So we really like the name Max and DS is calling baby that (he had been calling him Purple, so this is definitely an improvement). My dilemma is that I don't typically love short names so I'm inclined to go with a "proper" name like Maxwell, which I'm not a huge fan of but prefer to Maximilian, Maxim or Maximus. I liked Maddox (nn Max) but DH thought it was too Brangelina. Any suggestions/thoughts on Max v. Maxwell or other potential names?

I like Max as a name on it's own and am typically a big believer in naming a child what you intend to call them.
Of all the full names I do prefer Maxwell, though.

Max or Maxwell. Maddox is a bit Brangelina now but when he's in school I'm sure it won't be so I wouldn't worry about that, it's not like people will tease him.

Also a possibility as a proper name is Maxandre ( like Alexandre) it's not unusual in France. -
I like Maddox. You could even do malcolm. Are there any M names you love? If you did a middle name that ends in X like Alex or Felix, then Max could be a cool portmanteau nickname.

If Max is what you both love and you would only use that anyway, I would just call him Max!

Well, my son has a "nickname" as his name so my opinion might be biased, but I think that Max is fine on its own.

Max is a great name all by itself. I like Maxwell too though.

I love Max on its own. I am considering using Max since it sounds better with our last name than any of the longer versions. Maxwell is my favorite from the other names.
