Ha, I can relate. We rarely hear from my in laws without contacting them first. Once it was about two months because my husband refused to always be the initiator, and he still gave up and called them. I talk to my mom nearly every day but rarely to other family members.

About a day! But I talk to my mom multiple times a day. My husband's mom would probably go a week or two if he hadn't contacted her.

A week tops. But my husband and his parents have gone at least a month. It's fucking weird.

A couple days. My mom and I text almost daily. DH talks to one of his parents nearly daily. I don't talk to my parents on the phone more than weekly or every other week.

My dad's relationship with his mom is similar to your DH's family. We also take bets when we call her as to how long the conversation will be. Doesn't matter if we haven't spoken in months, the convo only last 2-1/2 minutes. Same when my dad talks to her. Weirdness.

For my parents, a couple of days. Once my brother didn't answer my mom's calls for four days and she drove to his house and climbed his fire escape to look in his window and see if he was ok. My father-in-law and step mother-in-law, we went six weeks after Christmas because we were mad that they never made an effort to contact us, it was always our job, and they....didn't make an effort. It's tough because I always break down and call them because I want the boys to have a relationship with them. My mother-in-law and step father-in-law, it's been....a long time. I think the last time we heard from them she said she was going to come visit (for the first time ever) and was next weekend good, and we said no because that was when my c section was scheduled for. That was 13 months ago.

If I didn't reach out to my mom she would probably contact me after 2 weeks. I don't think we've ever gone more than 2 weeks (and we usually text several times a week if not daily).
My dad probably texts me like once a month or so, so I think it would be the same if he didn't hear from me.

My husband pretty much never initiates contact with his parents and I'd say his mom texts him at least twice a week (which he finds highly annoying) and his dad pretty much never.

@skipra: Not usually, but sometimes they'll make comments about wanting to stay in touch more and I guess they just don't see the irony.

@skipra: my husband says that when he moved to college they just rarely called him and he never initiated the calls. I'm just dumbfounded by it. I can't imagine not talking at least once a week to my kids.
There are a whole lot of communication issues in that family.

My mom and I text daily. I think she would be concerned if I didn't respond after a day.
My dad works 4/4, we usually text by his second day off.

I usually talk to my mom daily and see my parents probably twice a week, so if they'd tried to get in touch and I hadn't responded within 24 hours, or if I'd made no contact maybe in 48 hours, I think they'd be worried!

DH's mom vacillates between calling him every day and then calling me if she can't reach him, and making a point of not calling for a week or so and then giving him a huge guilt trip for not being in touch when he finally reaches out. (He's not usually intentionally ignoring her, he's just busy and she will keep him on the phone forever.)

It is foreign to me that people go months without talking to their parents unless they're estranged!

I walk to my mom about once a week and if we go longer, she doesn't reach out but makes a big deal about it the next time I call her. Like, she'll be all huffy and say "it's been 11 days since we talked." DH also speaks to his parents about once a week and I think if it stretched to two weeks, they'd call.

2-4 wks for my mom and 1 day for the in laws.

Dh talks to his parents daily, I do not.

I text or talk to my mom and mil every day. They would contact me after 2-3 days tops if they didn't hear from me.

DH and I can go months without talking to our dads. My dad just isn't very talkative. In person our relationship is fine. My DH's parents are divorced and he saw his dad once a year. Their relationship is pretty awkward.

I talk to my dad usually every week, sometimes every 2 weeks. He calls if he doesn't hear from me after 2 weeks. Sometimes it's on purpose, and sometimes it's because we have a 7 hour time difference, so it can be difficult to coordinate. My DH talks to my ILs at least once a week, sometimes more often, but they are in the same time zone. I think they would definitely call if they didn't hear from him after a week. That said, I don't think it's that weird that in some adult child-parent relationships the parties don't speak often.

Hmm....it could be 2-3 weeks with my mom. Some weeks we call every day and then we get busy and call leas often.

Dh used to talk to his parents every day but they retired and are so busy now with activities, they can go a week or two now.

My mom would probably drive an hour from her house to mine if we went over a day without talking We text or call each other at least once a day, but usually twice. I usually see my dad every week and we also have a family text group going with my siblings but no one is a big chatter like my mom.

My ILs don't call us ever. DH initiates all contact and requests for visits. He talks to them via text or phone maybe once a month or every two months.

My dad no more than 5-7 days. My mom 2 weeks especially if our last conversation was not all that pleasant.

I talk to my mom 1-2x/week I would say. Usually by email or text and then I call her every couple of weeks. I haven't talked to my Dad since January probably, and he hasn't tried to contact me during that time. We don't have a very close relationship but when we do talk it's fine.

I talk to my mom most days. I think if I went more than 2 days without calling she'd call me.

My husbands family doesn't chat. They mostly only talk on bdays/holidays. If he didn't call though I doubt they would. His dad would prob go 4-6 mo without getting in contact. His mom prob 3-4mo.

3 days max would be strange to not hear from our moms. Our dads, well not as often, my dad is not a phone talker so I rarely talk to him on the phone and DH's dad is the same, but we keep in touch frequently and we like to see our parents at least every other week if not every week (we are within 15 minutes of each other so this is possible.)
