The Hemnes still feels like a solid bed when pulled out to a king. I've slept on a pop- up trundle once or twice and felt like it was going to fall to the ground every time I turned! We purchased two 5" Memory Foam mattresses and just stack them when it's a daybed.

We will probably purchase a king size topper to use for future guests just because the memory foam mattresses are a bit hard in my opinion, but that's the mattress and not the bed!

For older guests...would they really want to use it as a king sized bed? It could be difficult for the person on the "inside" to get in and out of a daybed style king sized bed.

If looking for something for older guests, I might look for the type of daybed where you have a separate pop up trundle that can be pulled away from the main bed so it's easier to get in and out.

@HappyBaker: That would probably work if they're shorter, but it would still be a bit awkward to have to scoot down to get out of bed (or maybe I'm just really short...but I tend to get in/out closer to the head of the bed)

@HappyBaker: we have it with 2 thin ikea mattresses (i believe the recommended ones) and a topper (not that expensive) and while I think it’s totally fine for my 3yo I don’t like sleeping on it when he needs comfort. And that’s doubled up with a topper! We’re planning to get a real mattress eventually as he gets bigger.
