Lol at all the milk bag stuff. It did surprise me when I first moved to Canada though.

@californiadreams: That article was funny. Vodka in bags would be good. Although I had wine in a bag in Australia

Milk in a bag?! I've never heard of such a thing!!

And what a rude comment. I don't think I would've been able to bite my tongue...

Milk in bags ... mind blown!

@swurlygurl: Cartons are actually recyclable, though, just not in all places yet. Communities just need to have the access added in order to recycle them. Other parts of the world, like Europe, are way ahead of us in carton recycling ...

@sunshineandsushi: This is true, but still bagged milk uses so much less plastic/material than a carton does too! Not to mention it saves on weight and space, making shipping require less resources and money!

@pui: I think there are pros and cons to both packaging options! For a gable-top carton, which is what refrigerated milk is packaged in, approx. 20% of the material is plastic, the rest is recyclable paperboard. And the plastic from cartons is also recyclable, but facilities need to exist in order to process it properly.

Is the plastic from the milk bags recyclable as well? If not, that's something to consider in terms of the waste byproduct, as plastic takes a looong time to decompose sitting in a landfill.

I know way too much about this topic, haha!

@sunshineandsushi: Yep, both the outside bag and the actual milk bag itself are recyclable! (at least in my area, not sure if that's the case everywhere in Canada)

Milk in a bag is an awesome idea!! Like buying in bulk but not needing to open it all at once. LOVE THIS.

love all the excitement about milk in a bag. canada does have cartons in the smaller quantities but i always get so grossed out by it because i feel like the top of the carton gets like... crusty. bags of milk are THE BEST. also didn't know what those things to cut them were called but i need to get my hands on em. we always had them growing up but now i just use scissors and i always cut the hole too big #canadianproblems

So I actually have seen milk in a bag, but only in schools like @Dandelion: said. The cafeterias, in So Cal anyway, serve milk to students in bags. It actually drives me crazy because the kids stab them with the straw then spill half the milk. I wish they had mini versions of that cool container thing @pui posted! I would totally buy a snippit from Canada to help them open it....... That would be awesome

@swurlygurl: Oh, yes! The key component right there! This is directly my bread and butter, so to speak. A huge part of my job is doing recycling education and public outreach campaigns to motivate residents to recycle more, not just cartons, in their curbside programs. I could go on and on about the subject!

@californiadreams: my mom exclusively had boxed wine when i was growing up (i'm canadian).
@travelgirl1: when i was in korea, there was a bar type thing at the side of the road that sold mixed cocktails in bags. literally in like... ziploc bags kinda. and you had to poke it with a straw. it was amazing!

I remember milk in bags fondly. I miss them. You can't get them here over on the western side of the country, for some strange reason!

The dude was totally rude and out of like and I would have wiped barf on him.

Ok, probably not, but what a JERK.

I would have definitely said something snarky back to him. Because you can clearly control when your son spits up. Jerk.
