TTC After Loss Part II

@bhbee: aw, man, I ovulated on Thanksgiving and then again on Christmas last year, and there was some seriously awkward BD, where we just got under a pile of covers in the event that would make it slightly less awkward if someone just walked in I really hope it does the trick for you!

Anyone know if light periods can have anything to do with having trouble TTC? Before my son, they were a lot heavier and now they are pretty light and sometimes clotty (sorry for tmi.) I'm just wondering if I have a lining issue.

    grapefruit / 4466 posts

@Coral: Not sure, as mine are on the heavier/longer side, but my understanding is that they have to be really light and short to indicate a lining issue. Maybe make a separate thread so people with more experience can chime in?

Well my IUD is in the right place but they are recommending (and I agree with them) that I take it out. I'm bleeding through super tampons every couple of hours and it's ridiculous.
I have an appointment to remove it tomorrow and am now thinking about other BC options. Has anyone had experience with anything they didn't hate?

@periwinklebee: Thanks. I guess I need to stop spinning my wheels trying to figure out what's going on and just wait for testing in October (And hopefully I won't need it!)

  6. Coral

    clementine / 874 posts

@mrskansas: Do they have any clue why you are bleeding so much? Especially since you had one before (right?). I'm no good with bc options. I've only ever used the pills, PNP, and condoms.

  7. mrskansas

    nectarine / 2813 posts

@Coral: No, they have no idea why it's affecting me like this. I've had the Paragard twice before and never even spotted so I'm stumped too.
My OB is going to take it out so I plan on asking her what she recommends as far as BC. I think we will probably end up doing PNP though.

@mrskansas: I'm sorry about the IUD - that sucks.

The only thing I've ever used are the pill (whichever generic my insurance happened to cover) and condoms+charting. I didn't mind the pill that much. But in a context where I wouldn't mind an oops, I might just go with the latter (in part though b/c my cycles are pretty regular, so it was pretty clear from loose charting when condoms were and weren't needed).

@Coral: I agree - there are so many things we can worry are wrong, but better to give yourself a few more months and if things still haven't worked, let a doctor definitively rule some of it out...

@mrskansas: before we got married I used bcp and nuvaring, but always wondered if the latter gave me fertility issues. And the bcp make me feel icky. So we've been on the condoms plan for a long time and don't mind it (and also wouldn't mind an oops but considering my history I seriously doubt those stars will ever align). I think pnp is pretty risky if you want the mental clarity of knowing you prevented.

  10. mrskansas

    nectarine / 2813 posts

@bhbee: Yeah I agree with PNP not being good for my mental state.
I've been doing some more research and I think I will try the mini-pill. I like that it's just a low dose of progesterone so hopefully I'll feel relatively normal on it.

  11. periwinklebee

    grapefruit / 4466 posts

@mrskansas: I've heard good things about the mini pill, but haven't tried it personally. I hope that it works well for you!

IUD is out! All of the pains and cramping I've had since it was inserted seemed to magically disappear when they took it out so that's a relief. Now hopefully the bleeding stops soon so I can start tracking my cycles again.
We're just going to track/use condoms for a while.

  13. bhbee

    cantaloupe / 6086 posts

@mrskansas: so glad it's getting better!

  14. mrskansas

    nectarine / 2813 posts

    @bhbee: Me too!

Of course my husband asked if this means we are going to keep trying...

  15. periwinklebee

    grapefruit / 4466 posts

@mrskansas: I'm so glad the pain is gone... I used to want to try an IUD, and I know it works well for some people, but after all the horror stories I've heard on here, it makes me hesitant...

Tracking/condoms seems like a good approach to avoid unwanted side effects. If you're husband continues on that track, perhaps suggest to him that the male birth control pill could be another alternative.

  16. mrskansas

    nectarine / 2813 posts

@periwinklebee: I so wish there was a male BC pill!

To be honest I'm not a fan of the condom idea.. we haven't used one since the first time we had sex (almost 7 years ago!) so it's going to be a bit of a learning curve!

  17. periwinklebee

    grapefruit / 4466 posts

@mrskansas: yeah, it was so ridiculous when they stopped the clinical trial when it had side effects totally in line with what's typical of the female birth control pill. Then again, I'm a control freak, so even if there was a male bcp I would probably want to be the one to take care of it.

We had a similar situation after I came off the pill but we wanted to prevent awhile longer, and condoms + charting ended up working pretty well.

@knittylady: how are you doing? Just wanted to check in!

  19. mrskansas

    nectarine / 2813 posts

I have no idea how to track my cycle right now. I don't know if any of my bleeding was from a period or if it all was from the IUD.
I'm either on CD 10 or 43. I wish I could peek in there and see what it looks like so I'd know what was going on!

  20. bhbee

    cantaloupe / 6086 posts

@mrskansas: sorry it's so confusing! If I get an iud I have no idea what to expect in terms of the monthly cycle, was yours normal on it before this last time?

In ttc land I've finally reached a cycle where I don't want to poas. I no longer feel that sense of desperation - I think because I've given up the idea I'd get pregnant again quickly. i've been feeling good and no desire to mess with that - either with a bfn bringing sadness, or a bfp bringing anxiety. Assuming the former though which at least will be brief. I'm hoping to hold out until I can get a pretty good answer and not drag out the is it or isn't it.

