I'm due with my 2nd at the end of a April/beginning of May and was going thru my first DD's clothes that I saved. She was a February baby so it was definitely cooler the first couple months. I'm in Texas so May-September and even Oct can be really hot. 90s plus every day. I have about 6-7 sleepers, but no short sleeve onesies or shorts or rompers. I do have a ton of 3 month size short sleeve onesies. We will probably be out at the parks/splash pad/pool during her first 3 months of life, so I'm unsure how to dress a newborn when it's so hot outside. What did you dress your newborn in during super hot summer months?

Footed sleeppers because we always had the AC on in the house. Short rompers with ankle socks hen we left the house.
We arent really onesie only people, but I think a onesie with a swaddle is perfect. LO wasn't swaddled.

My daughter was born at the beginning of September in New Orleans so it was still super hot for the first 2-3 months of her life. She lived in onesies and we would have blankets to wrap her in while we held her. They are the best. Easy to change her diaper and perfect under swaddles.

For the first couple of weeks our June baby wore footed cotton sleepers. Then lots of rompers or short sleeved onesies. He was a sweaty baby.

My August baby spent his days in short sleeve onesies, often swaddled, but more for the pressure/comfort than temperature. He slept in these cool newborn sleep gowns we were gifted and a sleep sack.

Short sleeve onesie with socks, legs loosely covered with a A+A blanket. Night time was a long sleeve onesie and a swaddle me. No pants or shorts until the 0-3 months fit!

@abbydabbydoodlebug: It gets really hot here (110+ temperatures) and DS was born in July
so he wore lots of one pieces like this. It's a bit more of an outfit than a onesie but still minimal fabric. For sleeping, he wore a very, very thin sleep sack over just a diaper or thin onesie.

DD wore lots of short sleeved onesies and outfits like this. She was born in October, but it was still hot.

Remember you can't put sunscreen on them for the first few months- so maybe a rash guard top with UB protection would help?
My July baby in New England wore a lot of short sleeve onesies on their own (we swaddled) or little one piece rompers when I was feeling fancy. Almost never shorts or skirts because it was just extra effort. She slept in a onesie with a swaddle blanket around her (we have AC but kept it moderate temperature).

Short sleeve onesie or just a diaper! August in Florida, similar weather to you. My son was/is very hot natured and would get super sweaty and red, so I just did the minimum amount of clothing possible! I would bring a light A&A swaddle blanket if we were inside somewhere with cold AC, but even that wasn't always necessary!

@Foodnerd81: Most parks are shaded here and I'm probably going to get a airflow carrier like a k'tan. I believe the fabric is UV protected.

I was so confused about how to dress a summer newborn before LO2 was born. New England is also weird for an August baby because it can go from 90s in August to 60s or 70s in September.
I ended up with a few rompers and some short sleeve onesie and lightweight pants outfits. I also always had muslin blankets on hand so that if we were in AC I could cover her up. We also had a lightweight stretch jersey cover for the car seat. It protected her from direct sunlight but was still breathable.

My daughter was born in the middle of August in the south. She lived in just a onesie and socks until it started getting cooler.

DS was born in June and we have very hot summers here (100+). He pretty much lived in onesies until fall. I wish that I hadn't even bought newborn sleepers. I packed him a sleeper to come home from the hospital in and I felt bad because it was like 108 degrees that day haha.

Oops I remembered wrong. We somethings used those stupid Skip Hop short sleeve onesies that snapped at the neck on only one side! And then covered DS with a blanket.

DS2 just wore onesies and we'd have an A & A lightweight swaddle blanket on top of him when he was in the stroller outside.

@abbydabbydoodlebug: we were so scared as FTP anytime we had to change LO with his wobbly head. The three TINY snaps at the neck left practically ZERO room to maneuver his massive head.
For baby number two we will definitely get some envelope onesies from the beginning.

We did a lot of onesies with blankets when he was really little. Our DS #2 was born in the end of May, so we only used about half of his brother's clothes. We still use about half of them for various reasons like ezcema (can't sleep in fleece sleepers) and weather inappropriate and not his size. Right now, I'm waiting for summer to put him in 2t shorts and shirts. I found some long sleeve 24 month tops to get us through until the summer.

I'm fairly certain my August baby didn't wear pants/shorts/any bottoms until October when it started to cool down! Dressing a newborn was so overwhelming to me, I kept thinking I was going to snap his arm or something!

This is a thought for us as well - even though I am due in March, considering how dang warm it has been already, I'm figuring he will be mostly naked the first 6 months of his life! Though inside most places do keep the A/C cranked up (including our house) so for days that you aren't outside that much, a regular outfit could be fine.
For the sunscreen reason @Foodnerd81: mentioned I am in the market for some cute rashguard / swim trunk combos with little hats for my guy when we take his sister to the pool or splash pad. Thankfully we make kids with lots of melanin but that TX sun is still no joke!
I'm having a boy, so the romper options are fewer, but for girls there are so many and they are so cute!

My first was February and my second was late May. They were similar sized, but the shrinkage from washing factor helped and I found they could wear a lot of the same clothes, with the exception of newborn fleece sleepers. Early days she usually wore a long sleeved onesie and pants or a cotton sleeper. When we would venture out in warmer weather it was usually a short sleeved onesie and light pants. I just always kept a pair of cooler and warmer clothes on hand and a Muslin and Knit blanket.

@daniellemybelle: good point about hats, I probably need to get some small ones. I'm pretty sure I'm getting a K'tan active,which is uv protected. I'm hoping it'll be cool enough to wear outside.
