@mama2em: That sounds promising! It sounds like you might have a relatively low number retrieved, but like others have said, that's not necessarily a bad thing! Thinking lots of good thoughts for you and hoping for more good news later today! Hang in there-- and please keep us updated!

@mama2em: I think you want your estrogen to double every 48 hours or so. Yours is going up, but not quite doubled. I still think it's a good sign that it went up though, because that number indicates more than just a couple mature follicles. My E2 was 750 after 8 days of stimming during my first IVF cycle and they retrieved 16 eggs, so all hope is definitely not lost (full disclosure, I did have 13 follicles between 12-22mm at that time). Good luck!

Just saw this thread now. While I was going through IVF#1 a few years ago, a co-worker at the time was going through her second IVF cycle and BOTH cycles she had success with only a few eggs!! She has two sons now. She would only get a few eggs, but most would fertilize, she'd do a 2 or 3 day transfer and it worked! So just giving you hope!

thank you everyone for the encouragement! just got back from my appointment and waiting for the bloodwork to come back. on the scan, we saw the 3 bigger follicles and another one catching up! they think it'll def. be there in time for retrieval. i also had 2 others that measured 12 & 13 mm- they said not to count on those but there's still hope that these will grow in time for retrieval. my RE will be calling me later with my bloodwork and next steps, but after seeing everyone's responses, speaking with one of my favorite nurses, and of course consulting with my husband, we are probably going to go forward with egg retrieval and cross our fingers. i'm really scared that none of my eggs will make it to transfer, but i guess it's pointless thinking that far ahead. definitely not the best news i was hoping for, but not devastating news i guess...?

also, do any of you ladies know of a good website to buy fertility meds at a discounted price? the nurse and i talked about the option of going in for a 2nd retrieval if i'm not happy with how this turns out and batching both retrievals together, then getting genetic testing, and then doing a frozen cycle. not sure if i'm going to go this route- i'd like to try to do a fresh transfer if i have any good ones to transfer this time around. i skimmed through some other posts and there were a couple websites that others seemed to recommend, but has anyone used these successfully and saved a lot of money? just trying to figure out some financial stuff before making a decision on this particular ivf cycle and perhaps a future cycle...

@bluestripedbee thank you! i'll take a closer look at your thread and jot down some notes!

@mama2em: I'd go forward with a transfer too. Sounds like you have several good-sized follies, which will hopefully be perfect quality for fertilising! x

@mama2em: Sounds like you've got a good plan and most importantly, one that you're comfortable with! Sending lots of luck and good thoughts always!

Hey there! Just wanted to wish you luck with your first IVF cycle! I am 12 weeks pregnant after my first cycle. We did a fresh transfer (although in hindsight a FET would have been better for me because I got awful OHSS). I stimmed fast and was only on the meds for 7 days but I felt great during that week. I was scared it would be painful and uncomfortable due to my endometriosis and cysts on my ovaries but really it was a breeze for me, all my trouble came after I got pregnant/ohss.
Wishing you all the best, it is a roller coaster thats for sure!

@mama2em: Sounds like today was a bit better and you have a good plan in place. I would want to try a fresh transfer for sure but you will need to make that decision once you get through the retrieval. I have my FX that this cycle is all you need

so my estrogen came back today at 1300, which is good, i think? this will be my 8th day of stimming. i talked to my RE and she said she usually doesn't recommend proceeding with IVF with less than 3 follicles, but b/c i have 4 promising follicles and 2 that hopefully will catch up after a couple more days of stimming, she thinks we still have a decent shot at all this. what a roller coaster, you said it best @mrs.pinecone316! i felt so crushed yesterday and today, i feel a glimmer of hope so i'm hoping my 2 smaller follicles will catch up in time for retrieval. unless something dramatic happens, i think we will be heading for retrieval tues or wednesday of next week! more scans/bloodwork to come...

ok i'm a little obsessed with numbers, so just throwing this out there after today's appointment. the nurse counted 7 possible follicles today, and here are the measurements: 30, 23, 22, 15, 14, 12, 12.
questions:
1) does anyone know if the huge 30mm follicle will be compromised or is this one still safe if i stim for 1-2 more days? didn't really get a clear answer from the nurse- she said not to worry about it.
2) do you think the 12mm follicles will catch up in time? my retrieval will be either tues or wednesday!
thank you in advance for your thoughts! just waiting for a call regarding my bloodwork, so just doing my own analysis till then
kiwi / 613 posts
@mama2em: I think the 30 will probably be too far gone by then. They may just be sacrificing that one and holding out for the smaller batch to save that grouping, rather than pulling you for a trigger tonight to save the largest. Normally they trigger when the bulk have reached the 18-24 range.