How is everyone else doing? Quiet here lately!

  21. mrskansas

    nectarine / 2813 posts

@bhbee: I honestly have no idea what my cycle was like last time with an IUD, but I don't think it would have changed it much since it was non-hormonal. Who knows!

I'm glad you have been feeling good! How many days until AF is due?

  22. bhbee

    cantaloupe / 6086 posts

@mrskansas: today is 9dpo but I never see af until 16-17dpo so basically forever I usually spot by 12dpo if not before so I'm thinking I'll test then (thurs) since I also need to know whether to drink at some outings this weekend. But really not hopeful, and ok with that.

  23. mrskansas

    nectarine / 2813 posts

@bhbee: I admire your willpower! I totally understand waiting to test though.

Once I'm not so focused on weight loss I'm going to be having a few drinks and I can't wait!

  24. bhbee

    cantaloupe / 6086 posts

@mrskansas: do you have a goal you're working toward? Your last progress pic I saw looked great! One reason I've been happy lately is really cleaning up my eating. I really want to feel better about how I look and if I see a bfn I'm thinking I'll join my local jazzercise too

  25. mrskansas

    nectarine / 2813 posts

@bhbee: My goal is to fit back into my skinniest jeans that I own. I don't really have a weight goal in mind but as long as I can wear all of my clothes, I'll be happy. I'm probably around 10/15 pounds away from that.
I definitely feel better after cleaning up my eating, too. It's amazing how much food can do for your mental health!

Jazzercise has always looked like so much fun! I've been walking a lot but really need to step up my exercise!

@mrskansas: I used to love Zumba where we lived before and it sounds similar. The studio close to me has an early class with free childcare which hopefully will get me there!

@bhbee: Thinking of you this week. I'm really glad you're feeling good. I feel like after seven or eight months of TTC I reached a similar place, not expecting it to happen (or expecting a bfp to lead to a take home baby) but being pretty at peace with that, which was not at all where I started out. And of course, that was the point where I got pregnant I hope you'll be KU soon and won't need the zen for TTC

@mrskansas: Ugh, that sounds so annoying. I've never had an IUD so not sure how to count it, but I hope AF will come so you know where you're at soon. That's awesome about the weight loss!

Oh and I started taking Myo-Inositol which is usually recommended for women with PCOS, but it's supposed to help ovarian function. I figured it can't hurt since my cycles are so irregular.
Ever since I started taking it, I have had so much more energy and just feel better. Not sure if it's actually working or just a placebo effect, but I'm happy about it!

@mrskansas: just did a quick google search on that and I am going to order some!

I'm out this cycle (serious spotting) but feeling pretty ok about it. A little sad but I think I've pretty much just closed myself off from it by now. However I am super excited to get my myo inisotol tomorrow! Giving me a reason to hope for the next cycle. Also because maybe for once we'll have not horrible timing.

  33. mrskansas

    nectarine / 2813 posts

@bhbee: I'm sorry about this cycle

I hope the myo inisotol works well for you!

@bhbee: Boo, boo, boo, stupid AF. I was really hoping that things would work out for you this month

I hope the myo inisotol works, and I think good timing will definitely help

Well now I'm confused. I took a wondfo this morning just for kicks and threw it in a drawer and checked a while ago to see a faint line. I think 50/50 evap (I didn't check in time to know) or non-viable pregnancy. Spotting and pregnancy have never gone well together for me so I'm not even thinking that. I suppose on the one hand a chemical is sort of positive since it would mean we got that far again, and I know that's part of my fertility for whatever reason, but I will spend way too much time thinking about this now vs just seeing a clear bfn.

@bhbee: How many DPO are you? Can you post a pic?

  37. periwinklebee

    grapefruit / 4466 posts

@bhbee: I'm so sorry for the limbo Sending loads of virtual TTC zen until you are able to test again. Bodies are incredibly weird, and I am soooo, soooo hoping that despite the spotting that this is your rainbow baby

  38. bhbee

    cantaloupe / 6086 posts

@mrskansas: @periwinklebee: i think I'm 10-11dpo though this is a weird cycle for me so not exactly sure. That's pretty late for a super faint line for me and with the spotting it seems like trouble. I'm thankfully out most of the day so can't be staring at it. I'll probably just try to take a frer for a better look. Honestly though my biggest fear is a pregnancy that isn't viable but doesn't end quickly. A quick chemical or bfn i can deal with just fine.

  39. periwinklebee

    grapefruit / 4466 posts

@bhbee: at 11dpo, I've always only gotten a super faint squinter on a wondfo. I know it's hard to internalize when it's not been your experience, but the odds are definitely in your favor that you won't have another later first tri loss. Once you hit 7 weeks and see a hb, I think the odds of loss fall to around 3%, not zero but also not that likely that it would happen twice in a row, especially since you know your last loss was a random fluke. I am crossing every finger and toe that it's a real line and that it will get darker. Thinking of you

  40. bhbee

    cantaloupe / 6086 posts

@periwinklebee: I know you're right about the later loss. I don't believe it's a viable line yet, but I do believe it's going to be ok no matter what!

ETA seriously I have no idea where my zen is coming from but thank goodness for it!!
