@YogiRunner: That's great to hear. My clinic makes me feel that I'm one of the last people to ever want to do a fresh transfer. I'll be looking to follow your updates because I'm just so excited about starting my own IVF very soon. Are you doing stomach shots right now?

@agold: A week from Monday. The phone consult is free just to determine if you will be move forward with being a patient there so I'm sure I won't get many answers from that, but I will do definitely want to see what diagnostics they recommend and would do. I'm just numb to this and going through the process now to chug along.. I pretty done with bothering to hope at this point.

@PurplePumps: A free phone consult sounds great. I hear you on feeling numb to this. Its such a surreal thing. Who would have ever thought we'd be in this position? I certainly did not. I hope that you will still have a little hope, though.

@PurplePumps: Have you heard about the girl who writes what turned out to be an inspiring blog where she used a surrogate recently but got pregnant on her own also? She had so many struggles with getting pregnant due to various infertility type diagnosis. After years of trying, she used donor eggs and a surrogate who ended up getting pregnant with twin boys. While the surrogate was something like 5 months pregnant, the girl got pregnant all on her own with a little girl!! Its such an amazing story. Her twins were just born a bit ago. Can you imagine that girl's surprise at getting pregnant? I'm sure she really didn't think she could. Its stories like that that keep me feeling a bit hopeful. I'm not expecting to get pregnant on my own ever, but I do have a tiny bit of hope that maybe, some time, even if its years from now, I will get pregnant on my own. There's no harm in "trying" each month.

@agold: Wow, that's crazy. So she ended up with 4 kids!?
Well, I mean, I guess I have to have some shred of hope if I'm still trying, I just prefer to not really think about it, perform the motions and see what happens. I guess I more of a "ok, lets see if that worked" instead of a "I think this could actually work!!"

@PurplePumps: She will end up with three babies - two boys from the surrogate born recently, and a third girl with whom she's currently pregnant. I totally get now how you are feeling. I am beyond thinking anything can really work for me. I've felt that way with so many other steps in the process. Sucks all around. But still, I'm a bit hopeful about the IVF!

@AmeliaBedilia: It's a bit of FS preference and a bit of trial and error. I find most folks do shorter cycles, but the long-down reg were the type that my FS started me off on. Both have pros/cons.

@PurplePumps: *hugs* Lots to take in. My PCOS affects my hormones quite badly (I have high levels of testosterone & DHEA etc) so it can definitely indicate things.
pomegranate / 3809 posts
@jaguar: Did that effect your treatment? I asked specifically if it was or wasn't, what would be different in moving forward to get pregnant and he said nothing, which I thought was really odd. The only thing to gain would be be to diagnose it and know the reason for the infertility and since it could have other health implications down the road.

@PurplePumps: Honestly? We don't really know. My hormones are messed up. The last two stims I did (antag cycles) were freeze alls because my progesterone went insane ... who knows if it's related to one of the drugs, or the testosterone levels, nobody can actually say. They did check me for CAH (congenital adrenal hyperplasia) because of the levels, which came back negative - so mine seems directly linked to the PCOS. I wish I knew, to be honest.

@agold: Hey! I'll definitely keep you updated on how it's all going. Right now I do take 1 subcutaneous shot a night (I mix Gonal F and Menopur so it's only one shot), besides the mixing being a little confusing the first few times I did it, and just getting over the mental hump right before you inject, it's really not bad at all. Quick little prick. I'll be thinking of you!

And a quick q for this crew... I have been taking estradiol since CD21 of my previous cycle to prep for this IVF cycle. My doc had me stop it as of last night and I'm on CD5 of the IVF cycle, and have been on stims for 3 days.
So here's my question: AF this cycle was really weird. Started off normal enough with spotting then got really heavy with a big clot (sorry for the TMI). Now, as of last night, it completely disappeared. No spotting, nothing. My period usually lasts 6-7 days and tapers off with some spotting. Has anyone experienced this with estradiol or their stim meds? My body is confusing me!

@YogiRunner: I think these meds can definitely mess with us! I've always had a 14/15 day LP, and the one cycle I took Estradiol it was AF came 11 days post ER. Related or coincidence? Not sure. I went right from that failed IVF to a stim/TI cycle, and I'm 10dpo now, and just start spotting today so AF is probably early again, but no Estradiol to blame this cycle.

When they do CD3 bloodwork.. does it have to be right after a natural cycle. Can I do BC, and CD3 bloodwork on a withdrawal bleed, or would that not be accurate?
persimmon / 1114 posts
@PurplePumps: I have PCOS and a doctor I consulted with (although ultimately did not use) was going to do a different stim cycle based on that (instead of gonal f or follistim he wanted to do just menapur). The clinic I ultimately went with said there was no need for a different protocol.
persimmon / 1114 posts
@YogiRunner: I have had weird periods during the bc/stims portion. Not a clot, but sometimes I've gotten no period at all or days and days of spotting /bleeding. I think it can really vary.
pomegranate / 3533 posts
@PurplePumps: I don't know for sure...but as wonky as some people's cycles are coming off birth control, I would think a natural cycle would be better.
@YogiRunner: I would probably mention it to me RE...but that sounds pretty "normal" when moving between BCP/estrogen and stims! Wishing you a great cycle!
pomegranate / 3764 posts
@YogiRunner: Yep, the different drugs I'm on each cycle always do crazy things to AF when she is here. x

@YogiRunner: when I got off bc, I had my period, which was just light spotting, for one day! Was weird.

@FliegepilzHut: I'll double check with my doc. I was just trying to figure out if i should hurry up and get some CD3 done now, after my BC cycle... or sometime in Oct after next natural.
ANNNDDDD... AF is freaking early again. I was supposed to test Friday and I started spotting yesterday afternoon and full blown by yesterday night..10dpo! WTF. My always 14 day luteal phase was like the only thing that wasn't wrong with me and now even that's f'ed up.

@PurplePumps: @bloved: @FliegepilzHut: @jaguar: @tequiero21: Thank you!
Had my first u/s today at CD6, after 4 nights of stimming. I hate it when the tech tells you what's happening, I'd rather hear it from the doctor, but I was shown "one little follicle" on the right that "needs to grow", and then she was silent the rest of the u/s. Um, thanks, now I'm freaking out that I'm a poor responder. Longest wait ever for the nurse to call...
@purplepumps: UGGGH I'm so sorry. The worst.

@PurplePumps: Hugs! It's so frustrating when the few things going right change.
@YogiRunner: praying for good news! Being a poor responder is one of my big IVF fears.
My first IUI is Friday. I'm trying to do all the pre-IVF things in case, since it seems like everything needs three months to work. What do you recommend? I've already started DHEA, vitamin D, melatonin, and acupuncture. Anything else?

@AmeliaBedilia: I'm totally stalking this thread in case I'm here in month. I'd recommend CoQ10 as well as that helps with egg quality.
Have you head of the podcast Beat Infertility? I've been listening to that recently and it's given me lots of things to think of. In that podcast, they have an RE that is regularly on and actually she says that there is no medical evidence that DHEA is helpful and doesn't recommend melatonin. It's so hard because it seems that all RE's have difference suggestions.

@NorthStar: I'm on that as well. I just rainout of royal jelly and was debating on getting more. I hate the taste, but if it works, I'll do almost anything.
pear / 1881 posts
@AmeliaBedilia: That is something that I haven't tried yet (the royal jelly). Where did you buy it?
nectarine / 2192 posts
@NorthStar: a health food store. I read a study where it helped. RE didn't tell me to stop it, as opposed to him stopping one of
My other supplements.
