We are just starting the process of looking to buy our first house. We have been going to open houses for the last couple of weekends to see what we can afford, and to see what we think we can and can't live with.

I originally thought that one of our must haves was having all the bedrooms on the same level. Since we have been looking at houses I realized that in the type of house we are looking to buy (townhouse) in our price range if all of the bedrooms are on the same level then the 2nd and 3rd bedrooms end up being really small.

We saw a house this weekend that has 3 big bedrooms with the master and 2nd bedroom on the 3rd floor and the 3rd bedroom on the 1st floor, with the living room, dining room, and kitchen on the 2nd floor. It's not my preferred layout, but I think we could live with it if we love everything else about the house.

We plan on having 1 or 2 kids, and the bedroom that is on the same level as the master is big enough for 2 kids to share for a while if we want them to.
