@macintosh: Good luck tomorrow! Fingers crossed! My husband was there with me during our transfers, but the room was pretty tight. It was comforting to me to have him there. Only tip is don't drink too much water- a 20 ounce bottle is enough, no need to torture yourself! My nurse said start drinking 75 mins before transfer, and drink 16-20 oz. over the next fifteen mins. It's always been plenty for me, with minimal discomfort.

@Jenn23: Yay!! Congrats! Lots of ultrasounds early next week going on:)
@mrswin: I am so glad you have said that about the progesterone. My clinic never got one since my BFP which had me worried but I have had no spotting and my progesterone before transfer was good so I was thinking they weren't worried but in the back of my head I was wondering if it was an oversight? But I had 2 betas so you think they would have drawn it then if they wanted it.
@macintosh: Good luck tomorrow my dear! Praying everything goes smoothly. I had no idea that it was the norm some places to not have partners in the room for transfers! Never crossed my mind. My husband was in the room holding my hand which I needed! Hope your DH can be in the room too:) They had me not use the restroom before transfer but there wasn't a need for a full uncomfortable bladder either.
@Jenn23: Yay!! Congrats! Lots of ultrasounds early next week going on:)
@momazon- I've been thinking of you, how are you doing?
AFM... on the mend still. Feeling a lot better. Lost about 6 of the 13 pounds gained. My stomach is still huge and looks like I am 6 months pregnant which stinks, it is literally impossible to hide so even though I am feeling well enough to leave the house finally fI don't want to out of fear I will run into someone I know. My family is going on vacay in a couple days so it will be nice to get away and not worry about running into people I know. I'll just own the belly and let people think I am further along than I am haha. Stupid OHSS.

@macintosh: Good luck today!! Can't wait to hear all about it!! Our first IVF in 2012, my husband was with me. Then my clinic moved to a bigger building last year and now has a different OR restriction policy and nobody but staff and patients are allowed past certain doors, so my husband couldn't be with me this time for the transfer. I was upset when I found out about it, but it was just fine. I definitely missed having him there, but nothing we could do about it. I can't wait to hear how it goes. Good luck!! Definitely agree with not needing to drink the entire water amount that they say. I drank about 2/3 the amount of water and didn't start chugging too much of it until closer to transfer time.

@macintosh: good luck with today's transfer!
@Jenn23: woohoo! Awesome betas!
Sorry I haven't checked in very much. DH & I had our WTF/IVF consult. After speaking with the RE, DH & I feel comfortable with continuing with IUI and the protocol the office is suggesting. The RE does believe that I have a very good chance with IUI as I did get pregnant before on my first IUI. He also suggested acupuncture in conjunction with the fertility meds to help with some of the side effects as he has some patients have good outcomes using both modalities of treatment. This however may change pending DH's Kruger test results which may fast track us to IVF. DH will be getting the test done today! Thank you for the support this far ladies!

@momazon, @Mrs.Pinecone316, @Jenn23, @lazypanda, @FliegepilzHut: thank you all for the well wishes!
ET day was pretty stressful, but it's done! First, DH was exhausted and had to wake up early. Then we had to drive to downtown Chicago right during rush hour, and he almost got carsick. We made it, but 20 mins late.
Luckily it was not a problem. I sat in the room with DH and my full bladder for 20 minutes. Then I overheard the nurse in the hallway saying that my RE wasn't there yet. I was dying, so they let me release a specimen cup of urine only, which was very uncomfortable! Then the doc showed up and we got started, but my bladder was still too full and I had to do another partial release. Ugh!
But my RE transferred one perfect blast! We had one ready to freeze today, and a few more that they will keep until tomorrow. Hopefully we will have 4-5 more to freeze tomorrow.
DH declined to go into the procedure room, which was probably for the best. He was still very sweet and supportive and I was glad to have him there. RE said no exercise til after my beta in 10 days.

