Is your house decorated? We have been living in our house for 3 years and the only rooms completely decorated are B and D bedroom. We are completing family room this year. Our house is over 5000 square feet.. I need to get my butt in gear..

decorated enough. We've been here 5 years so I've slowly decorated. I'm pretty happy with the main floor/living space. I think our bedroom is okay although I never got around to hanging anything on the wall our bed is on so thats sort of plain. LO's room is cute but otherwise nothing upstairs is decorated. I don't feel any real urgency about it.

I'd say yes though we still need some things to fill up a couple walls. Easier for us though because our house is only 1800 sq ft, and my mom can make us professional quality window treatments, pillows, bedding, etc. I wish I had her skills!!

Yes. But it's not too hard to decorate 850 sq feet
Eta: we've been in this apartment for five months. We don't do the whole "forever home" thing and I like a place to feel like home asap.
grapefruit / 4418 posts
It was... Now everything has been pretty much removed from the living areas so DD can roam free and safely explore!
wonderful grape / 20453 posts
Pretty much. I have projects I want to do-backsplash, can lighting, etc....and I'm always adding or rotating canvas photography. We've been here 7 years, though
eggplant / 11287 posts
Yes. Very. But I love to decorate and our house is only 1200 sqft.
cantaloupe / 6692 posts
Meh. It's okay. A few homey decorations here and there. This isn't our forever home and hopefully we're moving in 2ish years so I don't spend too much time or money on decorating.
grapefruit / 4817 posts
Quite a bit, but I need so much more furniture. I can never get myself to spend the money, though.
pomegranate / 3113 posts
Sort of, but not up to my standards. It's mostly just cluttered, which drives me nuts but DH and I are both messy so we just can't ever seem to keep it in shape. I can't get myself to really decorate if I know it's just going to look like a mess anyway, but at the same time, I think if it was better decorated we might be inspired to keep it up a bit more. I don't know. At any rate, I never want to spend the money to do what needs to be done so it's all a moot point until I can convince myself to open the wallet.

We have some finishing touches to do in a couple of rooms. Last week we finally installed window treatments in our family room that we love, but based on a couple HB comments it may look like it's the "before." lol One of our extra bedrooms will be left undone for a long while until we actually need to utilize the room.
@BandDmommy: do you have a vision or game plan for all the rooms at least?
pomelo / 5607 posts
We've moved a lot, and we don't like to hold off on decorating. Our second apartment we had literally everything unpacked and pictures hung, etc within 3 days of moving in. That was a little faster than average, but we don't waste time either.

No, but we close on Thursday, and I can't wait! New furniture and decor delivery begins Friday!

Does kids toys count as decorated? Like you the kids rooms are the best looking for sure.
honeydew / 7444 posts
More or less. I'm working on the kids' rooms this week. I don't believe in decorating all at once upon moving in, but i also dislike empty houses!
hostess / wonderful honeydew / 32460 posts
nope! the house is completely furnished, but not decorated.
pomelo / 5678 posts
For sure. I actually think it really important. It is a work in progress, but I am constantly considering how to better it. I practice feng shui and always have before I even knew that's what I was doing. I spend a lot of time home with LO and the better I can make my space, the better I feel my life improves (can improve).
I have lots of art, plants, carefully considered furniture. I'd love to have unlimited budget for it, but you know- that's life, and that's (one of) the (many) point(s).
honeydew / 7622 posts
Yes, slowly. I need to order some large prints for the main level, which I will do when we get our newborn photos backs. Our master bedroom needs some items hung. I'd love to get a new couch, but ours is so comfortable. M needs a nice desk. But I'm happy with it overall. It's a work in progress.

