@nanilani: Thank you! This was just our first cycle trying, so I'm not too discouraged. Praying for peace and patience for all of us rolling over to next month, and for lots more BFPs on this board!

What's everyone's strategy on OPKs? I ovulated on CD13 when I conceived DD... thinking about starting them around CD10 or so?

Is once a day in the afternoon sufficient or do y'all test twice a day?

  3. Marfi

@skinnycow: I start testing on CD10. This is how my doctor recommends you do OPKs:
Get up in the morning and go pee then an hour later pee again and take the test! If you do it with your FMU then it's too concentrated. Only one time a day is necessary.

    Hope this helps!

@skinnycow: I've seen it recommended to start OPKs about five days before your earliest known ovulation date. I would think it depends on whether you have a longer or shorter LH surge. In my whopping one cycle of experience with them, I got a positive OPK two days before ovulation.

If the official doctor's recommendation @marfi provided works for you, I'd do that. I'm not one to argue with a professional! But that would not have worked for my schedule, so here's what I did: Since I had no insight into what to expect from my cycle (I'm very irregular), I opted to take tests twice a day about 12 hours apart using FMU and right after work. When I thought something was starting to get close to positive I sometimes added a mid-day test as well. Now that I know my surge is longer this would probably not be necessary, but I'd seen anecdotes online about people missing short surges that lasted under 24 hours. Ultimately I got my first positive with FMU and it lasted through the next morning's FMU (four tests total).

@skinnycow: I started CD 10 and did twice a day at about 10-11am and 5-6 pm. This was recommended by my OB, but it was annoying since I O late.

I think I hate the tww. I keep telling myself I'll handle it well. But my emotions ping pong from thinking I'm not pregnant until I feel a random cramp or my boobs randomly feel sore and then I think I could be pregnant. I'm a sane gal and usually even keeled but have been stunned how hard this time frame is each time I go through it. It's not cool what we endure each month.

@Marfi: @nanilani: @Mrs.Panda: Thanks everyone! I'll probably start testing this weekend. I never seemed to get a true positive OPK when I was TTC DD so maybe I have a short surge.

@MrsJBeeG: I feel you, sister. I'm actively dealing with AF, but every time my boobs twinge, I think, "Oh! Maybe! No, wait..."

@MrsJBeeG: i think i'm a week behind you, im starting my fertile window... and i know every symptom or twitch i feel like is this the one? is this what it happened last time?? and im constantly comparing the sticks.. is it getting darker? am i there yet? just because im not sure what to expect... if im following my usual or if because of my miss things are different.... im rambling.... sorry

@skinnycow: If you think you have a short surge, I definitely recommend testing more than once/day. I tested after lunch and after dinner for my last cycle, and once I got a near positive, I added in an SMU test the next day, which was my first positive. I wasn't sure how long my surge was, and I didn't want to miss it. !

@HeartAbandoned: I know - I did that this past AF after waiting a long time for my first AF after loss. If anyone told me what it was like trying to become pregnant and then have a baby - I'd have said they were exaggerating. Now that I've lived it ... I will be so much more sympathetic when others share their feelings.

@chypmunk: I totally understand. This first af after the loss was crushing but so relieving at the same time. But 40 days felt like forever. I've felt better but have such moments of craziness. This weekend I cried about how I'd never be a mom. My DH held me. I've convinced myself I'm sane but not pregnant and just imagining everything. Then after dinner tonight I start to get terrible nausea and incredibly sore boobs so now I'm convincing myself I was wrong and I'm pregnant. Sigh. I feel like I'm Jim Carey in Me, Myself and Irene. At least having others to chat with and know they won't judge helps.

I'm on CD 11 and going crazy waiting to ovulate. I probably still have another week but UGH, why does it go so slowly?!

@mrskansas: well you have company on the going crazy. Sorry it takes so long - I hope it happens faster for you

@MrsJBeeG: Last cycle was the earliest I've ever ovulated (CD 18) so I'm assuming it will be least another week, but I would love if it were earlier!
Glad I'm in good company though

@mrskansas: i know the feeling.... this type of limbo is maddening... I'm going to try to sneak a scan at work to take a peek at my follicle... i doubt it will appease me, but who knows?

  18. mrskansas

    nectarine / 2813 posts

@chypmunk: so jealous that you can do that! I would love to be able to do follicle scans myself.

@chypmunk: I get that. It's so hard to avoid being crazy while TTC.
I've been at it for almost a year and still haven't figured out how to calm down, lol

I'm starting to feel hopeful. Nipples are really sensitive today, I was so exhausted I had to take a nap after dinner which isn't like me and I just wiped and had a spot of blood on the tp. I never spot between AF - the only time I did was in April when I was pregnant. Who knows what will happen when I test but I feel like there maybe a chance for me for a bfp next week.

@CoolCate: thank you. I know it's kind of silly and I could end up with a bfn but I feel happy. I got some FRER today - now if I can just wait until later next week to avoid testing to early.

@Raspberry: 7dpo - I don't use opks (I'd totally let it take over my life if I did) but based on cm and mild cramps I get - I ovulate right around cd 14. It could be it was cd 15 but definitely around that time. I'm trying not to be too hopeful if it is a bust.

    I'M FREAKING OUT!
This is the darkest line i've gotten all month! This is my first ovulation that i've actually tracked, and made with medical help, and it was looking like it was never going to change since i'm CD21. I'm going to test again later today!

@CoolCate: It is at last getting darker. How long are your cycles normally?
I would test late morning and early evening every day if I were you.

  29. CoolCate

    olive / 69 posts

@SweetiePie: I have pcos and havent had a normal cycle in years. I have af maybe 4 times a year and they last almost a month. I keep seeing its normal for those with pcos to ovulate late and if the line keeps getting darker i may have to agree! This test was my smu and i plan yo test again later today

    This afternoons results
Just cried into my fiances shoulder with happiness. First normal thing my body has done in years. Was so worried another complication would come up and i wouldnt have a hormone surge or even ovulate. Its pretty normal at this point to hear thay my body isnt doing or reacting how it should. Even if i dont get that bfp, I know that i can be done. I can ovilate and get pregnant. Wish me luck that his swimmers hit their mark!

@CoolCate: My guess is you detected the beginning of your surge. If you test tomorrow, I bet it will be really really positive. Good luck!

@CoolCate: yes! Def BD but don't stop testing because it looks very very close to positive but not quite yet. But this is so promising! Yay!

How reliable do you ladies find the Internet cheapies to be? I see a faint shadow, but I did last month as well which turned out to be a BFN. Are these known for evaps? I will test again in the morning of course but curiosity got the best of me.

Full disclosure: Crazy TTC lady at 8 DPO with no willpower.

Popping in to say hello, and congrats to the bfps! I think of you guys often, but once my 28 day regular cycles went to 24 days, and two failed clomid cycles- I needed a break. We took DD to Disney 4th of July, and I signed up for a half marathon in the fall to give myself a different goal to work towards. Hopefully, I can get the scale moving again!

My OB put me on metformin to regulate my cycles and balance my hormones, and this time I got extended release. We will start trying again October (race is November.). It's been about five years since I ran a half, so I'm excited!

My temp dropped down to the cover line over the past two days, so I think I'm out. I was trying not to symptom spot all weekend, but now I'm just waiting for AF May my next cycle be shorter!

On the upside, I went shopping yesterday so at least my new clothes will fit for a little longer.