@swedishfish: If you don't mind my asking, did you and your husband know you'd need PGD before you started IVF? I'm not sure if insurance will cover everything since we haven't tried for 12 months even though we already know ahead of time about it, my MTHFR mutation, and that basically every specialist I see thinks IVF is the best way to proceed
I'm wondering because we are as far as I know not infertile but I've been on BC for over a decade so I have no clue if I actually can ovulate. My periods were very irregular before I started the pill. I ask because I take several medications that are contraindicated in pregnancy, so going off the pill is not ideal for me except to do the stims.
We decided we don't want to take our chances and try naturally because of my health and our genetic disorder. A potential affected baby and termination (please don't judge, I hate to even think about it but the affected baby would suffer so much, if it survived) would devastate me psychologically, hence IVF and PGD.
@macintosh: how exciting. Fingers crossed for a sticky baby. I remember your story from WeddingBee & at the risk of sounding like a stalker, I'm so happy to see you and your husband doing well and trying for baby! You were both in my prayers.

@PointeShoesTutus: We didn't do PGD with the embryos we've used already (4 for two pregnancies with 5 still frozen). But we had an abnormal nuchal translucency scan with blood work results that led to a 1/13 chance of a baby with Down syndrome with this current pregnancy among other potential issues.
So we asked our RE if PGD can be done with frozen embryos (he said it can be) and then called the insurance company to see if it would possibly be covered. The insurance company said to have the RE write a letter of medical necessity and mark it as urgent if we go for another embryo transfer down the road and feel it is necessary.
Don't feel like you have to explain yourself about the possibility of termination. It was/is a very real possibility for this pregnancy. We had a CVS done and the results came back normal (thank goodness) but the cells are now undergoing a microarray to test for rare micro deletion and micro duplication syndromes. We won't know the results of that for at least another week.
Also, we met with our RE only 4 months into TTC. I knew I had ovulation issues before I met DH. My former OB had DH have an SA done and that came back with issues. A repeat SA with the RE had the same issues for DH. We didn't really have a choice but to head to the RE quickly.

@swedishfish: Sorry. I was just explaining what my RE told me. I know every clinic is different and there are definitely success stories to every protocol. It is interesting how different protocols can be.
Sorry for taking forever to respond. haha. 5 days later... My cold turned into bronchitis and hit me Saturday. I finally feel a little better.

@Sunshine1810: that's a great question. I need to ask my RE what happens if that happens. I was thinking of just paying for one complete IVF cycle instead of the unlimited IVF plan.

So question for you all, probably more for those of you who have to pay out of pocket for IVF.
How do you get past the jealousy of paying so much for IVF and others don't?
Maybe this is something I'm struggling with because my 6 IUIs didn't work. Maybe (hoping) this can be a normal reaction to people who have to move on from IUI to IVF.
I spent probably over $1200 each for my last trio of IUIs ($3600 total) but I never thought of the money. Yeah, I knew how much I was spending but the money part of it wasn't a huge part in my jealousy before. Now that I will have to spend 10-15X that amount on IVF, the money part is a bigger part.
For me, it's not really people on HB... Maybe a little. But it's the recent pregnancy of my sister who is 11 weeks and my SIL who is about to give birth to my third nephew. Why are family pregnancies so hard?
Also, I might have been on Pinterest and read a snark ecard about Sorry about spending my child's college education to conceive a child.
I need to stop reading those negative IF quotes. Need to be more positive.
Is this just a phase? I don't know if I can be this jealous during my IVF journey. Maybe getting this off my chest will help.

@swedishfish: @jaguar: Thanks. Feeling a bit better. Still coughing. Still not sure if I should go to work tomorrow.

@bluestriped bee: jealousy was a part of my IF journey. It's completely normal.
kiwi / 613 posts
@bluestriped bee: The money part is definitely a struggle, as I've always been conservative about spending. I just keep reminding myself of how lucky we are to actually have the funds saved up to be able to afford these advanced fertility treatments. Yes, it sucks to spend it, but buying the chance to have a baby is so much more important to me than anything else I'd spend the money on in the future. So many women would give anything to buy this chance, but can't because they can't get loans or otherwise gather the funds. I try to remind myself that it could be worse.
And now that we have several failed IVF cycles under our belt, I'm also just grateful that I purchased the multi-cycle plan, because our financial situation would be much more dire right now if we had gone for the single-cycle option. We may need to move on to donor eggs, and finding the money for that would be nearly impossible without the guarantee program we signed on for.
Also, you probably already know this, but if you order any meds from Freedom, make sure to submit for an online quote first as it will have a $100 coupon attached to use on your first order. There's also an online coupon available for Endometrin that you can use for one box every two weeks, so start ordering early enough that you can take advantage of multiple $50 off coupons if you're going to be on that after your transfer (although will they put you on PIO instead maybe since you're doing a FET?). BCPs and estrace and Zithromax were so much cheaper at WalMart than anywhere else I found.