Kind of? We've been in our house for 2 years and it's come a long way this past year! Still has some blank spaces though
bananas / 9227 posts
@BandDmommy: No It's taking so long, it's getting embarrassing! The funny thing is, I actually have a few things I can put on the walls (like a huge mirror I snagged ages ago and recent watercolors I acquired) but we just haven't come around to it
bananas / 9973 posts
Sort of! It's been a slow progress over the course of 3+ years. But since having LO, it's been more of clutter control working around all her stuff.
pineapple / 12566 posts
@hotchildinthecity: @Greentea: Same feelings here! Our place is on the smaller side (about 1500 sq ft), and it's definitely not a forever home, but I cannot stand to live in a place that feels undone or temporary.
Our walls are decorated as much as they can be and I feel like it feels mostly put together. There are always little things that I like to tweak and adjust, but on the whole, I'm pretty satisfied. The next project is to change out the master bedding and I will feel a lot more satisfied when that is done.
wonderful pear / 26210 posts
It's a work in progress, I feel that decoration happens organically and changes over the years. I am always rearranging, tweaking, changing things out to suit our changing lifestyle.
My problem is that I am cheap. I think you can absoultely have a decorated house if you're willing to spend the money, but I am not, so it takes time!
clementine / 911 posts
We're working on the nursery right now, so that room looks like a construction zone. The other rooms are all mostly decorated but still need some paint and finishing touches. The kitchen, living room, and dining room are all one big open space, and it's the most finished.
eggplant / 11716 posts
@looch: that's us! (or rather, my husband). He's super cheap and it's painful for him to spend money, so we decorate verrrrrrryyyyy slowly and buy one thing at a time, and space them out a lot!
We still have our whole bedroom to do (I want a new headboard, side tables, and a new curtain and rug), and in the living room I want a rug and a new dining table.
grapefruit / 4085 posts
For the most part but I'm always changing things up with new finds - I like to keep things fresh. We haven't done the family room yet bc we want to repaint and get carpet this summer. There's a spare bedroom that's just sitting there too with the door closed for now.
kiwi / 728 posts
Haha no! We moved into our new house when LO was 6 weeks old and she is now 10 months old and I am just starting to decorate! Our family room is done and most of LO room, but we haven't painted or anything yet. Work in progress......want to tackle the dining room next.
watermelon / 14467 posts
Most rooms are decorated. I need to paint the kitchen and get more decor for that room and also finish the edging in the master bedroom before I hang anything else up in there.
honeydew / 7230 posts
Downstairs, yes, although it's certainly not the pinnacle of stylish decor. The spare bedrooms upstairs and the finished basement are just a mishmash of extra furniture and blank walls. Honestly, I'm not great at decorating and it's just not a huge priority for me so I'm ok with it.
pomelo / 5258 posts
Oh no, if we were getting grades for decorating I would get an F. We almost nothing up except two decorations from LO1s first birthday.... and she just turned 2. Other than that we've hung one picture. That was a major ordeal. We made need therapy. We have issues.
pomegranate / 3053 posts
Our was slightly smaller (3 levels) and I found it so hard to decorate, especially after we had kids. I wish we spent more time on it before we had kids. Hopefully after we move back and the kids are older we can actually do something with the plain white walls. We hung a few things then but that was about it. Totally boring...
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
Not really... All our walls are bare after living in it for almost 2 years. I've only been able to commit to putting something up on 1 wall all this time! Only DD's room has wall prints & decals!
GOLD / wonderful olive / 19030 posts
When we first moved in almost 5 years ago I decorated right away with the help of my mom, now I have been slowly re-decorating each room a little at a time to be more my style. My kitchen, guest bath, the girls' rooms are all done. I did a little decorating in the living room recently, so I'm happy with the wall art, but I want a new entertainment center, new carpet, it needs a fresh coat of paint, ect. to be done. Master bedroom I want new bedding and new paint.
persimmon / 1071 posts
@BandDmommy: Most of our house is decorated, the one room completely done is the bathroom. We have lived in our house for about 10 months and have done a ton of work on it, so it's a work in progress.
pineapple / 12802 posts
Kinda? I am slowly adding pieces here and there. We still have a lot of furniture from when we lived on our own; hand me down stuff that needs to be replaced, eventually.
I just bought a few pieces for our main living area and I'm starting to feel like it's almost complete, with the exception of a few needed art pieces!
nectarine / 2784 posts
Hardly.. the only complete room is the baby's room (and I'm sure she really appreciates it ). Everything is painted and furnished, it's a matter of wall hangings and other decorative touches.
