@Mrs. Jacks: yeah, he has a very large PDA that joins the aorta right at the left common carotid, so I was thinking it was possible the air bubble would skip the lungs and go to the brain that way. But the MRI showed damage along both hemispheres in the watershed, so it seems clear that it is due to his very low blood pressure limiting perfusion when he crashed Monday.
Thanks for your thoughts everyone! Charlie started producing some urine as they started setting him up on dialysis, so we have a tiny bit of good news for the day!

Merry Christmas everyone! Charlie's dialysis seems to be working so far, and he looks a bit better and less swollen today. Hopefully he will give us a quiet Christmas and his dialysis will continue to work well.
I hope you all are having a wonderful day so far. I can't say enough how much I appreciate your thoughts and prayers for my little boy.

Thank you all for your continues thoughts and prayers! Charlie gave us a quiet day yesterday which was wonderful. The Drs are pleased with his dialysis and he is still producing urine, although he has still added weight instead of losing, so I am not sure how I feel about that. They are doing some tweaks to his electrolytes and are going to try and take him off his paralytic. They are also looking for blood clots to see why his platelet count continues to go down. So it will be a busy day for him, but we are hoping everything continues forward so we can discuss his heart surgery timeline.

@MrsScallop: maybe I missed some details but gaining weigh in his case is no good? I hope they can give you a definite date for surgery soon! Hugs!

@snowjewelz: yeah, he isn't actually eating, just being given IV nutrition (which was actually turned off since Monday and just turned back on last night I think) and sugar water, so extra weight is just extra fluid he is retaining on his body. He was born at 2.9 kg and is now 4.2 kg, so ~ 1.3 kg (2.8lbs) of extra water weight on him. The dialysis is working to pull fluid off, so we are hoping to see his weight go back down to closer to his birth weight.
