This seems like a silly question but where do you get your laundry baskets? We've been just buying the plastics ones from Target and they keep falling apart within a year. We're going to be redoing our basement that includes our laundry room and I want to incorporate spaces for 6 baskets in the design. But I'm looking for some that will last! Any suggestions?

We bought square Sterilite brand, white with grey handles. We built slots for them, so they essentially hang on their handles with the weight of a very full load of laundry. They show no wear.

@SweetCaroline: Really? Maybe we're really hard on our laundry baskets as those are exactly the ones we have.

@Mommy Finger: ha, dang...I was afraid you would say that. Ours look like new! We mostly keep them in the laundry room though, no kiddos horsing around in them

I got sterlite ones on amazon and have never had a problem! My kids even play in them and fight over them. What are you doing to your laundry baskets??

@Foodnerd81: That's the exact one we have too. We've had it for years and it's still in great condition. We don't really do anything with it except carry laundry around though.
ETA: Am I doing laundry wrong? Why would you need so many laundry baskets? We have one. We do have a bunch of hampers though (each kid has a hamper and then we have laundry sorter in our room).

@Foodnerd81: Ha! Maybe it's because we have the square ones? DH is normally the one dealing with laundry so maybe he doesn't know his own strength!!!!

@Mommy Finger: My husband had a square one and that broke pretty quickly. I think because we would carry it on our hip like the ones @Foodnerd81 linked, but that would put pressure on it and it would break. The one with the hip spot doesn't have that issue at all.

I have a soft plastic woven one from HomeGoods or Marshalls or TjMaxx that I use as a laundry basket. Also got pretty hampers from one of these stores too.

We use TubTrugs and love them. I also use them for toys. They come in lots of different sizes. They aren't baskets.
We live in a small apartment and I like that they stack super easily, and are soft when you run into them in the dark.

@Mommy Finger: We have those too and the grey handles bust off. I have resorted to buying the cheaper ones. I think they are under $5 and if i have to replace them every 6 months or so it doesn't break the bank

@Adira: we have a set of six laundry baskets and there are definitely times when they are all full of clean clothes in various stages of being folded. But I do like to fold things and put them into different baskets for different rooms/ people to make it easier to put away (I fold in front of the tv in the family room).

@Foodnerd81: Ahh, actually, we probably DO need another laundry basket or too because Hubs' clean clothes just go in a pile on the floor!!

@Foodnerd81: That's what we do. One basket for each of the 4 of us. One for towels and one for sheets.

@Mommy Finger: bahaha this conversation is fascinating! I mean...if we're calling it what it is...I likely just don't use my baskets enough... Each member of my family has a substantial collection of socks and underwear to get us through.

I get the big plastic tubs from target. They don’t have holes so they don’t fall apart, they have nice rope handles and they are the perfect size. I think $8

I just have the cheap white ones like posted from amazon. A hip kidney bean one and a rectangle one. We use them to carry heavy stuff sometimes and then for laundry and kiddie car rides on the floor. :). Surprisingly they haven't broken, but it's probably a matter of time. They're 10 years old at least.

@SweetCaroline: I'm with you! DH is in charge of laundry but it takes him FOREVER to get it done and put away so we have way too many clothes to compensate. I don't complain too much b/c a) I don't have to do the laundry and b) shopping!

We've had the cheap square ones from Target for years (like 7-8 years) and they have held up well. But I recently bought a couple new ones from Target that are wider and built to fit against your hip more easily - I've only tested them a couple months but they seem sturdy!

We have been using Steele canvas totes for years. We have 6 I think they are expensive but sturdy.
