I know I make less, because it didn't occur to me to try to negotiate my starting salary. Argh!

ETA: I work for the federal govt, so we're split up into pay grades and steps - people freely discuss their grade, but their step is more personal (but occasionally it comes up).

I know that I make the same, because I work(ed) for a rather large company (also male-dominated) and there was a pretty rigid salary and bonus system. Granted, I have no idea if there were any sexist managers fighting for bigger bonuses for their favorite male employees?
From what I can tell though, men and women in my field make the same.

I work in a union so everyone gets paid the same. Both good and bad to that.

Well I'm in a weird situation because DH and I own our company and neither of us get paid in salary, we take dividends. This year I got paid more, but last year DH got paid more lol.

I can't really compare my income to my coworkers' either because of that. They all get paid based on their experience and how long they've been with us. Right now they're all male, but we'd pay a female employee the same way.

One of my very good friends at work left the company a few years ago. When I was thinking that I might be underpaid, I decided to just ask him how much he made when he left the company. I found out he was making more THREE YEARS PRIOR to what I was making. Meaning at the time, he was making almost $12,000 more than me!

We were hired the same day into the same program. We had the same amount of work experience and had the same manager for the entire time we both worked at the company. The only TRUE difference between us was our internships prior to starting at the company, the colleges we went to as undergrads (we got our Master's at the same school and had almost the same GPA), AND the fact that he's a man.

Not exactly. I work for the federal government and we're on a strict grade and step scale. I had a different experience than @beaker in that there was no room for salary negotiations for my agency -- it was take it or leave it. I was promoted one grade after a little over a year, which is standard with acceptable job performance, but now just go up steps on the published schedule. Several of the other attorneys in our program do make more than me, both male and female, but it's because they've been there longer. When I get to the same length of service they're at now, I'll be at the same grade/step as they are now (though they'll have moved up steps by then so in absolute terms, they'll still be making more...but on relative terms, everything is equal).

There are no men at my level at my company. We get based on years experience, so gender has nothing to do with salary.

@PurplePeony: in my field, you have to get a security clearance. My coworker negotiated after his was approved, saying that having the clearance was an additional qualification (which was true - if he was clearable he could easily get a job with a contractor and they would be out the 50k a clearance costs). In general I think the grades are pretty set but the steps can very widely for initial offers.
