My 16 week twins sleep very differently. DD can be put down sleepy but drowsy (not something I ever did intentionally - it just happened to work and I later read about how good it is for babies) and she will fall asleep within 10 minutes. DS is much more high maintenance. It probably originates from the fact that he has always spit up more and in the early days we held him to sleep on many occasions. I have only been able to get him to fall asleep on his own maybe once per week.

I nurse both babies to sleep before naps & at night. If DS wakes up during the transfer to his crib, he can sometimes be consoled with tummy rubbing, but I often have to nurse him for a few more minutes or give up on the nap window.

Both babies certainly have a decent amount of gas (which boggles my mind for EBF babies). Farting is a frequent part of our day and they burp a decent amount too when being held upright.

So knowing this - I probably should burp DS before putting him down. But I know that it will wake him up and then I'd have to re-nurse him. And the cycle would continue.

I do think the gas has increased since I started BF in the double football hold -- but I don't see how that would be a cause.

Any tips? Anybody know how to burp a baby without waking them up? Should I try gripe water? If so - do I give that before I BF? Any ideas on how to teach a baby to go to sleep on his own better?

DS often wakes himself up farting and is super uncomfortable from that gas.
