I tell my cleaning lady to be more thorough, if that counts!

I spot clean, but my mother always finds something to clean when she visits. ( it doesn't bother me.)

Definitely! I keep it pretty clean in general but I always make sure the kitchen and bathrooms are spotless and I like everything to be fresh when we have visitors. So that makes it even more annoying when in-laws don't give us any notice when they are coming to visit!

We do for my MIL because she's SO picky. She once told me I wasn't a very good housekeeper because my baseboards were dusty. My parents and FIL, we just tidy up. They could care less.

@mrbee: I know. I'm a disgrace. I have bad knees, so it's hard to get down there though. At least that's my excuse.

I do! We're not super clean most of the time, though, so the place usually needs a good scrubbing by the time someone comes to visit.

Yes. For guests or even the fireplace inspection guy. It's sad because that's the only time we really clean. We definitely need to change since LO will be mobile soon.

Yup! More so for ILs. My mom will come help me clean before parties sometimes, but I'd never let mil do that!

I got through and make sure things are put away (shove all the baby gear in her room, shut the door), vacuum, wipe things down, clean the toilet. It's generally pretty clean in here anyway, but when my mom was over the other day she said I need to dust, So...apparently I better dust before anyone comes over. The funny thing is, the people coming over are complete pigs and their houses are very dirty, so why should I even bother.

I do. I keep my house pretty clean anyway, but I like to deep clean for guests. I also do it so I don't feel the need to clean while our guests are still visiting.

I go completely crazy, clean every inch of the house and panic about stupid stuff like the hand towel in the bathroom being wonky or wires showing behind the TV. I have no idea why I get so crazy.

Yeah, I make sure the bathroom is in good shape, that toilet paper is stocked. I make sure the dogs haven't broken into the guest room and slobbered on the bed, and I definitely mop just a few hours before they arrive so the floors look good!

For my in-laws and guests, yes. For my own family, yes, but not as thoroughly if I'm short on time. But we try to keep the place pretty clean most of the time just for ourselves. Baseboards and tables are such dust-magnets though - ugh! So annoying how they get dusty so quick!

Funny you ask b/c I just spent ALL morning in our basement cleaning...vacuuming, organizing my husband's "man room" or "office" or whatever you call it b/c it's more his storage room if anything. Maybe after I watch some TV and relax I'll start on the main level. I have 4-5 days until they come. I don't normally clean like this before my in-law's (MIL, FIL, BIL, and SIL's family so a total of 7 ppl staying with us plus a dog) family visits but almost 9 months after having a second baby I feel like our house needs a good cleaning! I'm also embarrassed when friends stop by b/c our house is SO messy. Every room is cluttered with crap. I haven't seen our formal dining room table in forever. Even after we converted our formal living room into the boys' play room we STILL have toys all over the place. I used to be super clean and organized. Oh boy has having kids changed me! I still can't stand mess and dirt though...

Yes, but mostly focus on the downstairs living/dining/kitchen/bathroom. I don't really expect them to spend much time in our bedrooms so those just get normal cleaning.
