I'm in the process of making a bunting topper for his smash cake, and obviously I wouldn't put a candle under it (because, you know, fire).
I was thinking I could put it on a cupcake or remove the topper when it's time to sing Happy Birthday, but would a candle be wasted on him this year? He can blow raspberries but not blow out air on command, so it would be me and DH for show.
Did your LO have a candle on their first birthday cake?

No, he is so grabby, I could imagine bad things happening if there had been a candle on his cake.

Yes, but he couldn't blow the candles. We sang Happy Birthday and blew the candles out for him. He was able to blow the candles by his 2nd birthday.

No. We didn't. They saw their first birthday candle at 2. They were good with not touching it.

Yes, even though the adults had to blow out the candle. Of course, the photo of the big moment has me grabbing the cake back from DS when I realized he totally wants to touch the flame... FAIL. We were a little smarter with DD and showed her the candle, but didn't put it close enough to touch.

Yes, and he was mesmerized by it. We made sure to be close by to blow it out quickly when he did make a grab for it and it was fine.

Yes, and he definitely grabbed it in the middle of the happy birthday song and we had to spend a few minutes consoling him...but he was quickly distracted once he tasted the cake...
