@bushelandapeck: On Monday I plan to begin natural induction methods... with gusto! Haha.

@dominobee: haha. I'm thinking of doing the same. We have a lot of plans this weekend with the kids (swim, birthday parties, etc) so I'm going to hold out until after those are out of the way.

@bushelandapeck: Wow! So close!! I can't believe my due date is "only" a month away at this point, but some of us are already getting so close!

@bushelandapeck: I'm "full term" (37 weeks) on Monday and since they'd want to induce at 38 anyway I'd rather labor starts more naturally. There is a Hypnobabies track called "Baby Come Out" and it's taken all my willpower not to listen to it yet! Haha. Otherwise I plan to walk more (or at all, lol), have sex, eat spicy food, drink raspberry leaf tea, acupuncture... whatever might work to get things moving!

@dominobee: Ugh I'm so sorry your company is just such a total show about the benefits. Have you spoken with the actual company that issues the policy? Like @LBee: suggested, I think there is a strong possibility they automatically will give you more time for a twin birth, I know something similar happens at my work. Also, I hate to bring up another possible issue, but I'm a little nervous for you bc I know usually these policies have a waiting period and you can't sign up for them once you are actually pregnant and then get the benefits. You should have been informed of that already but it sounds like they have no clue what is going on. So I would double check with the company to make sure that is not an issue either... It does sound like your employer knows they dropped the ball and either way will pay you even if it's not thru STD and I hope that is the case.

@dominobee: @bushelandapeck: So exciting that you are both so close to delivery!! Hopefully things just start happening naturally very soon.

As for me, I decided this weekend to wash the covers to the baby bouncer, RNP, and carseat. The carseat was in storage and had never been cleaned and had gotten kind of gross so thankfully I thought to do that! But then when last night I went to put it back together I had NO CLUE what to do and the internet was no help bc I had like 100% disassembled it. So PROTIP - If you have to disassemble a bucket seat, take a picture of what the straps look like before you do so! I finally figured it out but my DH and I might need marriage counseling now

@petitenoisette: cleaning car seats is THE WORST.
I really need to be better about never letting LO snack / drink in the car seat buttttt.........

@dominobee: Don't forget the nipple stimulation! From what I read it's the most scientifically-based way? I have started nursing my just-turned-2 son again, due to his persistent requests. Yay for the beginning of a tandeming journey?

I think DH and I have given up on DTD completely at this point... oops.... This basketball belly makes everything uncomfy. And it didn't help at all last time soooooo..... less motivation!

  9. dominobee

    pear / 1553 posts

@DesertDreams88: Oh yeah nipple stim! DH is looking forward to that part, LOL.

@petitenoisette: Good call, I am going to find out about that ASAP. I was already pregnant when my company bought the policy.

  10. bushelandapeck

    pomelo / 5720 posts

@petitenoisette: YES! I made that mistake with a carseat only one time. Never again! I actually had to buy a new seat this time because ours was expired but last time I had mine professionally cleaned for just this reason. Haha! I was so happy when I opened the carseat box yesterday and all the straps and parts were in the right place so I didn't have to adjust anything.

@dominobee: I'll be trying most of those things too! I think walking did the most for me the last two times as it kept the contractions coming more frequently. I'm with @DesertDreams88: about being over DTD at this point but we are still managing the occasional 1-2x/week so I'll probably try that too.

  11. dominobee

    pear / 1553 posts

@bushelandapeck: Oh I've been over it for a while - I can't freaking move!! But it'll be worth it if it helps to start labor.

    pear / 1521 posts

@DesertDreams88: yea LO1 may have peed in her seat the other day and I may have not bothered to wash it

Oh and on DTD, ugh I have trying to make sure it happens at least every couple weeks, I have had so little interest almost my whole pregnancy. And and try to remind myself that after birth it could be a long long time before I am physically/emotionally ready again but yea, it’s getting tough...

    pomelo / 5129 posts

@petitenoisette: omg. I'm so glad my mom was visiting when we cleaned the seat we inherited. I'd taken the cover off and thrown it in the wash a week or so before but hadn't washed out the plastic part yet. When we went to put it back together it was so confusing! I know trying to figure it out with DH would have been awful! (thankfully that's my mom's "job" when my SIL has babies so she's done it a bunch of times)

When I registered, we didn't know we'd be getting a stroller from our friends along with the car seats. So I'd registered for one. I went to start the return with amazon this morning, and "as a thank you for using amazon registries" they put a $30 credit in my account. What?? It's not at all part of the return. But I'm not asking any questions!

    pomelo / 5129 posts

A deal (in case you haven't seen it)...free $20 GC at target if you spend $100 on baby essentials.

I got all the first aid type stuff I hadn't gotten off my registry (tylenol, gas drops, diaper rash cream, etc), nipples in a few sizes (I bought glass bottles used, but no nipples), and some bath supplies. Diapers are also eligible (but I'm close to the diaper deal with my amazon registry so it seemed silly to spend money on them)

Ok so here's a (potentially dumb) question. How do you know what contractions feel like if you don't know what contractions feel like???

  17. petitenoisette

    pear / 1521 posts

@dominobee: I feel like when they’re the real deal, there is no mistaking them. You just know.

@dominobee: like @petitenoisette: said, you’ll know. One minute you’re crying in so much pain, next moment you could be laughing & then the pain comes again & you’re screaming bloody murder.

