I need some suggestions on what to do for naps with my 10 month old and 2.5 year old. My baby wakes up at 8 and I put her down for a nap at about 1030. She sometimes falls asleep right away. Other times she fights it for a little while. She usually sleeps 45-1 hour. I then try and get both of them to nap at about 2 pm. The 10 month old doesn't seem that sleepy at this time but will eventually fall asleep and wake up between 330 and 4. My toddler wakes up about 830 and we start bedtime around 830, in bed by 9. The toddler takes a long time to fall asleep (even with me lying down with him) and will usually nap up to close 2 hours...up around 430pm. Bedtime rolls around and he obviously isn't tired so it takes him over an hour to fall asleep at night as well. I know I should put him down for a nap earlier but he has problems settling down so I usually have to lie down with him for the nap, which means baby has to go down at the same time. I don't have to stay with the toddler at night when he falls asleep. So my question is, how do I figure out a good nap schedule for the two of them. Do I force the baby to drop the morning nap and they both go down shortly after lunch? How can I help my toddler settle on his own for naps? The baby's temperament is pretty good. She doesn't get fussy easily. Toddler gets cranky if he misses his afternoon nap. I think the baby would do good having a nap a little later in the afternoon but what do I do with her while I lie down with the toddler? Or do I scrap his afternoon nap? My head hurts!
