I noticed today that at target if you trade in a car seat, you get a 20 % off car seat coupon. We're looking to convert DS to a convertible within the next couple of weeks. We have a key fit and I was leaning towards the nextfit. I was wondering if anyone has it, if they love it, hate it? Also if you have another band do you reccomend it. I'm definitly looking for something that can be rear faced for a while, with that being said DS is in the 100%tile for weight and height.

We love our Maxi Cosi Pria 70s - I feel like the limits are already high, but for a bit more money they make an 80, which has even higher weight and (I believe) height allowances.

I don't own one, but I hear the favorite these days for a high weight limit rear facing is the graco extend to fit. It is relatively new. I love the seat and harness of our milestone, and I hear this one is similar.

I have the Nextfit and like it because it is narrow and fits well in my Prius. My LO is still rearfacing in it now at 2.5 and will be able to make it for a while yet. He's 34 lbs and the weight limit RF is 40 lbs. the height limit is pretty high so even though he's 90% in height, he will outgrow it in weight first.

I have only used the Nextfit but I like it. The install is really easy and it didn't take up much space from to back, even rear facing. RF limits are high. But I have nothing to compare it to!

@MrsKoala: man! I'm not sure how I missed that the RF limit was 40lbs, I guess I was only looking at the forward facing. DS is 8 months and 25 right now, at the rate he's going he'll be 40 by the time he's a year and a half. The next fit may not be for me after all

Does anybody mind giving me the weight and age of your lo's? My nephew who's 3 is only 30lbs but my DS who is 8 months is 25, so I'm wondering how old will he likely be at 45lbs? -

We also like the nextfit. My LO is 2 - 37 inches (90%) and 30 pounds. Their growth slows way down after 1, so your LO could stay between 25-35 for a long time! My guy has thinned out as he's gotten more active.

Love the NextFit. It's consumer reports top rated convertible seat. It's a BREEZE to get a proper install which to me is the most important factor in a car seat.
@Jackiedavis87: you'll be surprised how might weight gain slows down when your son starts walking.

My son is 2 and is like 95th percentile for height. He is 28-ish pounds on any given day? He was about 20 when he turned 1 so the growth slowed a lot.

I agree that growth slows way down. My 3 year old girl has always been roughly 50th percentile for height and weight and was 34 lbs at her 3 year appt. we turned her FF when baby sister was born but she had plenty of time before hitting the limits on the seat.

I bought two NextFits when they first came out and I wanted to love them but I don't. I wouldn't buy them again - although we are using them for LO2. Mine are hard to adjust in the shoulder straps and very hard to clean because they aren't the zip version. I don't know if they've made improvements.
I had a lot of trouble with the high sides of the seat RFing in my sedan. By the time I was 6 months pregnant I couldn't get LO1 in and out of her seat RFing and had to turn her FF. It negated the long RFing advantage. The high sides are good for safety but that doesn't do any good if I can't get the kid in the seat. Now that we have a van and I don't have a pregnant belly it's much easier with LO2. But it's still lifting 28lbs high and awkwardly. We still have the seat in one sedan and I bonk LO's head on the ceiling just about every time I put him in the seat. Each time I do it I cringe wondering if the theoretical safety of the higher sides is worth the cumulative bonk damage. Check your clearance from seat to roof when you install to make sure you have plenty of room.

We have the britax boulevard click tight and I really really like it

We narrowed it down to the Nextfit and the Britax Marathon Clicktight. We ended up with the Britax because it looked more comfortable and less hot. It's so easy to install. We love it. DD seems to love it too.

I'd look at the extend2fit (Graco) as well. It has a RF limit of 50 lbs. I hAve it and like it a lot. Price was also a factor for me though, since we need 2.

Another vote to not worry about that 40lbs limit. My son is above the 97%ile and just hit 40 lbs at 3 and a half. And he's roughly the size of a small kindergartene! The weight gain reeeeaaally slows after two.

No help on the carseat as we have different models in Europe but my kiddo is of a similar constitution as your's and he would have hit the 40lbs with clothes easily at 2 years. So if you want to RF longer (we still do at nearly 3.5) I'd look for a higher weight/height limit.

@Corduroy: thank you for this review! Sometimes I bonk DS just getting him in and out of the keyfit, I thought it was just a car seat thing, but maybe it's a Chicco thing.

@Jackiedavis87: I recently upgraded my convertible to a clek because my 99.9 percentile kiddo is getting close to 35 lbs and he's not even two. He's slowed down a lot this year of course, but he's also super tall so I figured a little more room would only help!

@corduroy @jackiedavis87 the high sides arethe main reason we decided against the Nextfit (we used the Keyfit infant seat). I thought it would be impossible to get a RF toddler into that seat over the sides in my small car. Also I live in FL and it seemed very hot RF.
We ended up getting the Graco 4ever. DS is 12 months and we put him in it about 9 months. So far we love it.

I looove my nextfit. We also have a maxi cosi pria 70 in DH's car and I hate it. We both prefer the nextfit. I already have one for DS2 even though he's still in his keyfit.
