We were late term 35+6 weeks. L was taken straight to NICU and was there for ... 4 days in total. We had some worries about infection since we weren't sure when my water broke. Also about Group B Strep since I never got a chance to have testing done. Lastly, he had a bit of jaundice.

Lo was 35w+2, and was taken straight to the nicu, where he stayed for 2 weeks, mainly to gain weight. He was 3 lbs 12 oz, and about 4 lbs 3 oz when they finally let us bring him home.

I was 35+4 and my son was taken automatically to the nicu. He stayed less than a day.

@Mrs. Lion: my hospital doesn't have a mandatory NICU stay. My 34 weeker spent 22 days feeding growing. We are hoping to get to 36 this time and praying we pass the NICU. I have some NICU nurse friends who said girls tend to do better so there is high hope!

I hope you skip the NICU! Please do update when you deliver! I have been wondering this and it seems the answers are all over the board the places I have asked! It's so hard to want to know what to expect for sure!

@MamaT: how did they determine if your babe had the suck swallow breathe down?

@.twist.: I've really been thinking about it so much lately since DD is about to turn one! People still talk/ask me about it all the time!

@BabyPenguinXO: I honestly don't remember??? There were so many doctors and nurses... I assume they watched him while he breastfed. They only allowed me to breastfeed 10 minutes each time followed by a bottle of pumped milk so that he wouldn't burn so many calories. That doesn't necessarily answer your question, but I just can't remember how they determined he was doing that correctly
