Anyone knit out there? A friend of mine taught me a long time ago, and I'm trying to re-learn through YouTube videos! My goal is to make LO a blanket (or at this rate, my next kid... haha).
Anyone else like to knit? If you have a good learning video recommendation, I'd also love to see it!

I also YouTube a bunch of stitches! I look for patterns I like the look of, then YouTube the name of the stitch.

I do! I second stitch and bitch. The patterns are so so but it's a great resource. Actually there is a good baby blanket pattern in there that is simple but looks nice. And you must join Ravelry.

Question! Is a blanket an easy beginners project, or am I setting myself up for failure? I'm also using super bulky yarn and 8 mm circular needles. Not sure if that's harder than a thin yarn...?

@Pepper: I think it is an easy project, but for myself, it's easy to get overwhelmed. I got pretty bored knitting the same row after row after row. Finally I figured out that I would much rather have a shorter, slightly more complicated project to keep my interest. Sure, it results in a little bit more swearing than is decent for a baby item, lol, but I've been able to knit a couple of pretty cute things!

I bought knitting needles a few weeks ago, but no yarn, yet, lol. I totally have been intending to learn how to knit, but I haven't actually tried anything, yet! I'll be following this thread for pointers!

I knit! I used to knit a lot more. The most recent thing I made was a tiny hat for CJ that she wore at the hospital after she was born. Haven't made anything else since, but it's a fun hobby for sure. For more free patterns, I'd recommend checking out knitty.com as you get more adventurous with your knitting. They don't have a ton of kid/baby stuff but some of the adult patterns are great!

@Pepper: You should check out local yarn stores. They often have classes. And even when they don't have classes, likely as not, you'll see random people and staff sitting around and knitting. I have brought stuff in for help and they are usually more than willing to help!

I just search youtube videos as well when I come across something unfamiliar in a pattern. I find knitting hats very satisfying. Little beanies are super easy to make and doesn't take as much time as a blanket or even a scarf.

Bumping! I finally learned to knit the basic beginner stitch. So, right now I have a long, knitted rainbow belt lol. Any good resources to go to for the next thing to learn? I wanna learn some different stitches.

@Dandelion: I just pick a project I like, and any time I run into a stitch that I don't know (like "make one left"), I just google that exact phrase and 99% of the time, there is a knitting video demonstrating that exact stitch.
Ravelry patterns will usually rate "easy, intermediate, hard, etc." on the pattern itself. The advanced search is the key!
I'm making a sparkly princess cape for my niece that incorporates a mosaic stitch (the design over the background). It took a few tries to understand the pattern, but as complicated as it looks, it is as simple as knitting and purling!

@Espion: thanks for the tip! I think I'm going to try and make a hat, since I have a nice pair of circular needles I'm dying to try out.
