Totally agree with you. Only the birthday kid should get gifts. Other children need to learn at some point that it's not always about them and that other kids get a special day too, just like them.

NO. My brother pulled that sh*t on us last year. My daughter was unwrapping her gifts and he gave his son some gifts to open, as well. Stupid, coddling behavior. @regberadaisy: you know my strong feelings on this.

I grew up with a family that lived behind us and they did this b/c "it's not fair". Maybe it's just because we really didn't like that family but they were just awful people. I mean, even as a young child I knew that the way they were raised was going to cause issues for the kids later in life. I won't even go into details. But yes, that's me, judging parental decisions from a young age.

We don't and won't do this. I don't understand the "left out" mentality. It's not that child's birthday, they are supposed to be left out! I'd definitely tell my in laws not to do that again.
