@MrstypeA: This is fantastic!! I know it was hard with the long wait, but good news at the end definitely helps!

@yellowbeach: schedule FET for 8/20. I have to get a polyp removed next week and my premed appointment shorty after! Fingers crossed!!

Any ladies have experience with a medicated cycle (fresh or frozen) vs a natural FET? I'm a bit curious what to expect with the natural FET as the meds played such a role in our ER and fresh transfer.

@yellowbeach: I had a super medicated fresh IVF cycle to conceive my first, and for my second (I'm now 30 weeks along) it was a natural FET with my one leftover frozen embryo. The second time around was much, much easier since we didn't need to do the retrieval. If I remember correctly it was just a day or two of monitoring and trigger shot before the transfer. Nothing compared to all the shots with the fresh retrieval and transfer!

@yellowbeach: I don’t have any experience! Very interested in what everyone says though!

@yellowbeach: have you done the FET?

I had my lining check this morning, thickness looked great but there was fluid in the lining and now we may have to cancel the transfer. Has anyone ever heard of this? They put me on mucinex to help dry it up, I am beside myself. I didn't even know this was a possibility. Thanks.

@MrstypeA: I believe I had fluid in my lining once and we went forward with the transfer. I just wish I remembered if it was a successful transfer or not!! It's been so long and we got DS on the 3rd one (1st FET).

When will you know if you can proceed?

  10. MrstypeA

    cherry / 126 posts

@NorthStar: wow! my Dr. isn't even going to give me the option to proceed. I won't know until monday morning before the scheduled transfer. I would go in at 7am for the check and then if it was good they we thaw an embryo and do the transfer later that day.

@MrstypeA: that makes sense. It's possible that mine cleared up right before and I hope yours does as well! Like I said, it's been what seems like forever.

    But, seriously - how stressful?!

  12. MrstypeA

    cherry / 126 posts

@NorthStar: for real though! I didn't even know this was a thing.. I didn't even know this was something I should have on my radar to worry about. oy. now I have to start progesterone for maybe no reason?! pity party of 1! woof.

    nectarine / 2648 posts

@MrstypeA: Yeah I've never heard of this... do they know what causes it? Is there something you can do to avoid it happening as you prep for the next cycle? Such a bummer.

  14. MrstypeA

    cherry / 126 posts

@yellowbeach: they think it’s from my csection scar and elevated estrogen levels. If it doesn’t resolve itself this cycle they are suggesting surgery to “fix” the scar 😩😢.

I have my check tomorrow at 7am and then if the fluid cleared up, I will have the transfer at 11:30. Please send good vibes!! This fluid has to be cleared!!!!

@MrstypeA: Beautiful embryo. Wishing you all the luck in the world!!!

@yellowbeach: I'm not sure what you mean by a "natural" FET. What @YogiRunner described is my experience exactly (stimulated fresh cycle and subsequent FETs) but i wouldn't call it an FET "natural"....I still had to do estrogen/progesterone a bit before and forever after transfer. As far as I know FETs never involve stimulating drugs like a fresh cycle. Can you clarify what you are looking for/what you are having?

  21. yellowbeach

    nectarine / 2648 posts

@Mrs. Pajamas: Apparently for my fresh cycle there are no drugs involved. Not even the vaginal progesterone after transfer. They just have me test with OPKs and do the transfer a few days after positive. Somewhere along the way they check some blood levels and d a few TVUSs, but no meds involved.

    kiwi / 702 posts

@yellowbeach: wow OK this is super interesting...never heard of this protocol for an FET but I actually did start my IVF journey in a clinic that did "natural IVF" which sounds exactly like what you are describing. I didn't do OPKs, just sooo much monitoring. They would basically monitor me until I was naturally ovulating then they gave me a trigger shot to get the timing right and did retrieval on the one or two eggs that I naturally released. Unfortunately it was not successful (I had 2 BFNs and one blighted ovum), but I thought it was a brilliant option for those of us with male factor diagnoses. Plus it was so much cheaper than stimulated cycles. Good luck!

@MrstypeA: When will you test? (at home or with a serum)

  24. yellowbeach

So I finally got good news at the RE that I've closed the chapter on my TFMR and am ready to move on with a FET this cycle. I'm Day 5, and will go back in for a tvus Day 13 (Aug 31) to check and see if I'm ovulating. He also wants me to take OPKs with me to Vegas next week just in case I'm a day or two early. Plan will be FET 5 days after I ovulate. Which will be ~Sept 3-5.

Anyone else doing a cycle this month?

  25. MrstypeA

    cherry / 126 posts

@yellowbeach: wow! That’s exciting! Remind me- did you decide to transfer 1 or 2 and do you know genders after PGS?

I am torn about taking a HPT. I just don’t see an outcome where I feel calm haha of its positive I’ll want to keep testing but if it’s negative I’ll cry and shut down. I had one test in my house and I used it yesterday- day 2. Hah I just thought I wouldn’t feel sad if it was negative since it was so early but not gonna lie I was still disappointed.