@mama2em: I wish I had good advice...a really large follicle might be post-mature, but it's probably best to get as many mature follicles as possible, which is why they're going to stim you for a bit longer, I would think. This is where we put our faith in our medical professionals and as my mantra says, "Trust the process." Hang in there, lady!
grape / 91 posts
@fliegepilzhut thank you! i went in for another scan today and guess what...the nurse found that the huge 30mm one is actually 2 separate follicles! so things are looking good, if my bloodwork comes back ok, they are going to have me stim for yet ONE MORE DAY! that will make it 10 days of stimming. so i have 6 promising follicles and 2 smaller ones (almost 13) that they are hoping will catch up in time. it's crazy how everything changes daily so you're absolutely right...i just need to trust the process and have some faith!
pomegranate / 3533 posts
@mama2em: That's lovely news! I very much hope that this is the only cycle you need!
grape / 91 posts
@fliegepilzhut can I ask u if you remember what your progesterone level was before you triggered with your first ivf? Just got a call from the nurse that I will be doing one more day of stims and my progesterone is at 1.3 right now so they are ok with me going for one more day, but I'm also concerned bc they've told me that higher progesterone levels before trigger are not good for fresh transfers.
If anyone else has any input, I would greatly appreciate it!
pomegranate / 3533 posts
@mama2em: I don't think we did a progesterone level...in fact, at some point we were just doing ultrasounds, no blood work at all! FX for a good ER very soon (Wednesday?)!!!
pomegranate / 3764 posts
@mama2em: Sounds like it's all working out beautifully. I can't remember exactly, but I think our clinic does a freeze all (no transfer) if the progesterone is above 4 or 5, from memory.

hi there! i'm booked for a retrieval this wednesday! excited, nervous, totally don't know what to expect!!
pomegranate / 3533 posts
@mama2em: You shouldn't have to do anything but relax...almost everyone gets twilight sedation, so you won't remember (or feel) anything! FX for an excellent retrieval and a great fertilization report on Thursday!!!

thank you @fliegepilzhut @sunshine1810!
i'm signing my consent forms right now, and something is kind of worrying me on this form that maybe you ladies may have had similar concerns about. one of the reasons listed why a cycle may fail is b/c "eggs may be ovulated prematurely, thus preventing retrieval." i mean, is this pretty rare? i called the office and they said they have seen it happen and unfortunately, it's not something they can do anything about b/c the body does what the body does. i've worried about this in the past with my IUIs, but i guess i just felt that with ivf, since it's more monitored, there would be absolutely no chance of this happening. i know i have to just trust the process, but the thought of this happening freaks me out!!!
pomegranate / 3533 posts
@mama2em: VERY rare...and, of course, terrifying! It was at this point in my cycle where I felt like I just needed to "trust the experts"! Sending big hugs!!!
grapefruit / 4703 posts
@mama2em: It is rare, and that's why they have you on the Ganirelix, to suppress your body's natural ovulation. Then you'll take the trigger shot, which will force your body to ovulate at an exact time. They time the trigger shot for IVF exactly 36 hours before your retrieval for this exact reason. Don't worry about the consent forms... they're just covering their bums, legally speaking Good luck on Wednesday!

Just popping by to say good luck! I know it's sooo hard to not obsess over the numbers, but just try your best to relax and put all the positive energy you can muster towards those follicles/eggs you do have! Wishing you all the best for a great retrieval and fert. report
pear / 1556 posts
@mama2em: Try not to worry too much about what is in the consent forms. They are covering themselves and many of the situations they describe are very rare. Good luck with your retrieval!
