I've been on the Mirena for almost a year now and haven't had a period since May. Last Friday, I started spotting, and then progressed into a full-fledged period. It's been over a week now and it gets lighter for a day and then comes back heavier again. It doesn't appear to show any signs of wrapping it up and going away.
Is this normal??

I had spotting, like during my period week, while I had it. Never heard of that before. I would probably call my OB and make sure it is still in place.

I would give my OB a call. I've only ever had very light spotting or nothing at all

I have had Mirena twice and never had that happen. I would call just to be sure.

I've had my mirena for 1.5 years. Most months I get light spotting for a couple of days but I have had two heavier periods. One lasted 8 days and one lasted 12. I called my OB and she said while it's common to not have a period it's still possible to have them. I would call your OB just to be sure though.

@Smurfette: I do think it's still in place because I can feel the strings, but I guess I should call my OB to be on the safe side.

I'm on my second Mirena and my periods are barely enough to warrant a pantiliner. I'd be calling the doctor and wondering if it fell out or got displaced. Glad to hear you can feel the strings!

@Adira: lol! I had a friend who had the same symptoms, and she had a mirena baby. Call your doctor either way!

I had a Mirena for like 7+ years (2 Mirenas, pre and post LO) and I've had this issue before. It was always random but I chalked it up to increased stress that month or whatever other things that normally impact periods. I'll be honest, I never called my doctor - but I don't think it's a bad idea to do so if you want.

I had the same experience as yoursilverlining too. Where i basically spotted for 2 weeks straight, with maybe 3 days of regular bleeding. But i think seeing your OB is a good idea.

@Smurfette: Uhh... I mean... I don't think so....??? I have the Mirena. It's supposed to prevent that kind of thing!!! No clue about ovulation, but there really has not been a ton of sex in my life in the last month because of illnesses, so... it seems unlikely.... right???
@KayKay: LOL! You have a long wait! I leave work at 4:00, then I'll hit up the drug store to buy a test, then pick up the kids, then I'll have to make dinner, and then MAYBE I'll have an opportunity to test...

@adira: umm...i have an almost 2y old and a 34w baby belly as a result of 2 preg tests that I took on a whim but "knew" they'd be negative...
...but i'm sure you're fine. hahaha
