LO's 2nd birthday is in less than 2 weeks, and I have no clue what to get her. She needs things, like shoes, stuff to transition to big girl bed, a carseat etc...but that's boring! I feel bad because LO1 always got fun things, and we just bought the necessities as she needed them.
Do you tend to get your LO fun things for their birthday, things they need, or a mix of both? I'm thinking maybe a mix would work...like get her a pair of shoes and then a toy?

We did a mix for Christmas. For her birthday, we are doing a few toys and some clothes.

Always both! They just want to open boxes! My one year old was plenty excited to get shoes at Christmas! It was the only gift she picked up and walked all around with for the rest of the day. But....she's also a show lover.

I do a mix, but within reason - like, shoes or clothes or whatever I would give as a gift but not a new carseat.

I always do a mix. It helps that my LO absolutely LOVES shoes and clothes, so those definitely count as a "fun" gift for her. Maybe some of the other stuff would still be fun if you let her choose ahead of time (like choose a color for the carseat or something).

We just do fun stuff. A nightgown is the only clothes item we get for gifts but she loves them so is excited.

I do a mix. This year for first birthday we are doing clothes (she needs for spring/summer) and then something fun - a duel membership to the children's museum and zoo.

Mostly fun stuff (we do a mix at Christmas). I'll buy clothes, but it'll be clothes he's excited about (Thomas).