@Mrs.Pinecone316: @Jenn23: I'm doing ok, just have been feeling a bit quiet lately as we figure out what direction to go in. Thanks for checking in. I'm definitely lurking and rooting for you all so much, just don't feel up to contributing much at the moment, you know? I'm in BCPs for starting another fresh cycle, and trying to decide whether to get karyotyping done before moving forward with our last two remaining fresh cycle tries (we bought a guarantee program of 6 cycles). My RE proposed adding in steroids and Lovenox this cycle, so I'm looking into that. He said we could do PGS, but the cost ($6000) makes it not a good move for us so we're not going to move forward with that. If we are not successful with either of those two cycles, we will move forward with doing donor eggs with our clinic.

@bluestriped bee: I'm feeling very philosophical these days. Yes, it absolutely sucks to pay OOP for IVF...but I'm glad that at least someone is covered. And DH and I are very lucky to have the savings available so that it's less of a hardship.
@momazon: If no karyotyping, will you start a cycle in the next month or so? We are still waiting to hear whether there was anything definitive on our tissue chromosome testing, before we pursue karyotypes on ourselves, or the rest of a RPL work-up. Thinking of you and wishing you well!
kiwi / 613 posts
@FliegepilzHut: Yes, I've already started BCPs, so I could be about 6 weeks away from a transfer at the moment, if everything goes according to plan. I'm waiting on the bloodwork order from my RE, so I can call around and price out karyotyping at my local labs. Then we will weigh whether or not we think it makes financial sense for us. My doc office said they think it's about $1000, but I read several people online who said the labs were more like $3000+. I haven't done enough reading on it yet to make an informed decision unfortunately. But we don't have an endless pile of money, so I want to make sure we are only doing tests that make a difference for us. I hope the tissue chromosome testing can give you some answers, that must be so difficult waiting to hear. I'll be here crossing all my fingers and toes for you!
pomegranate / 3533 posts
@momazon: It is very tough to know which testing to pursue... I'm hopeful that we'll get some answers, although I'm guarded about expecting too much from the tissue testing. They say it's a 2-week turnaround...so I should have results at my follow-up appointment, scheduled for 9/2. Will your insurance not cover the karyotyping? I'm optimistic that ours...might. It sounds like you're in a good headspace...I'm glad that your energy levels are high and you're committed to your current course. Wishing you lots of luck this (and every) cycle!
hostess / wonderful apple seed / 16729 posts
@swedishfish: Thank you. I needed that!
@momazon: Great way of thinking about it. Thank you.
kiwi / 613 posts
@FliegepilzHut: Not sure if my insurance will cover the karyotyping, but I have an over $6000 (!!) yearly deductible, and none of my infertility treatments or injection meds or acupuncture appts have hit the deductible, as infertility and acupuncture are both excluded from my plan. So, I haven't made much of a dent in my deductible yet. Good luck getting yours covered, and keep us posted!
@macintosh: Hope you're taking it easy and feeling good after your transfer! Sending you best wishes for lots of patience for your TWW!
pomegranate / 3533 posts
@momazon: Yikes... I also have zilch in the way of IF coverage...but I'm hoping they appreciate how expensive this recurrent loss thing is getting to be. I will keep you posted as I get more info. I am definitely pulling for you to get your take-home baby very soon!!!
kiwi / 613 posts
@FliegepilzHut: I know! There are quite a few of us with no IF coverage here on the IVF boards-- our babies will have to fund our retirements since we can't tuck it all away now! Ha!
