do you feel comfortable having a glass of wine or a beer with dinner? If you don't drink, would this make you feel uncomfortable if you were a guest in someone's home and the host was having a glass of wine?
In this scenario the people abstaining from alcohol don't do so for any religious/moral reasons.

I don't drink simply because I don't really like the taste and I like to use my calories for food haha. It doesn't bother me at all when others drink, it would bother me more if people weren't drinking just because I wasn't. When we have people over I always offer beer/wine/cocktails.

I would not abstain just because they don't drink. Their morals are not my problem. Sorry (not sorry) if that sounds harsh. I would reconsider if they were alcoholics. Then, I might at least feel bad. But I'd probably still have a glass of wine if I wanted it.

The only issue I can see is if they were alchoholics, then I would feel uncomfortable. Otherwise wine 0' clock!

I don't drink and it wouldn't offend me if the people hosting me drank unless they got sloppy drunk or something like that. I also don't offer alcohol at my house because we just don't have it and I'm not about to buy it to appease someone who prefers to drink with dinner.

I also would not abstain because they don't drink. I'd serve wine to myself and whomever else may want a glass. Knowing some guests may not drink I'd make sure to have other options besides water such as iced tea and Pellegrino.

My MIL does not drink for religious reasons (although my FIL and BILs do drink a little bit). We still serve and drink it and I don't feel bad about it. I make sure to have tea or sparkling cider for her.

My BFF doesn't drink much because she doesn't like the taste of most things. She's completely fine if we drink in front of her at a meal.
If it were someone like @Jackiedavis87: said - an alcoholic, I absolutely wouldn't drink in front of them.

I'm not a big drinker (hate wine) but have absolutely no issue with someone drinking. I'd only think it appropriate to abstain if someone was an alcoholic.

We have family that are recovering alcoholics. I usually don't drink in front of them at all. Otherwise, if someone was abstaining from alcohol for another reason, I'd probably still drink.

I don't worry about either of those scenarios. I don't drink much at all (maybe like a few times per year) and I have no issue when others drink around me. I also know people who abstain for various reasons and on the rare occasions that I do have a drink while I'm with them, I don't really think much of it and I don't think they do either.

I still would in my own home. And for a couple friends who I know were (recovered/sober) alcoholics, they also didn't mind drinking in front of them at all, but that's my personal experience (and I asked them flat out!)

Dh and I don't drink and we are fine when others drink... It's only uncomfortable when someone tries to force us to drink. I have an uncle who would mix drinks and put them in front of me even after I declined and explained I don't drink....that's awkward and rude.

I don't drink and my husband does. I never really thought of anyone thinking to not drink in front of me. I might be annoyed if everyone got drunk but a glass of wine or beer to me is no different than juice or pop!

Unless someone is an alcoholic, I don't feel weird drinking in front of them. My husband doesn't drink, and he does not care when I or anyone else drinks around him.

If none of our guests drank I probably wouldn't either. I mostly just have a drink socially so it probably wouldn't even cross my mind to have one. But if other guests were drinking then i definitely would!

@skipra: That is exactly what I was going to say. I wouldn't even think to have a drink if no one else was drinking. I like wine etc but really only drink socially. So I guess I wouldn't since it'd seem funny drinking by myself while everyone abstained. But I don't see a problem with it if you wanted to.

Hopefully, I figure out the guests are not planning to drink before I open a bottle of wine at home because then it's a water-only night for me. I don't mind drinking in front of others that don't drink, and may do so if I were at a restaurant where I can just buy a glass of wine.

I don't drink and I don't mind when others do. We have drinks in our home because our family and friends brought it for us. So, we have something to offer people when they come. I don't judge people who drink, but I'm often judged for choosing not to.
