Antoinette. Now that I'm older I really like it.

Nope. Sarah D in every class all throughout school. And then when I was 14 my brother married a woman named Sarah, and they lived with us for a while so we were both either Sarah middle name or "Big/Little Sarah" (I was Little because I was younger).
As an adult, though, I love my name. It's classic and timeless and I love the way it sounds.

I have always liked mine It only caused a problem once when I dated a boy who was Jewish in high school. My name is both Gealic and Hebrew in origins and his mom was less then thrilled when she found out I was the Gaelic side of things! It was a super awkward conversation and she then (while laughing) told me we could date but not get married! I think she was joking... But I was never sure ha ha!
