My 1 month old has always spit up a lot, but since he is too young to really medicate (per the pediatrician) and gaining weight well we are leaving it as a laundry issue for now. At two weeks he got a stuffy nose after his big sister had a runny nose for a few days. We are now 12 days in despite a daily protocol of a nightly humidifier, camping out in the bathroom every morning by the steamy shower, and saline drops and aspirator as needed with no end in site.

What’s more is that despite holding him upright for 30minutes- 1 hour after breastfeeding, if I transfer him to the rock and play (the bassinet with a wedge never worked) he will still sleep for 5-10 minuets and then sputter, make a gagging noise, and wake up about 85% of the time. I’m assuming this is because even with the incline and extra digestion time he’s getting reflux and can’t breath properly from his nose. He ends up doing almost all of his sleeping in my arms then instead (or in the carrier during the day.) I’m exhausted. What’s odd to me is that he can sleep in a mildly inclined cross cradle position no problem so I’m not sure if maybe it’s better when he’s on his side.

Has anyone dealt with this? Any tips? Could this be an allergy or something causing these symptoms instead of reflux + a cold? I’m following up with our pediatrician too but would love any and all advice right now. Thank you!!
