I think I could have been happy without kids. I never felt the overwhelming urge to procreate. I wasn't even sure I wanted kids when I got pregnant.

You don't miss what you haven't had, I guess.

I ask myself this question all the time especially since DH and I are dealing with infertility. I have always wanted to be a mother, so I don't think that I would ever be completely satisfied in my life if that doesn't happen. If we aren't able to have our own children, we will definitely try to adopt.

Nope. I always felt something was missing in my life until I had children.

Nope. I can say with 100% certainty that I would not have been satisfied with not becoming a mother. I love my husband but if he hadn't wanted kids that would have been a deal breaker for me.

However, that's just me. I don't think EVERYONE needs children to be satisfied in life. In fact, I never understand it when people try to convince others why they should have kids. Being a parent is hard and something you should only do if you have a strong desire for it!

I always envisioned being married and having kids. For a time there, it sort of disappeared when I was dating and had a bad babysitting experience. After I met DH and then married, the urge towards motherhood became more apparent. Waiting a couple years into marriage was good for us. I can't see a life without LO anymore. I still need to find a social knitting group, but otherwise, I'm happy with life with our baby and family. I'm totally ready for another one, but just have to get in better physical shape.

I should also mention that my husband is opposed to interventions, so if we couldn't get pregnant naturally, he wouldn't want to pursue medical interventions. That,for me, wasn't a deal breaker.

DH and I have spoken a lot about what we would do if we couldn't naturally conceive. Neither of us desire to pursue adoption. We would just be two happy people without kids! I love my DH so much and he and I have the best time together ever. Part of the reason we've put off having kids is because we are so happy with the current dynamic that we've been having for, oh, the last 11.5 years. But we do absolutely want kids. If its not in our cards, then we greive and move on with the happy life we have. (This comes from a person who obviously hasn't yet dealt with infertility so my response is obviuosly subject to change as my circumtances change.)

Nope, I had a need to be a mother, and if DH would have told me when we were dating he didn't want children it would have been a deal breaker (and actually was in a previous relationship. He had a child and didn't want another, I wasn't willing to sacarfice being a mother for love & we ended it for that reason.)

DH never thought he was going to get married/have children (we met when he was 32), he said he didn't realize his need to be a family man until we became serious.

Nope...For me, part of having a happy life and feeling fulfilled is being a mom. If we couldn't have kids with fertility treatments, we would adopt, for sure.

I wouldn't have been happy if I never became a mother (biologically or through adoption). Honestly, I felt more of a pull to be a mother than to be married.

I always knew I wanted kids. I have friends who don't feel that strongly, and I could see how they could feel satisfied without having children, but I don't think I would. Having children is something I have wanted ever since I was a young girl, and if I couldn't conceive naturally I would have pursued adoption.

This is an issue that raises questions for me and DH. Being a mom is the only thing I've ever been 100% certain I wanted to do in life. He wants kids but is a little torn because he also wants to have the money to retire (relatively) young and travel. So if we turn out to have fertility issues, I would want to pursue every possible means of having our own, and would want to adopt if that didn't work out. He, well, wouldn't. He is VERY money-conscious and since he doesn't feel like he MUST have kids, he wouldn't want to spend the money. I'm so, so, SO hoping things go well with TTC so we don't have to face that decision. It could wind up being a deal breaker but after 9 years together (we started dating at 19) I can't see life without DH. There really wouldn't be a truly happy ending if things go badly with our fertility.

I wouldn't be satisfied if I did not have kids. Ever since I was little ie imagined what it would be like to be a mom! And what my kids would look like! But..if I couldn't have them biologically I would adopt. Being a mom is more important than being a biological mom to me.

Having trouble TTC and adoption being so expensive, it comes up a lot between DH and I. We definitely think we would be fulfilled and happy without children.

No, I'd never feel/be fulfilled if I hadn't had children. I've wanted to be a mother for my entire life and it's brought a whole new purpose to my life that I didn't know I could even experience. If the man I fell in love with hadn't wanted children it would've been a deal breaker for me. Luckily DH wanted to raise children as much as I did.

I've wanted to be a mother since I was a little girl. I know I'd always feel like something was missing if I never had kids.

I've also always known that if I reached a certain age and was still single, that I'd pursue a sperm donor and become a single mom.

I've always wanted to be a mom. Since I can remember, it's been a huge non-negotiable part of my life. As others have mentioned, I felt more strongly about children than marriage.

i couldn't be happy without being a mother. but i know plenty of ppl dont feel the calling and i think it's perfectly normal! we don't all want the same things in life, parenthood isn't a choice for everyone!

i think before having kids i could have imagined having a fufilling life in other ways- travelling with DH, dedicating myself and my life to helping others, etc. however, now that i am a mom, i cannot imagine my life being fufilling without my LO. she is my entire life.