Currently schedule to go in for blood work test on 9/4 since 9/3 is a holiday. 😩 what is a serum test?

  26. yellowbeach

    nectarine / 2648 posts

@MrstypeA: Serum is just another word for the blood test. I totally feel you on the super-early BFN still stinging a lot - even though you know it's early. I'm impressed with your willpower though if you are going to wait until September!

We will be transferring just 1, PGS-normal embryo this time around. We transferred just 1 on our only other cycle and got DD out of it, plus had a natural pregnancy, so I guess I've proven I can stick a pregnancy.

  27. MrstypeA

    cherry / 126 posts

@yellowbeach: ah gotcha! September will be here before we know it! Trying to stay busy! Even though I’m questioning evey twinge and non feeling as well! All of my “pregnancy tells” have been happening even prior to transfer- headaches and sore breasts bc of the hormones!

  28. yellowbeach

    nectarine / 2648 posts

@MrstypeA: Yep - on my first transfer I felt nothing - I was just so bloated from all the stim... I was shocked when I got my at home and didn't believe it until I talked to the nurse in my RE's office who confirmed it definitely wasn't the trigger. Symptom spotting is zero help in our cases.

Catching up on the board. @yellowbeach: So happy to hear that you've been given the go-ahead! I know it's been a looong road to get here, but I have my fingers crossed for you!

@MrstypeA: Congrats on the transfer!! Sending so many good thoughts your way.

AFM, our meds were delivered today. I'm still on BC and we're scheduled for our retrieval the week of Sept. 17.

@yellowbeach: hah it’s so true! Darn!

@foodiebee: wahoo! That’s excitibg! I remember thinking the meds were so overwhelming when they were delivered!

  32. foodiebee

    kiwi / 662 posts

@MrstypeA: I thought I would be more overwhelmed, but I think I was okay because I'd seen pictures online of other people's meds and it helped me know what to expect. The box's size did definitely surprise my DH though!

Hi everyone, I've been reading hellobee for a long time but thought I'd finally say hi. My husband and I have had two rounds of IVF with no luck. Now were thinking of going to Europe for treatment since its quite a bit less. Has anyone gone for treatment there? We're in the US.

@meilin: welcome! Glad you decided to leave lurker status and join the conversation 😀

Has your RE provided any thoughts on why your have been unsuccessful so far? Are your embryos PGS tested?

  35. meilin

    apple seed / 4 posts

Thank you for the warm welcome! We have a little male factor and my age to deal with:(. My Dr here has said its a matter of luck since many of my eggs aren't healthy ( age ). We're also considering a donor egg which is also more affordable there.

  36. yellowbeach

    nectarine / 2648 posts

@meilin: I’m 40, so age and egg quality is our big issue as well. Our first transfer we got 10 embryos and transferred one which stuck. She’s now 18 months. Second pregnancy was conceived naturally but we had to TFMR. We then did PGS and discovered 3 of our 9 embryos were abnormal and wouldn’t have resulted in pregnancy if transferred. Thatcouldhsvebeen $2900x3 down the drain if we had unknowingly selected those. So paying $5505 to test our 9 embryos is a potential money saver. Just something to consider.

  37. meilin

    apple seed / 4 posts

We did PGS both times. The last time we had 5 embryos that were all abnormal. It's definitely worth the extra money to test. If we went over seas we would do it there too.

  38. yellowbeach

    nectarine / 2648 posts

@meilin: gosh that’s so frustrating. I don’t know anything about overseas IVF, but do you take your donor egg there or get a donor native to where you are doing the IVF?

  39. foodiebee

    kiwi / 662 posts

@meilin: Hi and welcome! I'm afraid I don't know anything about overseas IVF as I'm juuuuust beginning my first IVF now, but I wanted to welcome you and wish you luck with whatever way you decide. We'll be doing testing too if we get enough embryos to justify the expense.

@MrstypeA: Are you still holding out for your blood test or have you caved and tested?

  40. yellowbeach

    nectarine / 2648 posts

@foodiebee: I think she caved and tested but I won't steal her thunder...

As for me, just got back from my RE this morning. US showed my lining at 7.8mm (they like at least 8mm for transfer) and a good sized follicle on the right. She's predicting another 3-5 days before I ovulate. They had me set up an appt for another US for Monday 9/3 in case I haven't had a + OPK by that point just to ensure things still look on track. If I OV before Monday, we'll just cancel the ultrasound. Long and short of it, we have a tentative transfer date of 9/8! I'm super excited. Only downside is DH has to work that day as it stands (he really loved seeing or DD as a blastocyst in the incubator last time) and if he can't find coverage, will miss it. Also, our big annual neighborhood block party is that day. That is a bummer to miss, but worth it to do this of course.
