Last week, I was running late for LO’s 2.5 yr check up and had to reschedule the appointment, but thankfully the nurse agreed to still give him his flu vaccine. I’m going to get mine at the pharmacy this weekend or next week.

We are 2 for 2 at the moment. DH received his through the the Army reserves and DD gets hers through school every year. I made an appointment for DS to get his with his pediatrician; however, they are already out and waiting on a second shipment (* How does this happen?!?!? It is only early November.). As for myself, I forgot to request one at my last doctor visit so I'm hoping to get one when I go again in couple weeks. We get them every year.

We all have them now. DH and I got them at target - so easy and you get a $5 gift card.
DD's was a lot harder this year. We moved over the summer and have still not been able to find a pediatrician taking new patients (we've tried like 10 places). Target and other similar places can't do them for kids under 7. We have two CVS minute clinics that will give them to kids starting at 18 months but they were both out of the dose for DD's age group. Thankfully we found another drop in place, Convenient MD, that had the right dose.

@catgirl: I've never tried going to Target for my flu vaccine but have seen the commercials and have considered. Is it more expensive than a $15 copayment to the physician's office? Besides, an inoculation and then some shopping sounds quite pleasant!

We haven’t yet. It’s difficult because their doctor will only do infants and the pharmacies won’t do anybody under 5, so I’m not actually sure how to get them done - I might have to fight the doctor policies.

I got mine the first day they were available at my OBGYN. Scheduled an appointment for DS the next day at his pediatrician. DH went to the pharmacy to get his a few weeks later. With a newborn we weren’t taking any chances.

For those who are having issues with the pharmacies not doing them, my dd and I got ours done at a not crowded urgent care.. one that tends to have less wait. I paid $25 after insurance for the visit, totally worth it. Also, check if your pediatrician does "flu clinic" days- ours does them on certain Saturday mornings.
Had a newborn during last year's crazy flu season, don't want to take chances.

My kids got it early October bc my oldest is an October baby and at her annual checkup all the kids get it. We stopped by Target last weekend as a family to pick up something and I saw the pharmacy and signed us both up. There’s no way my DH would go by himself and I figured I’ll use the opportunity.
we got $5 each in Target gift card so winIt was free for us. Our insurance covers it no matter where we go so we try to find additional benefits like gift cards or points

@Bluemasonjar: I don’t know! She told me she gets a limited supply of the vaccine so she reserves it for infants. It’s very annoying.

I have. The doctor's office didn't have it for my 4 yr old during his appointment. He did get his 4 yr vaccinations at the time and couldn't get more until 4 weeks passed. DH will take both kids on Tuesday or Wednesday to get all of them their flu shots.

If you're having trouble finding shots for little ones, the health department is another option. That's where I had to take one of mine last month. It was actually our best flu shot experience. The nurse just does injections all day long every day, so she is a serious pro!

Kids have gotten theirs, but I couldn’t get mine because I had a steroid shot so they said I had to wait at least a week. I plan on going soon, and so does dh

All of us get it. It's non negotiable. We are around a lot of elderly and young babies. We want to do our part to be good members of the herd. We have a history of bad reactions to other vaccines and have to rely on the herd for protection against measles, so I feel like it's only fair we do our part with the flu

We’re watching the Daniel Tiger episode about getting a shot in preparation right now. We’re all going as a family to the ped’s flu clinic hours this afternoon. I like that they do the adults too so LO sees us doing it first and doesn’t feel singled out.

Yes! We always do. Last year our 7.5 month old came down with influenza and it was super scary. Luckily she had been given both doses of the flu vaccine, so her version ended up being pretty mild. Our doctor told us the kids she saw that were really sick were almost always the ones who hadn’t been vaccinated. The ones who had received the vaccine and still ended up sick had a mild case. That held true for us. It makes me sick to think about what might have happened if she had gotten the flu without having been vaccinated.
The rest of us, including our older daughter, never got the flu despite being around her every day.

@Iced Tea: yeah our County Health Department does a really good job with vaccines and I think they're free. No wait and really friendly with the kids.
Everybody got the shit in my immediate family now I will say my two-and-a-half-year-old seem to be in a lot of pain after it and wouldn't move his arm, but has had no complaints since that first hour. I can't convince my family (in-laws, sister) to, they just won't do that or the Tdap booster. -

If anyone has a Publix in their area, they give a $10 gift card for the shot as well! And most if all insurances don't require a copay for preventive services like the flu shot.

@peachykeen: Do they give it to small children? My son turns 4 next month and we have a Publix supercenter only a mile away. I would rather he receive his sooner than later. I don't wish to wait for his pediatrician to receive their refills.

@Kaohinani: This varies by state and store, so I'd call to check. Our state technically allows pharmacists to vaccinate all ages, but most stores won't vaccinate under age 2 just by their own policy.

Well, being pregnant I had to get it and the dtap one a few weeks ago. 6 year old is getting it Monday. Husband is getting flu and dtap Monday, as well.

We have Kaiser and they always do flu clinics. We just walk in and it’s free, but they don’t do children under 6 months. My three year old totally charmed all the nurses and invited them all to her birthday. It was hilarious.

All of us are vaccinated. After having the flu about 12 years ago I vowed never again to be so dumb to skip the shot. I felt like I was dying. So now, even if I get a strain of it, the fight is much easier for my body.

I got mine 3 weeks ago, DH and kids got theirs on Monday; I didn't ever get it except for when I was pregnant, but opted for it this year, better safe than sorry.

We've all gotten the shot. Last year's flu season was so awful, I'm nervous about this year.
@psw27: My sister got the flu last year, and it was brutal even with the shot. I can't imagine how much it would have sucked if she hadn't gotten it!

@MrsSCB: It was so painful, and I was very, very sick. And of course, I was a student so no one was there to care for me and my parents were 1500 miles away. I could hardly get up to get a glass of water. I can't imagine if my 18 month old went through that.

LO got hers about a month ago. I haven't gotten mine yet because I keep getting sick. Hopefully this week I'll be able to squeeze it in. I don't know if DH plans on it this year or not. Last year was the first year he'd gotten one and we all ended up with the flu anyway, so that may have discouraged him. Hopefully this years are more effective!

With a new baby due 12/2 we have a deadline for our family this year. DH and I got ours at our Publix pharmacy - no cost or copay and two $10 gift cards for us.
My only issue is that I 100% thought that they would be able to vaccinate LO (who is 5) with us since I didn't see restrictions on their website and the form didn't have restrictions. So we went through this whole thing about her getting it with us, etc. etc. and then she was ready and we show up and they don't vaccinate under 18 at pharmacies in FL. So a little bit of a fail on my part there since I felt like I stressed her (and all of us) out unnecessarily.
She was set to go last week to her ped. office but then got sick so we rescheduled for next week for her first dose. She'll get her second dose at her well check after 12/5.
