So even though we aren't even trying yet, I POAS'd (? what is the past tense of POAS??) yesterday - of course negative. I've been waiting for my period to arrive since Saturday or so and as soon as I let my husband know, he made me take one, even though there was virtually zero chance it could come out to be positive. Although I've been off the pill since May, we have been using protection. I was actually extremely surprised at how disappointed I felt with the appearance of one lonely line even though I said out loud that I wasn't ready for it to turn positive yet. So that's my first experience of a very premature POAS! I can already tell what an emotional rollercoaster this whole experience is.

Thanks, everyone, for your sweet messages, I'm really happy to be back on HB posting and stuff!

@Jojogirl How did you go about finding an acupuncturist? I'd like to try it but no clue how to go about finding one in NYC (that isn't super-sketchy or whatever)

@Rachel I didn't know I got a BFP either until several hours after I started my period. I POAS first thing in the morning, then immediately afterwards saw how heavily I was bleeding and threw the test into the garbage without even looking at it. Went digging through the trash four hours later and there it was, positive. Yeeeesh.

@Alivoo01 Thanks! I'm feeling a lot better about everything now that I've made the appt, although the day that I called and made it, I just cried and cried and felt so sad. But now I feel better. I really hope it happens for you soon, I'm sure it will!

@aprk Thanks, same to you for a healthy and easy pregnancy, congrats!!

@sslm This sounds really creepy but I always stalk your (and the rest of the charters) chart on the Charter thread, really hoping this month is the one for you!!!

    @Trailmix: UUGH bummer!! So sorry

I found her through a friend who used her to get preggo at 38 with no other interventions, then to induce her labor when she was really uncomfortable I always said when i a) found a partner and b) was ready to ttc, I'd call her right away! Well her baby just turned 7 this week and here we are!

    @JHoller: ok will do

@Mrs. Blue: Would you mind changing mine to 7/27? It turns out my sister is coming to live with us for a few weeks on Saturday, and I'd like to know either way before then (mostly because I'm pretty sure I'm getting BFN and I'd like to get over the grumpiness before she gets here lol). Hopefully one day won't make a difference

@Bookworm: I feel the same way.

I just know that I'm not pregnant. I've felt this way almost the whole TWW. I tested yesterday at 10-12 DPO (not exactly sure when I O'd) and got a no. I wasn't surprised but it still made me sad. I'm probably not going to test again. I'll just wait for Diablo it all its glory to show up. Even though I'm not officially out . . . on to August!

Can I ask you guys another OPK question (sorry)?

I'm using the cheap dollar tree tests until they start fading in, then will switch to digital. Yesterday (CD11) it was stark white, and today I think I saw a faint line. For people who've used the cheapie strips, is the fade-in pattern pretty consistent? And if so, how long does it take to go from first faint line to positive? I'm not sure if I should switch to digital today or wait a few days, and more importantly, if this should be our indication to kick BD into high gear? Is it usually like 3 days between first faint line and positive or 10 days?

  14. sslm

    cantaloupe / 6397 posts

@JoJoGirl: As far as I know, not everyone gets the fade in pattern so it's really hard to answer your question!! I would just wait until the line gets pretty dark.

@Mrs. Blue: I'm sorry to hear that! Fingers crossed for August!

    I'm 6DPO and just waiting

  16. kentuckygirl

    pear / 1786 posts

@JoJoGirl: I have had some cycles where the fade in is pretty quick & others where it is slower. I just keep using the cheapies until the second line gets close to matching the control line, then I use a digital to confirm if it is positive or not. Sorry if this is gross, but I use a Dixie cup to collect my sample, try my cheapie test, wait to see if it looks positive, if it is close I use the same sample that is still in my cup and use a digital. I have been able to stretch 14 digital tests over 8 cycles TTC. I hope that makes sense.

  17. JoJoGirl

    cantaloupe / 6206 posts

@kentuckygirl: Haha not gross! In an ideal world I'd have like 5 days of notice before i get a smiley face, but it sounds like I'd just need to get the CBE Fertility Monitor for that. Thanks!!

  18. Grace

    cantaloupe / 6730 posts

@JoJoGirl: kentuckygirls idea sounds best to me. In my whole three months of trying the darn things, I have only had 2-3 days of faint lines before it goea stark white again (and last month it was a pretty dark neg). So, I would guess that it'll be soon, but take my guess with a grain of salt because they do hate me.

@Jojogirl Honestly, if $ isn't a huge issue, I say invest in the monitor. It has taken away ALL the guesswork and ALL the stress surrounding ovulation...I'm very happy that I got it!

    cantaloupe / 6206 posts

@Grace: Awesome, thanks - I think I just have to see what my 'pattern' is with the non-digitals. My temp dropped today so I'm expecting the line will be darker and hopefully positive tomorrowish. Which would be way better than late next week!

