Recently I got my daughter two whale sweatshirts from mini Boden for her birthday. She refuses to wear either of them she will look at them and say whale but cry hysterically whenever I put them on her she doesn't refuse to let me put any other clothes on her including big fluffy dresses and regular jeans. Thoughts?

What happens if you show her a non-sweatered whale?
Any whale related books or shows she's seen? Could she just be afraid of whales? -
Also, she's nearly two. It's the year of "perfectly reasonable", aka nothing makes sense as to why they protest.

@littlejoy: I think she just sensed these were different or special clothes. Normally I just wash and hang things. This time I tried on for size. To see if she could wear them for photos. #momfail

My two year old just did this. I love my FSU shirt. It was dirty one day and we talked about going to get a new one (he's almost outgrown it anyways). So yesterday I got him a new one and gave it to him this morning and he ran away crying. I asked him why and he just said not that one and he says I should take it back. Ugh.
I think in his mind he likes his shirt. This was a similar but different variation which in toddler world means completely opposite

oh gosh! What a sweet little stinker. Getting shirts on my DD is a struggle in general (also 2). She most often runs around the house shirtless, wearing only pants. A recent low is when I put her coat on her bare chest and put her shirt on when we got to daycare because I knew she wouldn't fight me on it there.

If you interrupted play time to put them on, she might just not want to deal with that at the moment. Like, if you wouldn't usually try clothes on at that time, it could totally be that she senses it's different. I'd try tomorrow when you'd normally get her dressed.

May she thinks they are scary (?). Kids can have randoms phases...

So DH came home today after being out of town and put one on without issue.

Update- I won't have to sell them. I think trying them on downstairs stressed her out I just hung them last night and put it on with no problem this morning

My LO gets weird hang-ups about certain clothes. One pair of PJs she decided she just HATED and there was literally no reason because they were just like several others she had. I could never figure it out so I just didn't push it.
