I feel like I posted this before but maybe not. Has anyone transitioned from always coloring their hair dark (covering greys on naturally dark hair) to a lighter color as they got more grey? My hair just doesn't seem to want to hold dark color anymore, and it's so obvious when it grows out. The ends that have been colored many times want to be light too, and I use the right shampoos (not to mention barely wash my hair anyways). My issue is stylists always seem to suggest highlights, which doesn't help as it grows out because it's not the same distribution of lightness as my hair. Plus I don't love that look on me and I definitely don't love the time and cost involved! Help! My appt is in a week. I should post a pic but my hair is so ugly.

Other thing I forgot to mention is I always preferred dark coloring on me. But it's just not staying like it used to

My mom dyes her hair more of a blonde/silver even though she was dark blonde.
I'd give it a try! See if you like it. I hear you. I have very dark hair and in the past when I've lightened it I looked very washed out.

@youboots: totally. It just doesn't feel me! But it's been getting so light even when I color it darker that I figure might try to embrace it! Worst case, I'll just go dark again.

@mrsbubbletea: This is me. As more and more silvers come in my hair will literally not hold anything darker than a light brown. If I want darker than a light brown, it has to be redone every 4 to 6 weeks, and that's with only washing it twice a week. It sucks but it is what it is

@mrsbubbletea: I think it looks great as is. Isn't it funny how we are so much more critical of ourselves? I vote try highlights especially since it's summer. FWIW when I start getting greys I'm not going to try and cover them. I always loved my Aunt and Grandmas white hair- I not so secretly hope I go all white. They both did after their first children and never dyed.

@youboots: I kinda like that picture, it has amazing lighting somehow. Haha. With my last pregnancy, I let it grow way out and I just got so over it. I would love to just let it be grey, not there yet. Maybe if I go lighter, it will be a natural transition for me! And yes, always more critical of ourselves than of others!

I think your current color is great, but you COULD also rock a light honey brown too!

You should keep the brown but add babylights to cover the gray.

What about auburn low lights? That would look pretty but I also think it looks good now!