@bushelandapeck: maybe baby will make his arrival on his own next Wednesday?

  19. bushelandapeck

    pomelo / 5720 posts

@dominobee: I agree. You’ll know They get progressively harder to talk and breathe through and they get closer together.

@lazypanda: here’s hoping! I’m guessing he will be coming sometime around then.

@dominobee: Not a dumb question! Last time I was pregnant I called a friend who had a baby 8 weeks before me to ask her what contractions were and how I was supposed to know because I was so nervous about it. When the real ones started 2 days later I DEFINITELY knew after a couple of hours (mine felt like period cramps and got progressively more painful).

I posted on the FB board but I’ll update here too. I’m 40w today by my OBs calculations and had an ultrasound to confirm baby boy is head down-he is! Fluid and everything else looked great too and we got to see him practicing his breathing! Now it’s just a waiting game to see when he will make his appearance

Ok so I'm fairly certain I had two contractions this morning a few minutes apart, but they stopped once I got out of bed and I didn't have a third until I got to work more than an hour later. It was a pretty intense pain all over my abdomen from my ribs down to my crotch and I couldn't really move during them. So hopefully this means real, timeable contractions will begin soon!

  25. theotherstark

    pomegranate / 3045 posts

@dominobee: fingers crossed for you!! I’ve been having a lot of contractions the past week, as well, but I’m not putting much thought into them since they’re not regular. I hope yours turn into labor soon! I can’t remember; when are they inducing you if you don’t go naturally?

Just thought I’d put the updated list here!! Have there been any other babies born, aside from Tosun’s?? I wasn’t sure what date she was born, either. So exciting that we are starting to meet these little ones!!

Oh - and here's an update from my u/s and MFM appointment yesterday!

Babies are measuring around the 80th percentile. B is just slightly larger than A but nothing to be concerned about - and not enough to make delivery of B difficult after A comes out. Plenty of fluid in both sacs and heartbeats are good.

Speaking to the MFM specialist really put my mind at ease and also helped me wrap my head around what is likely to happen, logistically speaking. I think because I am "high risk" (just b/c it's twins - nothing is actually clinically wrong) when I meet w/ regular providers who usually see low-risk pregnancies they sort of wring their hands about this birth. Seeing the high-risk doctor she seemed very confident that I'm going to have two complication-free vaginal births, which was really great to hear. Compared to what she is used to dealing with (GD, preecclampsia, etc.) this probably seems like a pretty uncomplicated birth.

She also really helped me understand what the best course of action is in terms of an epidural. I had really wanted to have an unmedicated birth, but I also obviously do NOT want to undergo general anesthesia if there is a reason to do a c-section. If Baby B turns breech after his brother is out, and I do not have an epidural, then they will not do a breech extraction. So I've decided that I will delay getting an epidural as long as possible, and then when I do get it, start it at a very mild level for pushing A out. If a breech extraction or a c-section becomes necessary, we can turn up the level of the epidural. My main concern was just being able to feel what is going on - I really don't want to be completely numb.

Overall feeling really good about my babies' upcoming birth! Here are the latest glamour shots - from a weird angle I think. Or at least I hope their noses and lips aren't that giant, haha.

@theotherstark: Yes, they'll induce at 38 weeks. I see the midwives again on Monday (37 weeks) so I'm assuming we'll schedule the induction at that point just in case I don't go into labor. But I'm really feeling like it will happen next week!

AND I just got out of a meeting with my bosses and the disability/maternity stuff has all been resolved. This has resulted in a completely new maternity policy and my boss's boss not only apologized to me, but actually thanked me for bringing all of this to their attention so they could figure out the problems and develop a new policy! Long story short I'll get 8 weeks at 100% then max out my sick days for 12 days to mean I'll essentially get paid 60% for the remaining 4 weeks. And if I come back and need more sick days before my work anniversary it's at my boss's discretion to award them.

@dominobee: Glad to hear the good news from work and that babies are doing well! I can't imagine carrying two at this point - you're a super hero : ) Is the 80th percentile comparing to singletons or other twin pregnancies? If they were full term, would they expect them to be the same size as singletons?

@bushelandapeck: Glad you're still doing well! When will they induce?

I had my 37 week appointment yesterday and baby girl seems to be doing well. I don't think I've had any contractions or other signs of labor - she's head down but still very high. Induction will be at 41 weeks if she hasn't arrived by then. DH is making a day trip to NYC during my 39th week for work so I am crossing my fingers that's not the day she decides to arrive!

So excited to see everyone's LOs arrive in the next few weeks

  37. dominobee

    pear / 1553 posts

@skiierchck99: That is compared to singletons! So yes, if we went to 40 weeks they'd be relatively big babies. Based on measurements from yesterday, Baby A is between 5lb 6oz - 7lb 4oz and B is between 5lb 9oz - 7lb 8oz. So I'm definitely feeling confident about their sizes at this point!

Glad everything is going well with you! Hope your DH is around for the birth!!

@dominobee: Both our families are known for big babies so I am really hopeful for nothing over 9lbs....based on just feeling my stomach yesterday the OB predicted she will be big and she would guess 8 and a half lbs at 40 weeks We shall see...

On the off chance I did go into labor on that day, he'll jump on the next plane home. Luckily, his meeting is like 10 minutes from Laguardia and there are planes to Boston every hour!