@Trailmix: I probably should just suck it up and get one! I keep putting it off!

@Mrs. Blue: Any sign of Diablo??

I think I get to join you ladies! I will be POAS August 5th!!!

  26. Bookish

    GOLD / cantaloupe / 6581 posts

Well today totally threw me off. I started temping about a week or so ago, which was about 2 weeks after my first period off of BC. I figured since I got my period right away, that perhaps I was ovulating normally and estimated it at about 2 weeks ago. Hence the POAS date that I gave...but today when I put in my temperature it says I ovulated a couple days ago. So now I'm super confused. Diablo is due in a few days, so that should clear it up..but I don't want to get my hopes up!

  27. Grace

    cantaloupe / 6730 posts

@Bookworm: My understanding is that it's normal to have weird cycles off BC. Also since you started temping after when you think you O'd, the chart might just be confused. Do you have a link?

  28. Bookish

    GOLD / cantaloupe / 6581 posts

Yeah, I was thinking that it might be confused.. It's my first cycle TTC and I'm so stressed out about it all... let's see if this link works..

    @JoJoGirl: Nope. Nada. Nothing.

  30. JoJoGirl

    cantaloupe / 6206 posts

@Bookworm: That's probably around the same time I ovulated my first cycle off birth control - my cycle was 34 days long and luteal phases are pretty standard 10-14 days, so I'm guessing I ovulated around CD20 like you. I wasn't temping or using OPKs or anything but looking back at the end of such a long cycle, it makes sense it would've taken long to ovulate. Don't expect Diablo for another week or so, I think!

  31. Bookish

    GOLD / cantaloupe / 6581 posts

@JoJoGirl: Thank you for the insight It was a bit optimistic of me to assume I would ovulate normally the first go-round! Of course, that new ovulation date is smack dab in the middle of the least-BD-part of the month! Lol! Figures! I suppose I'll just have to be patient. Darn.

  32. JoJoGirl

    cantaloupe / 6206 posts

@Bookworm: That's EXACTLY what happened to me!! I timed it so I went off BC two weeks before we went on a big vacation and were BDing our pants off all week. Then we got home and went back to work and didn't bd AT ALL M-F and looking back, I'm pretty sure I Od on Friday of that week and didn't have a chance at all that first month That's why I jumped right to OPKs month two, I was so confused!

@Trailmix: I'm really sorry to hear about your CP. I know that going to the RE is a bit scary (DH and I had our first appt back in March), but I bet you will be relieved when you get some answers to your LP issues. Those RE's really know what they are doing! Wishing you all the best!

I also think acupuncture is great - not only for helping with fertility issues, but mine really helped reduce my stress levels. Mine is a fertility specialist that works at a practice in my town and has a masters degree in Oriental Medicine. Also, in my state (WI), the state itself licenses acupuncturists, so you may check into that, too.

@sylvie_b Thanks for the encouragement, I needed that today! Hoping August is your month!!

@Greenthumb Thanks so much, I'm hoping our RE can help, we'll see how the first appt goes...also thanks for the info on acupuncture, I'm going to bring it up at my apt and see if the dr has a rec!

  35. Grace

    cantaloupe / 6730 posts

@Bookworm: Your temps are jumping around so much, that I wouldn't be too sure of anything. As you get more data in the chart, it could even move your O-date.

  36. Bookish

    GOLD / cantaloupe / 6581 posts

@Grace: Yeah, it being the first week or so of it, I could be reading WAY too much into all of it. Hopefully in the next week or so it'll be more obvious what's going on. And hopefully next month I'll get the swing of all this so I don't freak out quite as much

  37. Silva

Yikes all this waiting is difficult! I've had some months where I ovulate mid-month, right around day 14, and other months where I ovulate as late as day 18, so mostly I keep track of CM for a clue. Our plan this month was to just start BD when I got anything that looked remotely like fertile CM. Yesterday, which is only day 11 for me, my CM was probably creamy but it did have a watery consistency, so we decided to start "baby dancing" daily until I get a temp rise.

An earlier ovulation would be wonderful, but I keep second guessing myself about the signs- we're going to be very tired in a week if I still don't have my temp spike!

Also, I'm not really used to posting on forums like this, but its helpful to have a place to "release the crazy."

So I just threw up my breakfast this morning... I'm feeling hopeful! Weird how something as awful as throwing up might actually be a good sign in this case! I was ready to whip out the HPT right afterwards (my TWW is over on Sunday), but then I decided to wait a bit longer. I might test tomorrow morning when DH is home... cuz I'm impatient and can't wait til Sunday!!
